I can't believe it but we are actually gonna get a live action show. Not sure how I feel about it but I guess in the long run anime adaptations aren't a bad thing.

Re: Cowboy Bebop
I'd give a Live-action TV series of Cowboy Bebop a shot.
I've gotta say, though, I've thought about this and I'm uncertain of what I'd like in a live-action adaptation. A recreation of the style a setting? Some pleasant little one-shot episodes? Well choreographed space-western action sequences? Or watching this set of characters interacting with and riffing off of one another?
One thing though is that I'd like for it to do is offer fresh and reasonable conflicts for these characters to face, and force them out of their comfort zones. For all that the original series does (which I guess is what we'll have to call if it this live action series does go through), I don't remember it really pushing any of the central cast too far from their collective comfort - and as their everyday struggles to get food and work were usually played as comedy for comic relief (and for reason, as it is a cartoon) I'd feel more than a little odd watching real people in their situation (in their own ship in space) shrug off not having their own food more than once or twice without it turning into some sort of crisis.
Come to think of it, I lasted watched this series seven years ago, and apart from some key story beats I don't recall a lot about the thematic dimensions in the series. Is this something that anyone else has felt as well?

I'd like a good script based on what made Cowboy Bebop great that doesn't turn into a simple live action copy paste and this:

Western live-action anime adaptations have NEVER turned out well, neither critically nor financially. What I expect from the show is far different from what I want in the show.

Got my head outta the gutter this morning to watch Jupiter Jazz Part 2. Powerful material from the history between Gren and Vicious down to the beautiful, dulcet tones of the ending song "Space Lion". Gonna be stuck with that melody in my head all the time now that I got it on my iPod as soon as I got done with the episode.

Bump
Well, seeing as the discussion a year ago was about this, Netflix is releasing a live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. I wonder if that means they'll be streaming the original too...

The original has been on Netflix Italy for at least a few years (but sadly not the movie).
Also Keanu Reeves as Spike or riot.

Re: Cowboy Bebop
Can't imagine Reeves actually being cast, as interesting as it would be.
I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is more age-appropriate for the role. Plus, he probably has a familiarity with the series--his character in Brick was heavily modeled on Spike.

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

Re: Cowboy Bebop
^ Well Reeves is wishful thinking on my part, and Gordon-Levitt could do it, but who would be Faye? Alexandra Daddario? And who would be cast as Jet? Forrest Whitaker? I can't even think of someone to play Ed.

Re: Cowboy Bebop
Lakeith Stanfield as Spike or I riot.
Either way, I'm curious if Shinichiro Watanabe's consulting producer credit is the very rare "He actually was involved in most aspects of production in a consulting fashion" role OR the far common John Carpenter style of "He's given a massive paycheck for the assurance that up to a certain date that is long after the production is released, whenever asked about the production he only says the most upbeat & positive things possible".
I will say it's sneaky how they credit the new show as being from the "writer of Thor: Ragnarok" when that movie was heavily re-written in production by Taika Waititi. It would be more authentic to say it's from the writer of Thor: The Dark World or something called Max Steel.
I don't think a live action Cowboy Bebop is a good idea cause the animation in the original is so perfect & stylized to that world specifically, at best a live action show could be a good mimic. But, it's not like I'm NOT gonna watch this. That's the success of the Netflix model. I have a membership so when it's ready I can watch this whenever I want and I have a passing interest in it because I like the show. Soooooo one quiet Tuesday evening in late 2019 I'm sure I'll be browsing Netflix looking for something to watch, will come across this, think for a second and even if the reviews are live-action Fullmetal Alchemist or live action Death Note bad I'll just shrug say "fuck it" and click play.

Re: Cowboy Bebop
Honestly, I do neither know of, nor do I care that much about American pop culture to make any educated statements on that topic, sorry.
Yoko Kann also was kind of a meme-answer, because... Have you seen how she acts IRL? lol
(I feel like the two things that come out of Hollywood is either some boring genuflection to American hyper-individuality and vigilantism in form of a super hero movie or extensions to some franchise.)

Is Bebop well known in Italy?
I'm curious as if it was on Netflix Germany.

I guess it's the latter. But honestly, I really think he loves the idea either way, he seems like a huge movie nerd.
I mean, the original show's aesthetics are phenomenal. But I think, if amazingly talented people work on this project with the right mindset, I can see this working.
(though I also thought I could see Death Note working in Live Action, so who knows)

I'm in the cautiously optimistic camp on this one, Bebop is one of those properties that can transition to live action quite easily.

Re: Cowboy Bebop
Watanabe has been know to cuss out American producers for projects he's been commissioned to work on himself. When the producers for Blade Runner 2049 told him that he couldn't bring in his own score composer for his animated short film, Shinichiro shouted "shut your fucking mouth" in English. (He ended up getting his own score composer for his Blade Runner short film, BTW.)
All I'm saying is that, if they're not giving him open freedom to take this wherever he wants, then Netflix had better just give Watanabe their bank account and routing numbers if they wanna keep that off the discussion topics for the time being.
Also, yes. Yoko Kanno as Ed or I'll riot.

I need sources for that. That sounds frankly amazing.
Now Tokyo in Resonance makes even less sense to me.
