I'd say your 100% right on this one, hence I steer clear of all that BS. I haven't been to Kotaku in 4 years lol.

Also a great tool for getting through the modern internet, Chrome extensions that block the comment sections of websites. Done wonders for my experience.

I think that, when the youngsters come in asking "What was up with Rei?" or whatever, that we should ask them "Well, what do you think?" before launching them off on some extensive thread hunt for discussions and answers.If we can engage with them prior to sending them off treasure hunting, they'll probably stick around for a bit longer.

As for the lack of physical discs commercially available in my home country, I am still disappointed. H O W E V E R . . . having this on a streaming site as dominating and addictive as Netflix will now give me a better way to evangelize Evangelion to everyone around me. And that is always great thing. I will be sad if and when NGE leaves Netflix, even if there is a US disc release by that time. I'll be fine either way. (I have all the ADV VHS and DVDs, along with the Khara BDs, and several digital files I've ripped from both disc formats.) But my fellow humans must have access to this show at all times.

I didn't skim the thread, so I'm not sure if I missed any development since yesterday's news drop, but this is exciting! Hope we'll eventually get a dang western-release Bluray Box, but it's 100% better than nothing!

The trailer quality looked nice enough that I'm assuming it's 1080 rip/stream of the Bluray Box...Guess we'll see? My main hope from this is a retranslation (redub too*, assuming they go that route!) because holy hell, EoE especially needs fixing with that Adam and Lilith flub Dunno if anyone asked Netflix on Twitter/wherever what their translation plans are but I'd assume it's too early for them to say. Seems like Khara has a huge hand in this, too, since they tweeted on the official Eva account(s) yesterday. Makes sense if it's to gain hype/a loose PR stunt for Shin Eva in 2020.

*A Twitter friend told me Netflix is California-based, so Spike Spencer would be the only one to return if a redub happens. I'd love to see consistency with the Funi's Rebuild cast but....oh, well.

I'm not sure if Gainax had the rights to ADV's English dub of NGE, or if ADV was the only rights holders of their own recordings, but seeing as how the rights to various aspects of NGE has shifted so much on both ends of the globe since 1995, I wouldn't be surprised of Netflix simply slapped some subs on Khara's original Japanese audio tracks and called it a day. If Netflix does decide to re-record a new English dub, I'm pretty sure they can outsource to/rent another facility to handle that. I honestly have no clue how Netflix produces content, I just know that they do.

1- Eva memes are like 20 for a dollar, so no surprise there... Some are quite funny actually...
2- Oooh yes... I can see articles ranging from "The misogynistic nature of the Plugsuits" to "Why ShinjixKaworu was revolutionary" without any context on why those things are...
3- I'll just sit and watch the world burn from afar... It's so much fun to see people trying to debate with half-baked arguments and poor understanding of the material (once in an anime convention I overheard a guy thet legit believed Rei was Shinji's twin sister)

Honestly, I'm half-expecting them to do that. Considering the Japanese Eva accounts covered the news yesterday and the Rebuilds in Japan are available on another streaming service (Gendo'sPapa mentioned this in a Rebuild thread), I have the sense this was Khara's decision. My secret hope is an official subtitle translation by Dan Kanemitsu that's handed off to English-speaking Netflix, but I guess it's all wait and see.

Like, maybe there would be a hold-off on a dub whenever/assuming a Western bluray box eventually happens.

This is fantastic news! Netflix finally did the impossible and bought the license to stream Evangelion to a worldwide audience. I’m so happy about this. Yay!

I don't know, there's a few reasons that make me skeptical of that approach.
1) If they'd "just" use subtitles, why would they need another 4-6 months to release it?
2) I'm sure they know that this is one of the highest profile shows (in a niche market, of course) they could get.
3) If they didn't know how big this announcement was going to splash, after their Tweet blew up, I'm sure they know.
4) I know of no release of Netflix that lacked dubbing.

I can answer your first point. Netflix tends to release hows in giant batch updates. NGE isn't the only thing being released in the Spring, it'll be streamed with a lot of other newly acquired shows.

Other than that, you raise very good points. I'm just really not sure the details of getting ADV's old dub or recording a new one. IF they're not announcing new vocal cast members, then they'll probably use ADV's old dub.

Yeah, not sure how to feel about this. New people are going to be flocking to our wiki which is a garbage dump that needs an unimaginable amount of work done. I feel accountable for the state of that place (rightly or wrongly) but I don't know how to fix the problem in a way that doesn't play ball with my neuroses and other dysfunctions. There's also the whole "imagining the content that's going to get posted onto click-hungry media coverage sites and hacky YT channels trying to capitalize on the streaming release" thing. Makes me feel sick. Blah blah blah, I'm old and tired and overprotective, keep this ghastly world we live in away from my precious thing. I'm a shitty person so this news makes me anxious rather than excited.

@Shiki: There is DC content in the final cut of DEATH. (The film even begins with one such sequence!) It mainly differs from the initial cut in having Asuka's updated mindrape removed.
