Nerv just threw all this crap at him so the only 2 options he had was "death" and "death"

No, the navy, as per that episode, didn't have any weapons that could kill Iruel, short of an Iowa BB firing all forward 16 inch cannons into the mouth at point-blank(Ah, the Iowa. A Battleship that made the Japanese jealous because the Yamato was merely second-rate next to it.)

Iruel had two options:

A): Decimate whatever part of the UN fleet it could, and come back later, or...

B): Withdraw from the fight. Surely, the angel could withdraw, lick it's wound's, and engage at a later time. But, then again, Angels ARE retards, so I guess i'm giving Iruel too much credit.

Gonna have to go with Zer on ths one. Powerful and nigh unstoppable, has his priorities straight, can cut through armor layers like soft cheese, and had one of the awesomer, more memorable deaths of his siblings.

Zeruel, he got the farthest besides Kaworu and he took down Asuka and Rei so easily. That angel died a honorable death.

As the Angel on a whole? Tabris of course. But if you mean REAL Angels, probably Leliel. I also really loved Zeruel, Armisael, Arael and Sachiel.

No one said Israfel. He's my favorite ... D: Although he (yes, I know Kou and Otsu are yin and yang, and thus male+female, but bear with me) is not exactly the strongest angel, I'm a fan of his design, and just the fact that he also seems to have a bit of a personality, not unlike Sachiel. Plus, he really made the protagonists think outside of the box in order to defeat him, which is a nice change as opposed to stabbing/shooting/eating things all the time.

And, come on, is there anyone out there who really dislikes Shogouki + Nigouki's coordinated attack scene?

no, i thought the jazzy classical music was pretty clever, because it was Kaji's idea, that sly bastard! lol Kaji is awesome.

nah, at one point i could see both pairings equally probably, but i'll save my opinion for another thread.

so yes, i like the coordinated attack scene. i like how everything was outrageously synchronized. i mean, i was impressed that they had the shell firings and the rocket-launchings all synch'd to the short classical piece. very nice, anno.

Kaworu is technically my favorite Angel - but I don't really think of him as an Angel, anyway, because he's totally different from the rest of 'em.

Favorite Angel has to be Zeruel! Zeruel was just crazy, and then Unit01 going berserker ... Zeruel's ep is easily among my favorite anime eps ever! Sachiel is definately the most iconic, though! And Ramiel is awesome because he's just an enormous crystal!
