Here in Puerto Rico, the lockdown was originally due to end on March 30 but recently got extended to April 12 to make sure the coronavirus has successfully left for good. I think I have spent more time inside my house since this crisis started than I have in any period of my life. Starting to miss fresh, unpolluted air from the outside world and realizing how much I took it for granted.

More of a minor inconvenience but with everyone in my complex at home (and Spectrum being almost the only ISP anyone uses) I feel as though there's a strain on the internet and I'm seeing more lag than usual, especially during prime time. Can anyone confirm if this is a thing or is the internet me and my roommates are using alone in the throttling?

I'm looking for a word starting with "P" that best describes a person who is totally and utterly morally corrupt, a egocentric stain on humanity whose actions are starting to border on being Nazi-level despicable, and who believes everything is the fault of the Other while claiming about themselves they are the best at everything yet also completely untouchable and irresponsible for anything.

Any suggestions?

I'm becoming more and more agitated as this social-distancing thing continues. My relief of cabin fever shouldn't be 20 minute drives to either Taco Bell or Chipotle once a day. I've been trying to keep my mind off things by working on my backlog of games, anime, and movies, and books but all it takes is one sensationalist headline or fear mongering news report and my mind goes into over drive thinking about all this. I was already very hostile against being told what to think or do and I feel being forced to sit at home and stew over it is only making it worse and I don't know what to do.

Also my hair is getting long and I don't know what to do because I don't know how to cut my own hair but it'll be a cold day in Hell before I shave it all off....

I have plenty to keep me busy so I don't have cabin fever, but...today I do feel blue about (another) fandom community which...feels like it's changed for the worse, I guess? And I'm bummed out as a result. I dunno, fandom is always fandom, of course :P At least I'll always have EGF no matter how much my other fan communities change  (Hell, even EGF has changed throughout the years :sweatdrop: It happens.)

I've had several emotional meltdowns this month due to lockdown and general anxiety about everything right now. I currently work at a pharmacy in the USA, so my job is considered essential enough to still have. But I recently migrated there from an optical outlet selling glasses specifically to help out the pharmacy during the pandemic. I'm not trained in a whole lot and, outside of bagging prescriptions and counting recalled pills, I have almost no idea what I'm doing. Since I'm only at the pharmacy as extra help during the pandemic, my training hasn't been that great. They expect me to run the register occasionally, which has two different systems it uses for checking out prescriptions. I have very little training in using the system that looks up and tracks prescriptions, have no idea which over-the-counter drugs need a Driver's License and which don't, and patients are constantly asking me questions that I don't have answers to. To add to that, everyone (myself included) is wearing masks, and we have a giant plexiglass sneeze guard put up recently to protect us from people coughing into the pharmacy. These are all great ideas, except that there's no way to clearly hear anyone on the other side of the sneeze guard. There's a slot at the bottom to exchange money and product, but no holes higher up to assist in audibility. Everyone gets frustrated when I have to ask themselves to repeat themselves 18 times because they can't be bothered to quit mumbling and speak up.

Add to that the fact that I don't get to see any of my friends very often because of the lockdown, and all of this stress just keeps building up without any social time to help me unwind. (I'm somewhat of an extroverted person, so this is really been negatively effecting me.) I've called out of work so many times just to help me maintain my mental health that I no longer have any paid time-off to use during the pandemic.

Keep in mind that none of this is normal for me. I don't usually suffer from mental health issues like this. I'm generally a pretty chill dude in person, and have a high physical and emotional pain tolerance. I've been depressed before for several years straight (2011 - 2016 were some pretty rough years for me), and it's never gotten so bad that I've had to suck dry all my paid time off in order to maintain composure. Whatever I'm feeling now is way more intense than all that.

I can't go back to the optical outlet either, as they are closed most of the day now, and are only open for glasses repairs during the pandemic. They only need one person to work in that area, and since I'm not a licensed optician, the state I'm in won't allow me to be the one working by myself. I'm only the hired help, so my help is being had in the pharmacy where I'm more needed.

I don't know how much longer I can take this. My state might go into Phase 2 of a slow re-opening of businesses by Friday, so maybe then things will change for the better enough for me to not feel as much pressure as I do now.

@Freaky - I hope you can keep on top of your anxiety. You can do no better than your best, and hopefully that will be enough, as you don't have the kind of employers who are deliberately putting you in harm's way.

View Original PostFreakyFilmFan4ever wrote:There's a slot at the bottom to exchange money and product,

In the UK a lot of businesses are refusing to handle cash at present, and many are only doing business using contactless cards (or phones with Apple/Google-pay), so that there's no need for customers to type a pin either. The banks helpfully upped the contactless transaction limit from £30 to £45 as soon as this started (the phone apps don't have this limit, because you have to authenticate to them). An alternative is to order online for collection, pay with PayPal or whatever, and bring the receipt printout to the collecting point.

But I have a feeling that we are rather more advanced in cashless facilities than most places...

Hang in there, Freaky. If worst comes to worst you could quit and see about getting unemployment. You might actually make more that way with the extra $600 they've added on top of what they already offer.

Thanks, everyone. I seem to have been doing a bit better these past couple days. But I don't know when these things happen, so...

Ugh. I hate these things. I've been shooting video again, though. I have a new computer (my old one broke and I was without editing equipment for over a month), and the video projects are kinda helping me cope.

IDK WTF to believe when it comes to KickVic vs IStandWithVic supporters. The YouTube crowd usually has IStandWithVic videos which is pretty much where I get my info and tend to take it at face value but when I go to forums like this one and Rangerboard, the general stance is KickVic. I already refused on principle to go to last year's local comic con where Vic was but I really want to go to a Florida event in August where he will be. I just don't want to be on the wrong side of the equation when it comes to this so any perspective on this matter would go a long way.

It's not your duty to enact some kind of vigilante justice in this matter. It's for the courts to decide if he did something wrong.
This is not some kind of war in which you even can be on the right or wrong side, as you have no affiliation to his potentially questionable actions, I presume.
The outcry itself is a nasty marketing ploy, in my opinion. If these "righteous" people would have been a lick better than him they would have stopped him from acting like this a long time ago by going to the courts instead of making a big fuzz out of it on social media to virtue signal.
I guess your logic is that you don't want to support a convention that pays him, correct? If that is your logic, the ethics of that decision is questionable at best. Literally everything you engage with does not have a white west - be it the production conditions of electronica and clothes, or the horrendous conditions animals pine away in food factories.

In the end all of this is the worst tumor out of internet drama I have ever seen. Nobody besides the courts should interact with it, imo.

I'm amazed so many people care about this guy. I had to look I'm up, had no idea who the hell he was. No surprise I guess, I don't watch dubbed anime.

I'm going to second what robersora said. Leave this dude to the courts.

Well, robersora already said pretty much what I wanted to say and more. I've got no clue if that guy is guilty, or what this is all about, so I won't take a side. In general, nobody can force you to engage with any topic if you don't want to. You are free to visit any convention you like, for whatever reason. Not everything you do is a political statement, even though people like to think it is - but that's their problem, not yours.
