Re: the problem with eva hentai doujinshi
If I'm reading Evangelion H manga, I don't particularly care about perfectly faithful adaptations of the characters. As long as there's enough of the character for me to believe it's the character-- and sometimes this can be just as much as how they look combined with a phrase or two-- I'll read it.
Shin Evangelion brought me back, five long years later.

Re: the problem with eva hentai doujinshi
Eva doujinshi? Count me in. I'm mostly in it for shit and giggles but as said somewhere above, the characters aren't in character most of the time and I really hate that as well because it's just mindless fucking otherwise. Then there's the fucked up category like Monstrassault 7 and the sort of doujinshi where Rei mind breaks Asuka by forcing her to eat her shi- and the less said about that the better.
Ha. Meme. You see that pic from time to time on 4chins. But hentai logic is dumb but funny.

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
I kinda had to do a double take when I first read the title of the thread and even more when I read the posts form lily liver. and I'm like "What..?"
I can't shake this feeling of pretentiousness when reading these lines about Re-Take, (which as far as H-doujinshi it plays it extremely safe by not doing anything particularly interesting, just M/K and A/S as far as my knowledge goes, I have a personal hatred of of Studio Kimagabuchi so I don't plan on reading it) and prattling on about how folks who like Eva doujinshi don't actually care about the characters beyond looks.
Saigado has done some pretty decent characterizations in their Shinji/Misato content, which I enjoy being a fan of Straight Shota as well as a fan of Eva. Am I not allowed to enjoy lewd content of my favorite characters regardless of series or is Eva particularly off limits, cause reasons?
Let's not pretend it's just H-manga that do this either, let's not forget Angelic Days and other spin offs that pretty much do the same thing with out making the character do the lewds with each other.

Oh how tired this line is. You aware of how many famous MangaKa actually get started doing H-Doujinshi? Plus hardly anything is truly "original" anymore and is constantly borrowing tropes or story elements from just about any and everything.amitakartok wrote:
Seconding this too. They should just write original stories.

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
I suspect this sort of thinking is a result of the extremely oppressive effect that copyright law has had upon human creativity and cultural mythology. It has bred sterile concepts of how storytelling works that are completely detached from all memetic reality. Or maybe it's just me.

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
What, you're referring to what I quoted, or what I said? I mean copyright laws in Japan are pretty lax as is, considering the fact that so much doujinshi is made and sold at Cons both lewd and non-lewd. US copyright law is far more oppressive *cough*Youtube*cough*
But I don't see how copyright law affects story telling so much so then the content.
My main complaint is the line "Just write original stories" is put out there so casually, as if it's something so easy to do. Even if you somehow make something "original" doesn't mean that either A. it's at all interesting or B. that anyone will even notice it if you're starting out fresh. Make it seem like people don't appreciate fanworks and the things that can from it, including original works.

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
I bolded part of the quoted text, but I guess it doesn't stick out enough. I was responding sympathetically to your own sentiment.
No doubt there are problems with my hypothesis and it requires much more vigorous testing. It's probably based a fair amount around my experiences schooling to be an illustrator. The relationship between art and the law would come up time and time again. Being "original" enough to secure copyright protection for yourself, and not so "derivative" that you're inviting a lawsuit from someone else, is absolutely crucial. (Unless you work in satire, in which case you're golden.) What, well, where exactly lay the line between "original" and "too derivative"? Anything you might conceivably do, something identical or similar has probably already been done and slapped with someone's copyright. Existing as a creative mind in a world where the public domain is seldom ever allowed to grow and flourish... kinda bites.

What I have of Saigado's Eva work is in the top tier of my favorite Eva hentai.
I don't know which is the result of the other, but, I join you in wishing to change them both.

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
Amen to that, I've dl'd some translated versions but I' trying to buy legitimate copies at my local anime con to support the artist. So far I have the first two F-Nerds, the first R-lab and M-bastion. Hoping this year I can get R-Lab CS, and probably Asuka 28
Ah okay, and yeah I forgot about that to, that in trying to be original you find out what you made is in itself not as original as you thought it was.
Reminds me of this 12 part series I was watching on youtube, of "The Asterisk War Sucks" and in the final part of it, it's compared to an eerily similar show (Chivalry of a failed Knight) that aired on the same day in the same time slot, with a similar number of episodes and both being light novel adaptations.
But this has been getting a little off topic.
You can't venture outside of a series source material and expect everyone will treat the characters the same way. and saying you "die a little inside" "proud to not be one of them" is just ugh.. so melodramatic it's not even funny.
Even the series license holders don't take it That seriously.

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
I'd rather see a sequel to C-Freak myself.
...oh, what the FUCK.
What I meant is, I have no problem with fanworks. What I have a problem with is using a brand name without actually having the brand's content behind it, AKA the "in name only" phenomenon.
*inhale*I may only be writing fanfiction right now, but I do have ideas for original stories and I do intend to get them written once I stop procrastinating on the matter. They aren't 100% original, I admit, but I found that walking my own path is more up to my speed than constraining myself to work within an established framework and trying to do so under an existing brand name would be a Shinji-esque insult to myself because it'd imply that all I can do is bastardize someone else's work.[/rant]

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
If you're wanting to adhere to the brand content that strictly, why even bother treading outside the source material. And lot of the time the brand's content wouldn't allow for a lot of things.
Nobody HAS to keep the brand name's content behind it if they're using likeness or characters in making a fanwork, or even in official licensed stuff either. Sometimes you get a lot of great stuff out of it. I haven't watched it but I hear the MLP .MOV series is well liked and is very far removed from the source material being well, made more a mature audience.
As for bastardizing content, don't worry, sometimes people will do it to their own works. *cough*GerogeLucas*cough*

That just might be one of the most horrifyingly glorious Eva-based things I have ever seen! Do you have any more??

NOT FROM EVANGELION:

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
Reading a Eva doujin is a mixed bag for me. What's importaint to me are good art styles, and jeah that the characters are portrayed properly and that the stories have a good ground for making them interessting and having its charm.
My first doujin was A one to A seven from Izurumi. The story might have its purpose, though still amusing.
My favorite doujin is RETAKE from Kimigabuchi, because of its interessting focus as being a sequel to NGE and EoE.

lily liver wrote:the most persistent thing that bothers me when i see them/stumble on them/flip through one out of curiosity is that it usually never really features a character from the series. they look the same, but is it really the same character? i get it, its someones fantasy, but it bothers me on a deeper level that the characters barely resemble their official-canon counterparts in how they would act, or what sort of situation they would put themselves in. i've only actually taken the time to read one of them, which was Re-Take, and it treated the characters pretty faithfully. they still had depth, they still had their general strengths and weaknesses, struggles, insecurities, and so on. most of them i see appear to replace the subject characters' entire personality with one solitary attribute, which is that for some reason they are sex crazed, because the genre demands it. maybe i'm weird for feeling this way, but when i'm browsing some hentai gallery and i scroll past a hentai pic or doujinshi page of Asuka or Rei or Shinji behaving in a way that completely betrays their original character in a really shallow and baseless way, i die inside just a little bit.
what is your opinion on this?
If this was just regular doujins I would agree, but you're not supposed to read hentai for the plot, dude. Think about it: would you judge "Lord of the Rimjobs XXX: Chodo's two towers" for its fidelity to the LOTR universe and Frodo's character arc within? No, because that's not the intent. Porn is supposed to titillate first and foremost, everything else is superfluous and treated as such. Just because it's Japanese doesn't make it more intellectual. I've not read retake but I do know you should be astounded that it's not just 40 pages of tentacle monsters suddenly invading Misato's Katsuragi with no context whatsoever. Maybe you're technically right, but you're looking for characterization in the wrong place.

Re: The problem with Evangelion hentai doujinshi
You do realize that most fan-produced stuff sold at conventions in Japan can only be sold due to special copyright-related arrangements such as one-day-licensing* etc.?
* does not apply to second-hand goods, which can include new products.
Most copyright take-downs on Youtube are due to companies protecting their commercial interests, and those include Japanese companies. In some cases, companies go overboard and try to forbid fanworks, which in my opinion is a way of saying "we only care about our money and are not worth your attention".

When I searched this doujinshi stuff a few years ago what I remember hating the most about it is clearly people embraced the creepy things about Rei Ayanami that Anno was making a comment on. It was basically all her being a subservient doll.
I bet a lot of those doujinshi writers loved Rei Q in 3.0 & really ran with that version of the character.

Alright rule 34 I can get
But doujinshi? Plot? A full skit
Also EVA characters besides Asuka arent rule 34 worthy in my opinion.
Why is this even a discussion?
