Gundam Seed episode 6 gave me my first official reason to hate Flay seeing how she can't shut up when they tell her not to reveal to the hateful Eurasia crew that Kira is a Coordinator. Bonehead move.

Nicol impressed with his Gundam's invisible mode taking advantage of the facility's overrated defense system. He's also calmer than hotheaded Yzak and arrogant Dearka.

Yeah prepare for a lot more of hating Flay's guts. If not for Flaga, Lacus and two characters you haven't met yet, I probably wouldn't have made it through the first half of the show. On that note, look forward to the next few episodes, one of them will be the spotlight of these and give you a much-needed break from Flay

I used to not be a fan of Dearka and Yzak either at first, but they'll grow on you over time

Meanwhile I am slogging through Age; after Age-1 got bearable on the last third, now it's on to Age-2. Heard the least amount of negative things about that arc, so here's hoping

Thanks for the heads up.

I saw a Youtube video in which it details 4 reasons why the Titans lost and because i never got to Jamitov's intro in Zeta, i thought the old man in 0083 whose face is never seen when the Albion crew are made members of Titans at the end was merely the new captain since it was said Synapse was executed after Stardust.

The first episode of Build Divers Re:Rise Season 2 dropped just now; while it was "only" in part a backstory and in part a recap, it was still hype as fuck. Can't wait for the next one to come out.

I watched episodes 1-9 of Reconguista in G yesterday. There's a lot of Overman King Gainer in this Gundam series (especially the ending). Also, Eureka 7 character design in a Gundam series is weird. In general I was a bit bothered by the storytelling that keeps introducing new information without really bothering to introduce it - so the viewer ends up feeling lost.

Reconquista in G is like Turn A Gundam squared. It's squared as aesthetic and that's good, but the storytelling is absolutely bonkers. I want Tomino to direct only scenes that require there to be a lot of chaos, 'cuz he excels in portraying that - other than that, his stuff is, frankly, pretty horribly unwatchable to me.

I get the impression that his storytelling got worse with time. When I watched the Hong Kong sub of L-Gaim, despite the sub being absolutely horrible  , the series was still quite easy to follow. The same goes for his early Gundam shows. With Reconguista in G it feels like he forgot to write in the exposition.

While I like Reconquista, I think it probably should have been 50 episodes. It feels like Tomino tried to cram everything into not nearly enough episodes. The movies he's making now are probably a way to try and correct that, although I've yet to see them.

Next 9 episodes watched. This series has some serious pacing issues...about half of those episodes did well on exposition and were decently paced, but there were three consecutive episodes that left me mightily confused with all of the factions that made alliances one way in one episode, another way in the next, reneged on alliances between the scenes, suddenly behaved like they never had an alliance in the first place, etc. Quite a mess. Also, the
SPOILER: Show
"brother/sister that were brought to earth and adopted in different families"
-plot seems recycled from Gundam Seed...

Disregarding that, I love the humorous little details that are strewn around like the G Self flying close to tree tops on earth causing leaves and other bits of tree to be ripped off and you suddenly see a nest and four eggs fly by in the background :D

I believe Tomino himself was quoted as saying something along the lines of trying to bring back the Age of the Onii-san with that decision, can't say I agree with it though as I liked it better when it was assumed they could've been a couple. Maybe the compilation movies will delete that but I doubt it.

Yeah, I've read something like that. Sounds like a very Tomino thing to say.
Also I agree with him theat the big sis archetype is way better than the little sis archetype

Last bunch of Reconguista in G episodes watched:
- More pacing and storytelling issues, although it's noticeable that all of these issues tend to occur when the current location is supposed to transition into another one. I write "is supposed to" because instead of transitioning smoothly it abruptly cuts to slightly into the future, at which point the viewer gets bombarded with new information that sorely misses exposition. It's a bit less grating than in the earlier episodes. I think this series should at least have had 13 additional episodes...
- I like the rock music that's perfectly synchronised to the action.
- The G-Self suffers from "new powers as the plot demands" quite a lot.
- The ending also suffers from being too short. The fighting just...stops...in a manner that is rather unnatural. OTOH, the last scenes just before and during the ending credits are quite funny. :D

The little sis archetype is annoying because no real-life little sister would seriously behave like that. Ever. In quite a lot of series they also have to add in borderline incest subtext that makes the older brother look like a "would molest an underage sibling"-creep...

This so much.

In other news, almost through Age now... after some 25 episodes that were fun, but really didn't amount to anything, the show has taken an absolute fucking nosedive in writing quality; I've been told that this is only going to get worse from now on.
just have to slog through that so I can finally move on to G...

Zeta Gundam episodes 1-8 watched. The series has aged well, and the animation is still top-notch 35 years on. There also are some designs that are clearly partly recycled from L-Gaim (1984), not only MS designs but especially certain space ships (right down to the colors used).

Kamille reminds me of some of my colleagues at work regarding his lack of self-reflection  and acting before thinking. Standout moments: shouting "Don't force me to shoot you!" and...immediately shooting  + various cases where he accuses others of doing things wrong just after doing them wrong himself + getting people killed due to his hair-trigger temper and then blaming others for it. Someone's got issues...

I watched Gundam Age Memory of Eden the other night. The start of the first and end of the second movie expand on and slightly change some things in the TV show, both very much for the better; everything else is a strong competitor for the title of "worst compilation movie I have ever watched". They reduced an entire 10 episode arc to less than two minutes of screentime, jumped back and forth in time and cut out most character development, only birefly showing the conclusion of each character arc and battle strategy. If you haven't watched the show, you'll have no idea what's going on in that glorified clipshow.

I watched the first two episodes of Turn A just now - I don't think any Gundam show besides IBO has ever gotten me this hyped in this short amount of time.
Looks like I'm gonna be three for three for postapocalyptic Gundam shows.

One allnighter and 23 (21? my counting skills have left me right now) episodes later, I'm still having a great time with Turn A. Not quite as amazing as the first two episodes, but still very consistently very good, and in all fairness these were some pretty damn strong first two episodes

Just finished Turn A - unfortunately, show kinda dropped the ball on the last few episodes; a lot of it felt rather rushed and directionless :/

That being said, overall I still give the show a 9/10, sits comfortably as my third favorite Gundam show right after X.

^ Yeah, I read about how in particular Loran ends up with Dianna instead of Sochie which didn't sit right with her last time we see her in the show. Tomino really cannot write good romance to save his hide!

To be fair, writing a convincing romance has never been the strong suit of Gundam, period.
X and IBO did it reasonably well, but apart from those, the franchise at large is kinda a barren wasteland in that regard.

Not to rag on Age too much, but after the first timeskip, my first reaction was "nah no way in fuck did those two have two kids together they barely even talked to each other after the first five episodes"

ReRise that's currently airing has the potential to get a romance subplot right for a change, but we'll have to wait and see on that one, not particularily counting on it.
