that seems like a super arrogant thing to say before the movie is actually out tho.

we should at least admit the possibility that it will suck or not make sense (even if the probability is small), anything else is basically worshipping a holy cow, and if its good and you go in with that sort of attitude, you're not going to appreciate the actual movie but some idea of what you think it stands for...

Also, people are allowed to have opinions

attitudes like this is the reason ppl hate reading classics in school. Most are good books (except Brecht and Schiller, those certifiably suck, even I get why we were made to study them), but of course people will hate it if it's presented to them as "better than the trash you're interested in"

that's also like you get ppl that idea of "being deep" but they just wear it like a fashionable shirt

"Being pissed off" is IMO an exaggerated reaction to a film though and there probably will be people like that. There will be insults thrown at Anno and co.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

@Kendrix

No need to feel like opinions and critiques don't matter.

I would be weak if I would worry that people get polarized and divisive around Eva again.

I don't need to defend 3.0 and 3.0+1.0 too, because I can be certain what I get from this.

I never have big hype and expectations and I know I don't fail as many who got triggered from how NGE ended with 25,26 and EoE and how 3.0 is, same for 3.0+1.0 with no exception.

To share my experience with Eva here is for the sake to express that I can value things as how they are, even if something doesn't turn out the way it's wanted.

Everyone gets what's deserved and I only want to be finished with Eva. Other new Eva from others after Anno, I'll still watch it and still like it.

Are we two fine so you don't feel like I just brag around?

A new trailer, a new poster, movie screening here and there, spoiler warnings from Khara, 3.333 recut/re-edit coming - what an eva-themed-Christmas!

Also great to hear they're working on a timely release of the film in the West. Hoping by March/April.

When will we hear some tidbits of the new tracks from Shin Eva? Did that ever happen?
With the exception of the 2 revealed tracks.

Bye bye all of Evangelion and Evageeks.

I never understood why people hate the Rebuild because it's different and love the Series, can we just love it all without creating dilemmas and unnecessary discussions?

There's a detail in this poster that bothers me: why is there such a large space on the right?
Looks like this pic has a continuation. :chinscratch:

∆ Could be a design choice. Things that are off center attract the eye.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."

as kuribo said, it could be a deliberate design choice, OR it'r really leaving space for more cast members.

Which is kind of sad, his way of drawing is one of a kind and mega appealing to me. No one draws the characters quite like he does. I love his poster for 3.0.

If it isn't a huge red herring, everything points towards a showdown between (some form of) Kaworu and Shinji in Thrice upon a Time, and considering how Kaworu and Shinji are positioned, Qs poster might have been hinting to that all those years back. First of all, they do not face each other, likewise, in the Trailer their respective cuts has them look in opposite directions. In cinematic language that's generally reserved for adversaries. Additionally, notice how Shinji looks towards the stars in Q, fitting since he basically refuses to accept reality, even when confronted with it.Also, Kaworu gazes directly at the viewer - something he also does in the movie in the cut I'm using for my avatar, pointing to how his mere existence is meta.

There was a serious drama involving Sadamoto that honestly also left me feeling disgusted at the man. It's sad, either Sadamoto bowed out of the production or Anno made the call to kick him out of considerations for his crews, since some of them are Koreans.

Posting answer to Ghostly Ocam here since it might fit more here (and to avoid double post):

Anyway, this new trailer makes me nostalgic to 1.0 and 2.0 days because we're finally getting a 90-seconds action-packed pre-release trailer with an Utada song after 3.0 skipped that for a good reason (although there's a few post-release). If we follow the old pattern, there should be one more trailer with Sagisu's score since 1.0 had one with Angel of Doom and 2.0 with Final Decision.

Just wanted to continue that thought.
This being tradition makes me think it could happen too. And so does the Sagisu thing. We've had no new Sagisu song trailer, and only Shin music we've heard was (unfinished?) music from Avant1.
Also there's a good chunk of time till the film.

What makes me think it might not happen is that in those past cases we didn't have these short teasers (which show quite a bit). Mayby they wouldn't want to show anymore (OTOH after several trailers I still don't know shit about plot, and certain potential "surprises" being revealed, like Shinji piloting (apparently?) don't bother me at all if Anno wants me to see them before the film.
Then the fact that there is no major Toho release before Shin (AFAIK).Unless you count Eva 3.333. You could.

In any case, I don't need a new trailer, but it would be enjoyed greatly.

I'm thinking we might get a new preview at the end of 3.333, and wonder if we'll see Avant2.

While I agree that Sadamoto’s comments were unbecoming of his professional career in an internationally public market (and I don’t quite care for his comment either), it is worth pointing out that Sadamoto has been less and less involved with each new Evangelion film. He was probably headed out anyway, maybe even due to lack of interest? Going his own direction? Who knows?

It’s also worth noting that Anno & Co. were not afraid to speak out against other serious matters involving past related entities, specifically the sexual allegations against the Gainax Chief back about a year ago, even going so far as to make a public tell-all distancing themselves from the scam company. All that to say, while Japan does tend to like to politely drop things or quietly sweep them under the rug, Khara isn’t above publicly speaking out if they feel the need to change something. The fact they didn’t make a statement about Sadamoto means we can’t be sure what they’re decision they may or may not have made about him, but coupled with the slow, declining involvement of Sadamoto since 2007 (he’s been taking on roles with less and less responsibility since the release of Eva 1.0 anyway), it also makes me wonder how closely they’ve been working together for the past few years prior to the unfortunate tweets. It may have nothing to do with Sadamoto’s tweets, and more with the fact that Sadamoto doesn’t seem to want to be as involved with Eva as he used to be.

His tweets still sucked, though, and definitely cripple the reputation of an otherwise amazing artist. I still love seeing his artwork and recognizing the faces he casts as different characters throughout the films he’s worked on, but those tweets were at best terribly tone deaf.

Wouldnt Toji, Hikari and Kensuke be in their late-20s?

I mean, I guess. But that isn’t post 2.22 Asuka in the poster either, so maybe the characters in the poster aren’t supposed to reflect their age in Shin Evangelion.

The irritating thing is that Asuka is pre timeskip, but Kaworu and Mari definitely have their post timeskip looks (Haircut/lenght, glasses...)

I guess with Asuka they defaulted back to the "more iconic" classic series look?

The pattern is that they're all wearing school uniforms it seems.

Same, I still enjoyed his recent works like in Great Pretender, that anime has some of the most inspirings character designs I've seen in years and Sadamoto being the designer certainly played a big part. But being a lurker in many parts of the fandom and seeing several Korean fans feeling more insecure for voicing their love towards the series out of fear of being judged kind of hurts, especially with how big Sadamoto's contributions were towards the franchise. But oh well, him not being involved in Shin or perhaps Evangelion as a whole from now on could help making them feel better.
