Essay about Hayao Miyazaki, written by Hideaki Anno
Heres something I found online: http://keyframe.cjas.org/~mneideng/trans/misc/annoghib.txt
Its an essay written by Hideaki Anno and how he feels about Hayao Miyazaki.

I'd say he hits the nail on the head for some of Miyazaki's work, but the ones not aimed at young children do contain more of the 'blood' he mentions. The fact that this was written before he saw Mononoke is rather telling.

They should have used asterisks instead.
Thanks for the find, Goose. "The Day That Anime Died" makes more sense now.

Mentioned here. (I searched for "miyazaki anno's wedding".) I get tons of Japanese results when I do a search using the string "庵野秀明 モヨコ 宮崎 結婚" (Hideaki Anno, Moyoco, Miyazaki, wedding).

Nice read, I liked this. Being able to read and watch interviews with Anno over the past half year or so has really just made me respect him and empathize (due to depression and such) more then I already do.
...Does Anno-sensei mean EoE?? Or maybe one of his live-action works? I thought Mononoke-hime was released in Japan in 98, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think this would it?

Thanks for posting this. It's funny to read Anno's opinion on Miyazaki's work, particularly since I've always felt that Miyazaki played it very safe when it came to the storylines and themes of his films. While a great majority of them are unquestionable technical masterpieces, I cannot help but feeling that there's a certain feeling of "formula" to them that just ends up being, well, repetitive.

Princess Mononoke came out on July 12, 1997. EoE came out a week later on July 19, 1997 so it's very likely he is refering to EoE
