After watching the 15 sec Fly Me 2007 clip and Beautiful World clip back to back, it just dawned on me that Misato takes Shinji's arm in the same scene he looks up all surprised:
I dunno if it's connected to any of this, though:
(I guess the first two (Misato: I believe in Shogoki's Pilot and Shinji's angry: Oh no not again look) are, which would explain Shinji's angry look. "What do you mean you believe in me?! I ain't no Eva Pilot!")
Anyway, I was able to acquire the full versions of Fly Me 2007 and Beautiful World just the other day, and both are very fitting. From the lyrics of BW based what I gather, I think its something about Shinji or from his POV (Utada sings with the term "Boku", what Shinji uses). And lol, one of the lines has to do with "Like in Shonen-Manga".
My only problem with Shinji's new look is it seems too Sadamoto-Manga-ish Shinji to me and not really Animeish Shinji. (In terms of looks.) I dunno, maybe its his eyes?

It's mainly the hair and the more mature/serious look/shape of his eyes and the fact that his skull remains a consistent shape throughout.
Aesthetically I like Rebuild/Manga Shinji better than anime Shinji.
