Shin Eva Spoilers.

Just out of curiosity, I'm wondering how many of you are going to read spoilers when the film comes out in Japan, and how many of you are going in for the (probable) long haul to see this film.

I'm personally leaning more on waiting, simply for the fact that, when Q first came out, there was a whole bunch of misinformation due to mistranslations and the such that it was hard to tell what's going on. Still, I hope the release of this film isn't anything like Q was for places outside of Japan.

Anyway, I'm curious to know what everyone else will be doing.

Spoilers generally don't ruin things for me so I'll be reading spoilers and watching shitty camrips.

I recall reading spoilers for Q, and still being at a loss for words when the film was over, and downright shocked when Kaworu died

Too right man. So much of Eva is in the visuals and sounds.

Haha, yea that's true. Now that I think about it, even after reading the spoilers for Q, actually watching the film was still a different experience for me. Still, all those mistranslations and misunderstandings when the film first came out was still annoying too me lol.

A better idea would be to stay clear of this subforum the moment the password protection comes down, because a leak would cause it to come into effect prematurely.

I posted that under the assumption of no leak happening as I personally don't believe they will happen.

Personally, I don't think a leak is highly likely either. But it's not zero, and to quote Simon from Gurren Lagann "As long as it's not zero, it may as well be a hundred percent!" If a leak does happen, do you want to be caught off guard? I don't think so.

The way I see it, the simplest course would be to prepare for a leak in the eventuality that it does happen and adjust one's behavior accordingly.

Give the fact it’s been over 8 years of waiting and the slim chance of dying of covid right now I’ll be viewing the spoilers and reading up on the reviews.

Just in case I don’t live long enough to see it for myself as it will still take a good few months to view it in England, via various incorrect means

I'm still deciding whether I want to spoil myself right away or wait until further developments on how the film will be available outside Japan. If there's a theatrical release announced in my country (slim chance) or the film being available through alternative means (streaming or home video) relatively fast like 3.0, I'd probably keep myself unspoiled.

But I will listen to the soundtrack when it arrives in February because that's like the best way to keep myself hyped for the film while not outright spoiling myself of its story content, since I know the track names aren't like Star Wars where they could easily spoil the film's plot points or key scenes. :D

When 3.0 came around I spoiled myself with little concern. I hadn't even seen the rebuild movies at that point.
And then so much time passed that when I actually sat and watched the movie I barely remembered any of the spoilers.

I was thinking of doing the same thing, but this being the last movie, I doubt I'll just casually forget stuff like last time. Who knows, but I'm not going to avoid the internet because of a single movie, Eva or not.

Just a heads up, but Khara's recent tweet said they can't wait for everyone to see Shin Eva on Jan 23rd. Maybe it's me being too optimistic, but I hope that points to some kind of world wide release.

If GKids/Funimation/Eleven Arts/Fathom Events/whoever were going a simultaneous release Shin Eva with Japan, we'd probably have heard about it by now. They're not just gonna do that unannounced. They would want to advertise for it thread of time to better ensure that they would sell enough tickets to make the expense worth their while.

If it was suddenly announced that 3.0+1.0 was going to get a global release in February or March I might try to be spoiler averse BUT since it could be anywhere from two to eight or nine months after January 23 before I can see a pristine viewing of the film I’m not going to be.

In the end for me it’s not the plot but the execution that matters in storytelling.

Yeah, looking at the tweet and remembering that the Japanese language is pretty contextual indicates they were only talking about a Japanese release it seemed. Well, I at least hope the release won't be as long as Q was.

I’m certain everyone who wants to LEGALLY see a pristine viewing of the film will get their chance in 2021. With Toho and Toei involved I don’t see any major shenanigans happening like with 3.0.

If it wasn’t for the pandemic I would’ve put money down on an April 2021 theatrical run in Europe and USA at least. Maybe not a full fun but at least a few select showings.

With the pandemic it’s really just a question now of HOW we see it.

Once Khara handles their domestic release I figure we’ll start hearing news of international distribution.

A little disappointed that there have been no leaks from the early premieres. Looks like Khara has done a good job at keeping those people quiet.

The people who attended the preview screenings were Shin Eva's cast and crews, khara internal staff, and close associates (e.g. Yoko Takahashi, people from ATAC), they're definitely under NDA and wouldn't risk their careers just by spoiling a film that will come out soon.

I'm in two minds about spoiling myself at the moment. I had no problem with 3.0 spoilers, and they had little bearing on how much I enjoyed it when I finally got around to seeing it in July 2013. On the other hand, I remember feeling so deflated (maybe even a tad salty) getting...
SPOILER: Show
Han Solo's death

...in The Force Awakens spoiled for me. On top of that, this is supposedly the finale of Eva, so there's no chance of a do-over if, say, Asuka suffers another horrendous death and doesn't re-emerge from an ocean of Fanta. Oh, and then there's the whole ordeal of probably having to stay overnight in Dublin to catch a 9pm screening at the most hipster-y of hipster-y arthouse cinemas, where Peroni is the cheapest thing on tap.

I think the only spoiler I'll be 100% glad to see is if Pixiv gets flooded with AsuMari art or Gendo becoming the centrepiece of the Japanese version of the "Hitler rants in Der Untergang" meme.
