Hey Reichu, just curious, how complicated is the kanji in Eva Chronicle? Do they provide any Hiragana or Katakana along with the kanji?
He was warrior and mystic, ogre and saint, the fox and the innocent, chivalrous, ruthless, less than a god, more than a man. There is no measuring Muad'Dib's motives by ordinary standards. In the moment of his triumph, he saw the death prepared for him, yet he accepted the treachery. Can you say he did this out of a sense of justice? Whose justice, then? Remember, we speak now of the Muad'Dib who ordered battle drums made from his enemies' skins, the Muad'Dib who denied the conventions of his ducal past with a wave of the hand, saying merely: "I am the Kwisatz Haderach. That is reason enough."

Well, kinda like this:
But it happened so fast, I can't positively say it was the same cut.
EDIT: Also, if I were somehow able to go to Japan while the movie's still playing, would I be able to get in if I don't know anyone who knows Japanese?
I don't know, *maybe* in a touristy place like Kyoto, but I haven't ran into anyone in Nagoya that speaks English.
My Japanese is pretty much non-existent, but doesn't the "ga" make it sound like "nihongo" doesn't understand? As opposed to the "wa" that makes "nihongo" the subject of "doesn't understand"? I dunno, rockthing says it sounds awkward with a "ga".

Doesn't Chronicle have its own thread?
No, there are no furigana. Although if you run the text through an Asian OCR (I got pretty good results with mine), you can look the kanji up without (usually) too much fuss.
...why do you ask?

Eh, you brought it up a few replies ago, so I guess I kinda took it upon myself to ask now...

Well, a good friend of mine (who's an Eva fan, also) is decent at Japanese, and he's currently working on a few Japanese rom hack translations, actually. Thing is, he's no good at kanji, and usually can't do too much without furigana, so if there was any of that, I was willing to see what he could do. I guess I could show him the scans and see what he can make of them, because he's gotten better lately, but I really can't promise anything.

Oh, the Proposal being printed in Chronicle and all?
Well, a good friend of mine <snip>
If the text is in a digital format (as opposed to being a graphic or whatever), he shouldn't have any excuses ;), since there are plenty of ways to look kanji up that just involve copy + paste. If he were interested in tackling the Proposal, I could theoretically furnish straight text. (Though I appear to have accidentally deleted that one page I prepared while testing my OCR... Crap.)
Any more should go to PMs.

Nah, Asuka's still gonna be around.
She's just probably going to the one of the lead three pilots to get the largest rewrite. So far Shinji's still the definite lead (And All Is Right With the World) and from what I've heard there isn't too much new original Rei scenes in Eva 1.0.
But with Eva 2.0 you got insane escalation with not only three more angels but brand new plot points, returning characters and then the characters properly getting introduced in the next film.
Kaworu's gonna get a boost if he's in the movie (and not shoehorned in at the last scene to speak some cryptic BS and get people hyped for Part 3), not sure what role the new girl is going to play but I can't see her being an official love interest for Shinji. Asuka's probably going to be more like her manga counterpart and just be a highly volatile addition to the cast.
I'm still thinking somehow that with Film 1 essentially being heavily focused on Rei and Shinji and the next films being highly plot heavy I'm leaning towards thinking the two key relationships in the movies are Shinji/Misato and Shinji/Rei.
P.S. In a move that has shocked no one, EVANGELION 1.0 took #1 at Japanese box office this weekend making 280 million yen at 84 locations (thats like $2.4 million). Apparently many theaters even sold out all their tickets. This means over a quarter of a million people have been lucky enough to see the film before I have. Damn. Its been a long weekend.

Was at a Lawson's today and saw this magazine all about the Evangelion pachinko machines and some other slot machine, it was like 100 pages or so 590yen, had a ton of funny pictures, but there were also 4 pages with rebuild info. Probably nothing new, but since I didn't have a scanner, had to use a camera:

Not really a new trend, dude. Have you ever seen Akira? Kaneda's bike represented half of corporate Japan (Canon, Citizen, Shoei, etc.)

There was something on ANN about it being shown somewhere else in Asia for a film festival, but that's not any more helpful... >_>
It's in Korea actually, and it's being shown on the last day of the Film Festival (don't remember that name, but it's this month). No other announcements about overseas releases beyond that.
