So Godzilla could be played by even a cute little talkshow hostess? Ah the magic of moviemaking!

Why does it have

Track 13 is pretty good.

Why does 3.0 have music from Nadia?

'Cos that's what they wanted!

Trying to out-do the number of variants in 1.0, of course.

This was a minor gripe I had with 3.0, but I suppose I'll talk about it here because it's relevant.

I cannot get behind the directorial decision in choosing to recycle music tracks from previous projects, UNLESS that project is a sequel or a remake of a previous entry in the same series, thus making thematic sense for music to be carried over. To me, not only is it lazy and uncreative, but it takes me out of the piece altogether.

Like when Quentin Tarantino reused this piece of music from Kill Bill for a scene in Inglorious Basterds. I know QT probably likes to temp track a lot of his films based on the fact that pretty much all of his films (except for The Hateful Eight) used existing vague film score tracks for the vast majority of the music, but the repetition here in particular is glaringly noticeable and feels cheap.

Now, I obviously haven't seen the film, but the fact that they incorporate that significant an amount of the Eva soundtrack into a totally unrelated property feels inappropriate. You never see Spielberg getting John Williams to sneak in the theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind into E.T., or for David Lynch to get Angelo Badalamenti to sneak themes from Twin Peaks into Mulholland Drive, or for Miyazaki to have Joe Hisaishi revamp tracks from Nausicaa for Princess Mononoke, now do you? I cannot think of another example of a director so frequently asking his go-to composer to cannibalize their own collaborative soundtrack catalogue into various unrelated series like this before.

We have Anno recycling several Kare Kano themes into 2.0, several Nadia themes into 3.0, and now a significant amount of material from Evangelion into Shin Gojira. I honestly don't get why he does this. Yes, Shiro's music is good, but when you transplant music from another property, your brain's automatically gonna think about that other property and not the film currently being viewed. Let the film you're making stand on its own merits without having to reference your back catalogue so explicitly.

I know this cannot be his intention, but it comes across as very self-aggrandizing. Yes, Anno, we know you made Evangelion. EVERYONE in Japan knows that you made Evangelion. You don't have to be pimping out your previous material in every film you've made for nearly the last decade in this manner. Let Shiro compose new and exciting music for you! It's Godzilla; not Godzilla vs. Evangelion.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

Yeah. Kinda disappointed to hear so many Eva tracks in the soundtrack. They might work wonders contextually in the film but it is a downer to know there's a couple tracks on the soundtrack I'll just be skipping whenever they come on.

Anno reusing KareKano tracks in 2.0 & Nadia tracks in 3.0 didn't bother me because I felt the tracks were re contextualized enough to feel fresh & original - I liked how the happy tracks of KareKano placed over Evangelion really underlined "these are the happy moments, enjoy them" & Ive only watched Nadia once about a decade ago so when those tracks pop up in 3.0 they feel fresh to me, plus the reused elements were really just a small part of the overall final film & soundtrack - but listening to the score samples did leave me wanting for more original stuff.

I do like the sound of the old Godzilla tracks coming back though. This does not darken my anticipation to see this movie at all. In fact all the reviews I've read so far have only gotten me more excited. Even the negative views are getting me pumped because all the things they said they had a problem with - it being a procedural about how the government reacts to a crisis, too much talking, no main character until becoming present until well into the second act - are concepts & ideas I find fascinating.

Funimation needs to set those shows so I can buy a ticket & put it on my calendar.

P.S. At this rate I'm guessing there will be a few Gunbuster or classic Godzilla tracks on Evangelion 3.0+1.0.

Guy Nacks, I think it might have more to do with the fact that Anno believes that there is and never can be any originality in modern media anymore. He believes that anime specifically is stagnant, and says that Eva is still the most original anime in years despite the fact that he knows that he borrowed many elements from other shows in order to create it. It's not hard to see how this also might relate to media outside Japan.

TLDR; There's nothing new under the sun, this stuff here feels a bit more different than the rest of the monotony, so why not use it again here?

Nothing new there - this has been a complaint at many times throughout history.

If an Eva doesn't rise up out of the ground to Buster Machine March, we riot.

I really love Persecution of the Masses. It was the perfect theme for the trailer to set the tone of the movie. Kind of weird how it transitions from a bouncy tune that sounds like a Sherlock theme to that.

like when 2014-Godzilla used "Star Gate" from 2001 A Space Odyssey. https://youtu.be/ou6JNQwPWE0

Wut? I don't get it. Do you mean 3.0 used a theme similar to Fairy's Fountain? If so in which part of the movie?

Does anybody know, if Japanese LA movies take as long as Anime movies to get released on Blu-Ray in Japan?

An artist's interpretation of the ending spoiler I mentioned on the previous page:
SPOILER: Show
Image
An anon who'd seen the film said that they were coming out of the sides and reaching for the tip/sky and that they weren't sure about the spines, but said that the size and poses were accurate.

Something familiar about it... :chinscratch:

That's not only a very cynical viewpoint, but further paints the man as ridiculously egocentric. He doesn't acknowledge the existence of Cowboy Bebop, FMA, Madoka Magica, Paranoia Agent, Clannad: After Story, Monster, fucking SPIRITED AWAY, or any number of other highly regarded properties that have influenced the medium in some way since NGE's original airing?

Seriously?
