Since opinions are clearly divided, how about implementing an option for users to turn it on and off? I'm not sure how feasible doing so would be in actual practice, my experience with phpbb is rather limited, but I'd be surprised if it were completely impossible

Patience, young padawan. So far it's just two people who've explicitly disliked it against several others who like it or have a "wait and see" approach, and there's no telling if those who currently dislike it will warm up to it eventually.

I like the new organization/order of the subforums as well as the new icons, and I agree that the rebuild icon should be something more rebuild-specific like Mari or awakened shogouki.

Yeah, but not everyone is in as deep as we are. Especially looking at a tiny Icon, it might just register as "Rei", whereas Mari is unmistakably NTE.
