My wife and I have been approved and so are now on a register to provide temporary housing for refugees (the approval was a tad slower than expected simply because of an increase in the number of applicants offering help).

RML: Well, the Emperor of Japan is in my town now for a state visit. Just came here to mend fences.

FML: some fucking overkill idiot in Customs opened up the Emperor's diplomatic bag despite the Japanese Embassy official warning him not to do so, and against International law.

Yeah. I first noticed it around 10 pm CST, and I knew it was working around 7:30. Chrome said it was a connection error or something. I wouldn't worry about it It was probably something out of your control.

Received my Class D Security Certificate in the state of Florida today! Now I just need to head to the state designated office tomorrow to formally get the license. I have finally taken a step to get out of Walgreens towards ANYTHING better!

Instead of merely warning Customs, they should have sent them a katana, so they'd have known the Japanese embassy official was truly serious.

Tickets acquired to see Black Sabbath in September with my nephew. Absolutely Stoked, and its only a mere 7 months out  It cost me a pretty good chunk of cash, but it's the final tour and seeing as they are the fathers of metal and a big influence on a lot of my own nuances in my own guitar riffs, it's a must for me.

Sick and tired of the toxic comments about presidential candidates on a couple of sites belonging to local broadsheets, I decided to do the right thing: using uBlock to shut off disqus.com.

Then I experienced peace. No more noise.

RML: Finally stuffed the last of that 17.9GB Witcher 3 patch into my PS4's new hard drive. :D

FML: Next up is 41GB of World of Tanks, which will be split up over the next 2 or 3 months. :scared:

After falling into complacency with my workout routines, I've stepped them up by increasing my reps and am seeing gains again, or so I assume by just how REKT my muscles feel afterwards.

Finally got a bit lucky with picking up vintage shmups for my Saturn, and managed to eliminate 1/3rd of my wants list in about a month, including some really good titles.

It's going to be satisfying watching our generation's smug nostalgia evaporate once the first grandkid says "What the hell is a Nintendo 64?" followed by "Wow that's soooooo like retarded" and then uploads his consciousness to the Master Brain to tweet his high score on the Oculus Rift 360 Brain Plug remake of Birdman starring Christian Bale's preserved brain stem.

This post reminded me that gamers who started gaming in the 7th console generation or later are lucky, they will never be forced to play a game that has actual bad graphics. And that makes me very happy.

It's already happening. My first console was a PS1, and only by a couple years. All my favorite nostalgic games are for the PS2, other than FFIX. The original Pokemon on Gameboy is the other exception. Games much older than that simply aren't appealing.

I mourn the slow death of pixel art. It's often as much a puzzle as a means of expression, and that's why I love it.

For example, here's a recreation of SNES/Saturn Megaman X3's Toxic Seahorse stage that work on a NES rom (with some layout changes to account for the standard mega man game engine's screen scroll mechanics) that I did as part of a demonstration on 8bit graphics:

If this makes it harder for them to enjoy the less graphically potent games of old then it's their loss. Personally, I hate the 7th generation for its abundancy of first person shooters.

Agree. There's tons of older games that have interesting game mechanics that trump the lack of high-def graphics. And sometimes it is just depressing to see games with excellent graphics that have physics engines that are so bad that much older games give a much better experience, gameplay-wise, simply because the designers got the physics right.

Furthermore, older games tend to lack multi-gigabyte patches to fix problems that really ought to have been caught by QA before release. And there's no "always online" requirement or stupidly annoying copy protections.
