yeah, sorry... spell-checker isn't as up to date with the new hotness it seems. Of course, I meant vaporwaVe.
Also, while this color scheme has been done, Ai-City comes to my mind, I adore the fact that now its resurgence is happening after we've transitioned from cell on to fully digitally produced works. It's an old look with new paint or something, idk.

Should have added this.
The OST can be preordered on amazon.
This version contains a sticker as a free gift:

Edit: Seems the forum doesn't recognize that as an URL, but it works if you copy it.

Awesome as FUCK new Promare trailer.
Some people might consider it spoiler heavy (though obviously I doubt it contains true spoilers).

I love, love, LOVE the color palette. I'm curious how Imaishi's mega-intense style will translate to the runtime of a movie though. Either way, looking forward to seeing the movie in, like, a year or so, lol.

Edit2: I had a message answering robersora, but it seems I didn't actually post it? lol
I might post some of those ideas tomorrow.

Toho shared an entire Promare action scene.
I imagine we won't get any more of the film!

GKids has picked up the North American distribution rights to PROMARE.

Premiere Event screening on September 17 & September 19th (probably a one time screening each of those two days in something 500 to 800 theaters nationwide).
Then a small theatrical run starting September 20th in probably 10 to 15 theaters across the country.

I will be going to this for sure!

https://gkids.com/films/promare/

This also means Promare should get a top notch home video release as well since GKids is committed to quality!

Was about to post this haha.

Awesome news.
Still not sure if I'd watch it at the cinema or at home. A little conflicted.
Hope it reaches as many regions as possible.

I got to see Promare last night, and it was a real treat. Definitely worth seeing in the theater since there's so much craziness and color and typical Trigger stuff flying across the screen. I was legit thinking during the movie how much would be lost when I watch on my little tv at my apartment, haha. The character designs were all really nice, and I was happy to see they had the seiyu with the cute voice that played the band leader girl in Kill La Kill. There was no point during the film in which I was bored, and after about an hour and a half I started getting sad that it was about to end. It's probably my favorite thing that Imaishi has done, and is right up there with SSSSSSSS.Gridman & Little Witch Academia as the finest Trigger works. It's a tad predictable if you've seen other things Imaishi has done, but if you like you some Gainax(and since we're all Evageeks, ya probably do) there's a few scenes that'll warm your heart.

But what's with me going 29 years of my life and never watching a firefighting & human combustion annimay, and then watching 2 in the same month? hehe
I used to work in a factory and I was really happy because I could daydream all day -- I.C.
And thanks to EVA, I've started like myself and that has made me very happy. Mr. Anno, please keep working on EVA a lot more.
and thank you so much for everything!!

The story was a mess. The characters were empty vessels (though excellent character design, I get why Lio is such a hit at the moment, he may have zero personality but his appearance is stylish and lovable).

But, when the animation is that fun and the team making it is having such a great and infectious time creating it I couldn't complain. It's an A+ movie with a C- story.

I loved the movie for all its faults.

I really enjoyed it but I agree the story was nonsense. This was essentially when you were a kid and would mash all your action figures together to see how the Megazord would fare against Mazinger. The thing is though it's probably some of the best animation I've ever seen in an anime film so it doesn't matter when it's just that cool. The whole time I was thinking "Yeah, it looks cool but it's not weird like Dead Leaves or hitting me in the heart like a Shin-Chan film" but then the last part of the film is so amazingly spectacularly over the top it did not even matter. I still think SSSS.Gridman is probably my favorite Trigger thing too, thanks to Keiichi Hasegawa's amazing script and one of the best characters in anime ever, but this is without a doubt a must see film for how beautiful it is and directed so well I would overlook all the faults and can't wait to see it again! Let's hope Funimation is not the one releasing it on home video!

Gurren Lagan has the best story because the pacing of the narrative is solid throughout and the massive jumps in scale work with the thematic through line of human evolution always advancing and moving on to larger things. The fact the show essentially solidly reinvented itself every 7 episodes helped make the story a smooth progressive narrative with 4 set Acts that each had their own set goals, protagonists, antagonists and narrative + character archs.

Kill La Kill is a lot muddier because the first and second half are pretty much entirely different narratives - the show establishes one storyline for the first 11 episodes then in episode 12 they just have a whole new storyline jump in and the show say THAT’S actually what this has all been about even though there has been little to no setup made -with little actual build up created for the second half. But, the piecemeal pacing of a 24 episode series helps make it passable as things can be broken up and given focus on an episode by episode basis. It’s a stronger showcase of what Trigger could do visually and animation wise than it is a narrative.

Some of the next stuff counts as a Promare spoiler so i’ve put it in the tab thing:
SPOILER: Show
Promare’s narrative is a mess because it starts out being a VERY blunt but effective parable about racism and how societies demonize that which is different (pretty powerful narrative to come out of a Japanese anime but the Trigger crew seem to have a greater understanding and appreciation of the various cultures outside of Japan) and then the movie drops all that to be about wormholes and aliens from parallel universes and never really follows through on any of the thematic elements it sets up In the first hour. Like if you summarize the movie’s narrative focus it’s “People are different and what other cultures (Burnish) do may feel dangerous and even threatening but racism is wrong and we should not judge a whole ethnic group because of the actions of a few and what we need to do is work through our differences to find a way to live beca-ACTUALLY WE’RE ALL THE SAME AND ALIENS FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION ARE TO BLAME FOR EVERYTHING WRONG IN SOCIETY!!” The filmmakers themselves seem pretty open about it being a mess because literally the never before mentioned Exposition Character shows up for one scene, says “I’m here for exposition” and another main character is all “Aliens? Whatever. When do we fight Again?”

As a 24 episode TV series the messy storyline wouldn’t be perfect but would probably work better since it could spread out and delivered piece by piece - I would not be surprised to hear this idea started out as a full TV series - but as a film it’s just a poorly constructed skeleton of an idea that exists simply to get the set pieces. I think the movie stops cold at least four times to deliver exposition heavy moments that have nothing to do with the characters emotional journey and purely exist to say “Here’s the reason why this stuff is happening for the next 20 minutes and here’s the MacGuffin.” Thankfully those set pieces and the general construction of the film visually Is a delight (again, I think the characters as written are terribly thin and only one - Aina’s Sister who isn’t introduced until about an hour in - actually has a character arch, but as designed and animated the characters are delightful) so the movie is a success. I have no issue with the story being a thin vessel for the visual splendor of the film’s look and feel.

As for the video release GKids picked up the movie so they’ll be handling that I imagine.

I'm starting to think Imaishi just really, really, really wants to get drilled by a lean, dim-witted blue-haired guy.
