I'm sure that statue is just a stand alone thing like the Godzilla merged with Evangelion statue.

I had profound hopes for a miracle of GVK being better received than KOM and making just enough money to allow them to continue the series but if GVK goes to streaming it's 100% done.

After that best we can hope for is comics set in the same universe or MAYBE a animated series. (Someone please give Fil Barlow work, his 98 follow up animated series was so damn good, a Legendary G cartoon following members of monarch done in the same style would be a true gift)

Another possibility is more stand alone Kong movies set between Skull Island and GVK or follow post Skull Island Larson & Hiddleston working as agents of Monarch investigating original monsters not owned by Toho.

Watched these for the first time in a good number of years.
Watched the Sandy Frank dubs which are considered the worst versions apparently but they are the versions I am used to.

Gamera - The Invincible (1965)
- Worse then I remember and even when I was young I remember it being lesser than it's immediate sequel Gamera vs Barugon which I saw first.
- Everything with the kid outside of the lighthouse rescue is absolutely unbearable. He is moodily obsessed with Gamera to the point of putting himself and others in direct obvious danger and fights back when is being rescued.
- Tonally contradictory as fuck. We have absurd number of scenes of the kid ranting about Gamera being a good guy and the adults more or less going along with him contrasted with Gamera blasting fire directly into a club full of teenagers.
- Dialogue and voice work is largely very poor, only the main scientist sounds acceptable.
- Gamera suit is good, facially more grotesque than he would be in any of the showa sequels.
- Wish they had done more with the ominous Cold War elements that are present in the opening scene in the artic.
- Stuff with the military attacking Gamera at the power plant & his main attack on Toyko are all nothing special but good enough.
- The version I saw there isn't enough contrast on the black & white so the film seems murky and overly grey at times.
- Score is good but again is very conflicting with the kid's storyline. The score sounds tragic and foreboding.
- Weak overall. I can see where a damn good film could have been made here but they squandered it.
SPOILER: Show
Image

Gamera vs Gyaos (1967)
- The kid here while younger & still has a annoyingly girly voice is MUCH more natural in behavior / personality & isn't crow barred into everything quite as much.
- Gamera suit is acceptable but here is where they started softening his look as he has gone full superhero in this film compared to being a 99% villain in the first film and a tolerable dangerous weapon against other monsters in vs Barugon.
- Gyaos's suit is kinda stiff but fairly iconic looking depending on the angle.
- Dialogue is overall much less incoherent and dumb than the first film.
- Score is good.
- Fast paced and doesn't have as much extended build up that vs Barugon had.
- Decent overall.
SPOILER: Show
Image

Gamera vs Barugon (1966) which came out between these 2 remains firmly better than both IMO. It's the only showa Gamera film without kids and it's tonally consistently serious.

Blink and you'll miss it clip of Godzilla vs Kong.

Full stop, I hate the lack of marketing around this movie. Nothing has ever went well for this film throughout production, so I'm kinda nervous about what the finished film will actually look like.

Legendary will possibly challenge Warner Brothers on the decision to release Godzilla vs Kong (and Dune) on HBO Max.

Understandably, this is the weirdest timeline for movies.

Well I saw Gorgo from 1961.

Like I know this is one of the lesser known big monsters movies like the giant behemoth and Reptilicus, but it's the better of the three in my view.

SPOILER: Show
I think the reason this really didn't land in its time frame is it shows the utter disgusting greed of humanity, there is no heroic male hero who is likeable no romantic cheap subplot its about flawed human beings doing shitty things. Also the monster destruction its turned up to eleven and shows hundreds of death tons of landmarks being destroyed in London and the message being all this shit could have been avoided if you'd just give the parent monster its child back no one had die and this was all caused by utter greed.

My only mild nitpick is I wish the captain had died as he's so scummy, but I think this was part of the message that sometimes even the villains get away and the child character in this is the only one with any real sense, and he keeps trying to tell the drunken greedy adults so but is constantly dismissed, he is the hero of the piece.

silvermoonlight: Seconding Gorgo being solid. I also really like The Giant Behemoth. Reptilicus however is weak.

I suggest checking out Gappa The Triphibian Monster / Monster from the Prehistoric planet, it's basically Japan remaking Gorgo and it has a marginally more likable main cast as the choice to return the baby or not is out of their hands if I recall correctly (may be wrong). Gorgo is superior but Gappa is firmly decent.

Thank you I'll check that out ^_^

The Giant Behemoth I do really like the effects and I would recommend it to anyone who really likes stop motion and Ray Harryhausen, as that to me is where it really shines.

Everytime I see Unit 2 or Unit 1 Kiryu I become happier, the Eva's colors and elegant design do fit pretty well Mechagodzilla, it's also something of like a father and son relationship as EVA greatly influenced both Kiryu movies.
*petrifies and is left floating adrift in space, where it will outlast Evangelion: Thrice Upon a Time 3.0+1.0, as an eternal testament that the human race existed*

Bye bye all of Evangelion and Evageeks.
When you feel sad remember that it's always epic Spinosaurus aegyptiacus time, you were born in the same planet as S. aegyptiacus, how cool is it?
I never understood why people hate the Rebuild because it's different and love the Series, can we just love it all without creating dilemmas and unnecessary discussions?

Be careful of 3.0+1.0 spoilers

This is truly the end of this account, forever.

If Godzilla Vs. Kong doesn't do exactly this then the movie has already failed IMO.

A masterpiece, that's what that is. Honestly, at this point making this canon is the only possible way for them to get the viewers hyped, rather than anything they're coming up with IMO.

Hmmm. So Godzilla is being provoked somehow . . . seems legit. I predict some serious fights followed by a teamup vs. a mutual threat in the end. There's no way they can have a true "winner" in this matchup without royally pissing people off.

My thoughts...
- CGI looks tangibly better & on par with Skull Island.
- Lighting seems much better even during the night time city battle.
- Them using the 2001 score again to homage the iconic 2014 trailers was nice.
- I was under the impression Rebecca Hall was the villain of the film, does not appear to be so. Glad she is front & center of the human characters in the trailer, fan of her.

If you freeze frame and go frame-by-frame on the destruction at 4 seconds in, that looks more like Mechagodzilla. It's all metallic and shiny, and has red lights attached to it. Also, those flying aircrafts at 1:24 look more like spaceships than the fighter jets and helicopters in the rest of the trailer.

I think it might be mecha king ghidorah but if they did Mechagodzilla that would interest as the villain from KOTM could be doing a test run or its from another side as they did find a dead godzilla's bones in the Godzilla 2014. ^_^

Or its aliens since they said king ghidorah was an alien.

Mechagodzilla with King Ghidorah's one surviving head stapled to its shoulder and screaming bloody murder.

There's been pictures of toys of Legendary's version of Mecahgodzilla that floated around last year, but nothing has seemed to come of those just yet. And they did hint at Mecha King Ghidorah at the end of KotM, so who knows what'll happen here.
