By the way

As time goes by, they establish an experimental protocol, and they set up automated tests to gain more information about the physics behind the machine. The machine is upgraded to allow for more data throughput and a time range of about 24 hours. Murdoch also meets a young woman named Anne Patterson when she trips over Sir Charles's kitten while she was out shopping in Kingussie.

Kayoco Anne Patterson is a character in Shin Godzilla.

Kinda too on the nose, Anno-san.

Shit talking? Where was I shit talking anybody? What part of my post was me bashing on other fans? So because I stated that I don't like a certain idea or story concept that means I'm attacking other people's right to enjoy certain interpretations of a work? Quit projecting. You're acting like I wronged you in some way just because I wasn't quick enough to realize the true intent and meaning behind a vague and obscure movie title right off the bat like some hardcore fan would. My initial post was a direct reply to Blockio's post when I first saw it. It wasn't until after I posted it that I then read all the replies that followed Blockio's post, by which point it was too late to retract what I had said in my post without people already having seen it.

You're right. I mistook your post for another poster I was initially talking about, but then you answered and I confused everything. I need to check better next time. I apologize.
Still, you don't need to be on this forum or anywhere all the time to come up with anything. As I said, this were literally my first impressions.

Well, yeah. You're right. I'm more looking forward to a big interview in a 3.0 CRC and 3.0+1.0 CRC than the movie itself, lmao.

I wonder if this is Eva-related? It's hard to make out.

^It's part of the Ube-Shinkawa line. Ube happens to be Anno's home town too (I believe it was Reichu who pointed this out?)

Reichu wrote:I posted this and then deleted it, but I'm fickle so I guess I'll just post it again:

The speculah that BlueBasilisk and I have been working on lines up nicely with the subtitle. No real way to sufficiently explain it without getting my act together and finishing the extensive write-up, but the gist of it is that there have been two iterations of humanity on Earth already (Seele's race, and Lilin), and Final Impact will result in a much-needed fresh start -- a third try -- possibly by blending the first two efforts together, Ideon-style. The supposed "looping" that's been observed is simply because history has repeated itself through both these iterations, entirely by design (Dead Sea Scrolls), and many of the same key players have been involved in both "loops" by virtue of extraordinarily long life (Seele) or incarnation into new bodies (Adam(s) & Lilith reborn as the pilots). It'll be interesting to look at the "messages from the future" angle more closely using this model, which treats the films as a self-contained (though not lacking in intertextuality) narrative where time moves forward the way you'd expect.

The Japanese name of the novel isn't what's being used for the movie's subtitle, so I wouldn't put too much stock in it. A piece of trivia to keep in mind, more than anything else. The focus of inquiry should be on what was actually chosen.

Hurry up so I can read it!
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

Ah, so the film did get delayed like I thought. If I had to make a wild guess, its new release window will coincide with 3.0's original late fall release :emogendo:

I think it's great the film's subtitle isn't in the same style as the prior three movies, but it still references them indirectly. After reading the initial speculations on this thread, I think there won't be time travel, the sci-fi book title probably fits in via other themes like the re-occurrence of events.

The poster is also very symbolic and captures the many themes of eva:

-the three train track paths all converging on Shinji (most likely his final decision will impact how everything plays out in the end)
-his intentional pose and distance in the picture being reminiscent of ghost Rei
-the afternoon time of day, implying finality
-the text that reads "bye evengelion" referencing EoE/Anno's conclusion with this series/or the fact that the evas will cease to exist at the end once again
-the single path leading beyond where Shinji is standing signifying life/time will continue moving forward regardless of what happens
-let's see if Shinji's 3rd impact will result in a better outcome for himself and the world (or maybe not and it'll be another depressing ending like EOE)

It's alright. We live and learn from our mistakes. :) It can be hard to read someone's true intent on the internet based on just text alone, since text can't carry certain nuisances like tone of voice that a real conversation would.

All of Anno's final episodes (except Kare Kano) are named after sci-fi novles

Gunbuster: 果しなき流れの果に by Sakyo Komatsu (not translated)
Nadia: Inherit The Stars by James P. Hogan
Eva: The Beast that Shouted "I" [Love] at the Heart of the World by Harlan Ellison
And now with Rebuild: Thrice Upon A Time by James P. Hogan

It's interesting that all these somewhat niche sci-fi novels were available and translated in Japanese back when Anno started animating.
Also worth noting: The actual content of the stories has nothing to do with the narrative of the episodes that borrow their names.

NGE episode 26' bucks the trend slightly, but the overall "sci-fi" theme is intact regardless. I hadn't known about the convention extending beyond Eva (though admittedly I didn't bother to check, either...) Good shit.

The actual content of the stories has nothing to do with the narrative of the episodes that borrow their names.

I wouldn't go so far as to say there are NO similarities to take note of at all. Like with Flowers For Algernon vs. Episode 26', there's a pretty obvious parallel, however loosely played: Shinji's mind becomes very very big, and then it quickly becomes very very small again. But yeah, just "Easter egg" tier stuff, not "the story contains the secret to Anno's narrative".

Maybe the name and the poster with the railroads are showing us we're going to get the FAR ending. 3rd time = 3rd animated ending, the other 2 were derailed from the source material. Could mean almost anything though.

This is exciting. Hopefully the delay isn't too long.

Neat new poster... though based on Anno's tweet release is definitely delayed.

Unfortunate but he does seem upset by having to delay, so that's nice. Still what's a few more months after all this time.

I like the 'Thrice' in the title as, despite for a long time technically going to be a tetralogy of films, they never seem to have abandoned Rebuild having a tripartite/three part structure- with the Jo-Ha-Kyu naming scheme, the original intention for it to be three films with Q and Final released together as one, to Final being split of into a separate film from Q but, despite being often to referred to as 4.0, retaining part of 3.0 in it's name (at least for the overseas release). With 3.0 + 1.0 being able to be read as '3.0/Q part 2' or in the sense of 'the end (3.0) has something of the beginning (1.0)-or typically in ambiguous Eva fashion, can be read both ways.

Well, it was announced at some point that Q and Final would be released back-to-back or combined in some sense, but I don’t know how early into production they had planned that. TV spots announcing the tetralogy back before 1.0’s theatrical release clearly announced 4 separate titles with no indication that any of them will be joined. I think it was one of the ads shortly before or after 2.0’s release that Khara suggested that 3.0 and Final would be combined, but after a long hiatus of production updates relating to 3.0 the idea was abandoned.

Not that Anno doesn’t know what he’s doing (directors don’t work for as long as he does without knowing how to tell a pointed story), but Khara’s growing development as a new independent animation studio definitely meant that their productions were always in some state of flux.

Once the movie comes out in theaters and after we've discussed it to death à la Evangelion Q and finally receive a date for a home video release, it'll be Bye, Bye all of EVAGEEKS for me. I will feel I have have completed myself as an Eva fan, coming full circle. It's sad but also exciting and a thrilling prospect, as weird at it sounds being able to move on then. Evangelion, the original anime and the theatrical movies and the NTE iterations will be something I will watch once in a blue moon, every year or so and look fondly back at my memories. The end of Evangelion, it begins....

∆ Until some time after, possibly shortly, some sort of new Evangelion story is released, either a movie or TV show, and we all compare it to Anno's work, either positively or negatively, with the possibility of Eva becoming the next Gundam as Anno wants, with new Eva stories every year, told by different artist with different visions. Shin coming out is the beginning of the end, which is also the beginning. The beginning and the end are the same. :kaworusparkle: (<-just imagine the emoticon works and Kaworu is here).

Maybe unrelated, but didn't Kaworu say some gibberish about being "the third" when he woke up on the Moon at the end of 1.0? Could it be related?

I think with "third" he meant Shinji ("Third Child").
