Saw some porn of it. Fapped. I was then obligated to at least try the series at that point
AM: Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word 'hate' was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant. For you. Hate. Hate.

Agreed. I watched it through a video I got from my library when I was a teen.

I got into it by reading lemons, then I went straight to EoE.

That strikes me as rather bass-ackwards. If you don't know the characters first, it strikes me that it would be like having your smut obscured by dangling references.

This also seems pretty backwards to me. What reason would one have to do this, even? "The End" is literally in the title of the film.

Have you watched the series yet, or just EoE? I mean weren't you missing like... I don't know, context?

Anyone have an idea how much my 96-06 10th anniversary neon genesis platinum dvd set is worth?
Re: How did you first get into Evangelion?
I vaguely knew about it, when I was first getting into anime. I knew it was argued about a lot, was "2deep4u",and had a controversial ending. What got me to sit down and watch it was seeing some pretty creepy/trippy gifs from EoE somewhere. I remember GNR breaking apart, people getting tanged, part of Asuka's fight scene, and maybe some others. I just had to find what the hell was going on so I finally watched the series.

Re: How did you first get into Evangelion?
My uncle was getting me into anime in the late 90s, when I was a kid. He would tell me all about his favorites. Turns out Eva and Ruroni Kenshin are his favorites. So I ended up watching it. Could not understand shit, and was really impressed by all the violence and sexual innuendo. But, as most kids do, even though I had no idea what it was about, I thought I loved it because it looked cool. I watched it repeatedly at least once every other year, and I ended up loving it and eventually understanding it. Nowadays I'm not even so THAT into animes anymore (I really just like FMA, Cowboy Bebop and Eva), but Eva stood out as a masterpiece for me.

Re: How did you first get into Evangelion?
First saw a model kit for an "End of Evangelion" edition of Unit-01 in a comic book shop back in my high school days. I was curious what the series was all about, so I asked a classmate of mine who was a big mecha fan. He then lent me his DVDs of the entire series (Including EoE) and I immediately jumped into the franchise with quite a bit of enthusiasm.
I must admit though, digesting and dealing with the subject matter was a bit painful.

It's like you can't avoid it when you're Japanese. You definitely saw some kind of image of Rei or Asuka or 01 before you were 10, and one of your friends is bound to sing A Cruel Angel's Thesis @ a Karaoke party. So I finally started Neon Genesis in the beginning of 2016 (really late to the party) because of a feeling of obligation to watch the classic if you're an anime fan. I actually started with Sadamoto's manga: Thought it was okay. Saw the Rebuild movies: It was cool. Nice visuals. Finally saw the TV series and Eoe: I am fully invested in this cult now. It's like the more I thought about Eva, the more I became obsessed about it.
I need a friend that watches Evangelion.

Re: How did you first get into Evangelion?
I was really bored on Youtube one day back in about 9th Grade (US). I was just finding out how much I liked playing the violin at the time, and dedicated more time to practicing and listening to anything that would appeal to me. I stumbled across this interesting Canon in D remix-duet, one acoustic violin and one electric played by two different people with strange masks. Apparently they did lots of other covers, and low-and-behold they did one of A Cruel Angel's Thesis. It was definitely something that peaked my interest, so I looked up the actual intro theme that it originated from. Hooked instantly, and without a doubt became one of my favorite TV themes without even having watched the show. It was absolutely amazing, but I never actually watched the show (or anime in general) at the time.
It took me until this past year (so 4-5 years?) to actually get around to watch the show. Yeah, really late to the party considering I knew about its existence for that long, but hey, give me a break, I didn't really like anime that much. Good thing too, I don't think 14 year old me would've been able to appreciate the show (much less have the patience to wait for the Rebuilds).

That's a fascinating story, especially since Canon in D makes an appearance in Death! Have you watched Death yet?

Yep, it feels like forever since I watched that considering how relatively unimportant it is.
I honestly never thought about how Canon in D is in there, thanks for pointing that out. I guess a bit of NGE has been with me for longer than I thought.

My first contact with NGE i think it was in 2001 a friend tells me in shool from a "cool" anime series
After watching with him the series in english i was fascinated about. And in school we made a lot of discussions about the Eva and the Angels Later i had started read the manga and NGE became my favorite Anime and Manga (love the manga)

Re: How did you first get into Evangelion?
I knew it was a highly praised serie with some movie reboots that have a strange numeration by surfing the internet and searching for good anime. I didn't bother watching it for years until I saw the Blu Ray and DVD of the Rebuilds in stand at a comicon. I was searching for some Ghibli movies and the cover for 1.11 looked so cool. In the next 4 days I saw NGE+EoE+Rebuilds.

Re: How did you first get into Evangelion?
I developed an interest as a direct result of my fanatical interest in "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" (manga more so than film). Upon learning that Anno was a protege of Miyazaki Hayao (and that there are some small Easter-egg references in NGE to the manga: indeed, Anno at one time hoped to author a spin-off of his mentor's magnum opus), I thought NGE would definitely be worth my time. I was not disappointed.

Re: How did you first get into Evangelion?
My first exposure came in the early 2000s when NGE was airing on Adult Swim. Don't even remember if it finished its full run that first time i saw it. After hearing about the rebuild movies but shortly before they were to start coming out i rewatched NGE+EoE to get caught up the whole story proper.
The NTE though, initially i only watched 1.0 in late 2000s and got pretty disappointed since at the time it seemed like just a rehash of NGE with better animation. Watched 2.0 as soon as all the spoilery stuff regarding 3.0 made it clear it would indeed be different from NGE, and watched 3.0 soon after it came out. So i guess i got exposed early but only got into it quite late.
