Writing a Greasemonkey script is something that pretty much anyone can do (as in "anyone can code").

The original was unselective mainly because I used myself as a test subject.

The change in how the pages are structured between phpBB 2.x and 3.x is sufficiently great that all that can be salvaged from the original is the idea of

for each post -- get author name, and hide if on the blacklist, else for each quote within the post, do similar
for each PM on the index page -- get author name, and hide if on the blacklist (there is a DoS attack lurking there)
for each name in the "who is online/viewing the forum" -- get name, and hide if on the blacklist

They aren't blocked but they are color-coded so you can ignore them easily.

I wouldn't keep mentioning the PM thing if mentally ignoring them was good enough. The black bar obviously doesn't do anything to keep me from seeing the PM titles and sender. I'd find it quite useful to have back, if it's all the same to you guys. :p

Blocking a moderator, at the end of the day, is just another form of not listening to them-- and we all know what happens when we don't listen to moderators. The only person losing anything is the person running the script, since they'll get the consequences without knowing why they're being handed down.

It would take someone other than me to do it, but perhaps an option in the friend/foe menu to decide if things are spoilered/coded or just plain blocked? That way people can have different levels of DO NOT WANT.

I know some forums have Friend/Foes, but other than the Foes section putting people on Ignore, what exactly does Friends do? Alert you if they post, or just quicker to send em PMs?

Giving it a spin and I don't believe it's yet "done" anything with the handful of people I added.

Great question. I added Reichu and Monk Ed to my list but I don't understand the exact purpose of it or its functions either. Does it mean any posts that your "friends" make, you'll get an instant notification or something?

It's not, though. This isn't a default part of the software, so you're asking someone to research and write the code themselves. In Dima's case he's also asking for assistance in ignoring a member of the staff, so . . . yeah.

In my experience throught various forums so far, i only found it to be more of a nominal thing with no apparent use beyond ease of PMs.

On the matter of Dima, i can't help thinking we might be making a bit too much air on the matter on something that ultimately shouldn't be too difficult to find a mutually satisfying solution to. It is true that NemZ is apparently one of the only two common enforcers at the moment, but accomodating his desires wouldn't really come at much of a cost beyond taking a bit more time in talking to him if necessary, or tacitly accepting NemZ (or anyone else) would have to make some quick banning or whatever before being able to communicate with him.

While personally i don't mind NemZ at all and doubt i'll ever use the foe function, the community here is so toxic and unproductive that i can see why someone might want to be able to filter out some members, even staff. Unfortunately, some of NemZ's and other members posts only further justified Dima's position in my eyes.

^ Im just going to ask this, you seem to hate us and this place so much so why do you keep coming back here?
The only thing you ever seem to say when you do is how much you hate this place, this isn't adding anything to the discussion nor the forum, if you have issues then its fine but seriously either leave or stop with the eternal "this community is shit" talk.

Dream's probably explained his angle before, but I can't remember where offhand. There's probably a post or two of his in the "arguments... how egf is doing them wrong" thread elsewhere in Feedback.

Do you even know Dima's reasons for blocking the people he blocks?

Honestly, nothing about this community is more toxic than your complaints about same. I'll even include Donut and Tankred there, since they obviously want to be part of the community even if I disagree with their approach (and by that I mean it's obvious they want to contribute, even if I have personal friction with them). But you? You hate the community, and yet all you do is complain about it. If want to be a part of it, adapt and do what you can to contribute. If you don't, move on and leave us alone. All you're doing now is spewing hateful bile that doesn't do anyone any favors.

And no, Dima's position is not justified, because he's asking for assistance in violating basic forum rules. That's not justified by definition.
