Thank you! 2.0 got the most extensive reworking didn't it? For 3.0 they mostly just touched up digital animation and backgrounds. I don't recall them adding any shots or anything, right?

irrc, there's only two very little scenes they added, other than that it's mostly corrections - especially the CGI of the Wunder fight was much more barebones in theaters.

What?! They added stuff? What two scenes if you don't mind my asking? I was always under the assumption they added nothing.

Oh my... I'm sorry! Scenes is the wrong word! It's two short cuts in the Wunder battle. I definitely remember one of them being a short cutaway to some display. It's rather insignificant in the scheme of things.

1.0 got a few overall changes as well. The initial 1.01 DVD release mainly just reframed everything slightly from 1.0 while still keeping the 1.85:1 aspect ratio. It also has a darker look to it than the later 1.11 Blu-ray release, and the skin tones look less washed out. (I’m wondering if maybe that’s because the 1.01 DVD was taken from a non-digital source? I can’t seem to confirm one way or the other, but it looks to me like the 1.01 DVD was taken from a film source.) Funimation released the 1.01 version on DVD before the 1.11 version was available on Blu-ray, so I find it fun to compare the two every so often since I have both.

The 1.11 Blu-ray might have touched up some animation here and there. (I remember one of the Angels didn’t have a halo in the 1.01 version. It was added in the 1.11 release.) 1.11 also reframed everything yet again with mostly wider shots in a 1.77:1 (16x9) aspect ratio (though some of the close ups are a bit tighter in 1.11), had a brighter image (this time clearly directly from the digital source,) and added or lengthened a couple scenes too. I remember the scene in 1.11 where Misato told Shinji that the things attacking Tokyo were called “Angels,” and thinking “Wait, was Shinji not told in 1.01?” Apparently he was not.

I wonder if Thrice Upon a Time’s indefinite delay means that it won’t have a 3.33 + 1.11 animation upgrade. I get the sense that many of the animation changes are made due to limited time before the theatrical release. (Missing halos in 1.0, weird continuity of Kaworu and Shinji’s belts in 3.0, etc.) I can see there maybe new and extended scenes for the Blu-ray version of Thrice Upon a Time, but, unless Toho/Toei are still strict about their completion deadlines (which, it makes sense that they would be), I don’t think there will be as many animation changes/upgrades in the already existing scenes.

Thank you. I was always under the belief they added nothing because Anno was really happy with his theatrical cut of the film. So he was very happy but felt one or two very quick beats were missing and added them later. Cool. Thanks for the info!

Since the movie was on track to hit the late June release date and is only being delayed due to circumstances outside their control I can imagine they'll use the extra months to fine tune everything so maybe there won't be a 3.33+1.11.

Also, Khara has added versions of the three Rebuilds to Youtube with Japanese subtitles burnt in. It also just hit me why they're not adding subtitles in any other languages like English, etc. That would likely be a huge breach of the contracts Khara signed with local distributors, duh. Don't know why I didn't realize it before. Companies like Funimation or whoever distributes the Eva films in Europe weren't a part of the decision to release the films legally online for free.

In 3.33, the shots of the frontal view of the Wunder and Shinji looking out of the window (both after the battle) changed around in order.
And they added Mari's singing in the first scene.

Can't khara add any content they want to their release of their movies? This isn't a home video release in any country, it's their youtube channel.
I think they just don't have the subs ready and can't use the ones that were made specifically for international releases. Otherwise we might have subs.
I think.

And I think the bluray will still be called 3.33+1.11. Otherwise it might seem like it's inferior somehow to previous releases.
I also just really want to purchase a bluray that says 3.33+1.11 on the cover, looking at and loving the insanity of that title.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

2.0 didnt really have sound effects in the theatrical release, the special feature in home video is just an alternate version with SE by the sound engineer Tiru Noguchi probably as Its called Noguchi version. Also, I wouldnt really know what to think about the third film´s lack of additions, not only it got on home video unexplainably fast, they didnt bother to make the last part of the film, so from my ignorance I would argue that maybe Anno wasnt that happy with the film considering he apparently made Ohtsuki apologize for something undisclosed(guess who isnt in the staff list this time as ekecutive producer) and even mentioned he thought of not bothering finishing the story.

Also theres an audio commentary for the first film with Kamimura from Groundworks, Nigouki from the Khara Nigouki twitter account(who worked on the production of the film), Chisai Hito(pseudonym?) who I never herd of, and Yoko Takahashi.
