Until You Come to Me feels like it started from discarded 3.0 storyboards, and then grew also having bits that reflected on the Evangelion franchise as a whole. It's fun stuff, but I don't know how canon it is. I'm holding it at arms length Until Shin Eva Comes to Me.

Yes I know, but in the Japanese text there is this question "what is Until You Come To Me?" which I shortened to "what is UYCTM?"

It's one of the films in the collection of 34-odd shorts directed by people in Khara to show the variety of their skills and styles. It was curated by Anno under the title of Japan Animator Expo.

Guys I know what UYCTM is, I have seen it several times, I simply transcribed the question that is in the Japanese text. :sweatdrop:

I've always tried to wrap my head around Eva 3.0 having a D Part and is certainly doesn't make sense in regards to giving the third film a traditional narrative structure.
3.0 leading to the big traumatic climax & Kaworu's death to then follow that up with a (presumably) quieter long series of scenes of the three pilots walking through the wastelands would certainly make for a drastic shift from a traditional narrative structure.

I love 3.0 - my favorite Rebuild so far - but that would have made drastically changed up the whole feeling of the film. Really curious what that experience would have been.

Truly hope there's a big all revealing expose or book Khara puts out when the Rebuilds are over.

That would be the Complete Records Collection.

Me thinks it could have worked wonderfully if the D part would have been some dream-like surrealist-impressionist-metamodern-expressinist-whatever sequence mixing structural elements of the Third Impact sequence of EoE but but contemplative like Shinji wandering on his own from Episode 4....

I can't imagine Q was supposed to have some long fourth act. Not only would this violate its narrative structure in general as Gendo'sPapa says, it would also seem to violate Jo-Ha-Kyu structure to which Rebuild adhered to, with the final part being both swift and exciting and quietly fading away. Some 20-30 minutes long act following Shinji et al doesn't fit my impression of Jo-Ha-Kyu.

Of course question rises at which point such storyboards existed. It could be from an earlier part in development process when Q and Final were supposed to be two halves of the same coin, so to speak - and Q wasn't shaped like it was at the time of the release anyhow.

Phew! Yes indeed. I don't need to use time on this then.

I was gonna post something about the connection between the missing D-Part and UYCTM, but it kinda got long and I decided I should just make it it's own thread.

In theory that'll be the 3.0 CRC.
The storyboard, IIRC, had no info regarding this.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

They thought that the timer above the 41 minutes stuff was actually the running time of the movie.
That's just dumb.
From the (little) informations we got, the running time was around 2 hours or so, maybe a little bit more, but that's all.

Also they say that the release date is practcally confirmed for 2021, but that also is not true.

If it's not than Khara needs to hurry up and cut the "Coming very soon" stuff, but we all need to be realistic as well.

They probably thought it was 6 hours long because of this timestamp.

Until Khara officialy declares it, 2021 is just the best hypothesis, sadly.
Also, new work is put on the movie, so I don't expect it to be released in the first half of the year.

I wouldn't even mind a 2022 release date. I just want it to release after Covid has been dealt with.

Say what you will about press shitposting, but they might have played a role in Khara coming out to clarify the mystery number in a string of tweets:

SPOILER: Show

Basically it's film roll time stamps and they've got nothing to do with how long anything actually is.

I figured it was something technical like that. At first I thought it was related to the "Part 1," "Part 2," "Part 3," "Part 4," division in the narrative structure, but I didn't think of it in terms of film roll division since (as Khara pointed out) they really don't edit to film anymore. That still seems like a handy way to divide work into manageable sections, though. I should adopt that for my workflows.

I love how all the comments to the tweet are "I wish the movie was 6 hours long".
