Will be released in Summer 2017. Edward Elric will be played by Yamada Ryosuke from the popular idol group Hey!Say!JUMP.

Meh. Personally I'd rather see a continuation of the 2003 anime series reuniting the key creative staff (Seiji Mizushima, Sho Aikawa, Michiru Oshima) and maybe bringing on Hiromu Arakawa again as a supervisor but I may be the only person who does.

Personally, i would like to see a spin off set in the same world. The 2003 anime was perfect but the movie was average.

Live-Action anime adaptations have a distressing trend of being quite bad, not to mention being poor adaptations of the source material. So I'm a bit worried this is going to continue the trend especially since FMA is explicitly set in a world analogous to early 20th century Europe. Maybe I'll be surprised, but I kind of doubt it.

I can't imagine this working out well.

They announced the rest of the cast for the movie. It seems they will start shooting this summer in Italy.

Interesting. But I'd rather not see live-action adaptations of anime. They could however make this work better than say Eva, as FMA is grounded somewhat in reality.

Awesome to see that this IP isn't dead as FMA:B came out a while ago now.

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

It's a Japanese Production so to a certain extent they can be excused. Unlike the US, simply put there are no White People to cast!
