And so, I hope he gets the chance to say what he has to say. If he's denied that chance for whatever reason I hope someone else can bring it to light, both for his sake and for ours.

Well said Bags.
I’ll escape now from this world, from the world of Jean Valjean, Jean Valjean is nothing now! Another story must begin!

If Anno dies before Shin comes out, I have no doubt that the basic path of the movie was known to people other than himself. While I don't think his early death would affect our ability to see a version of the last Evangelion movie that is at least partially the way Anno intended it to be, it would certainly be a shame if he wasn't able to see his project to the last.

If Anno died, first of all the forum would have to wear black for at least a year or so.

For the last movie, I'm not sure what would happen - I don't know if we had a similar situation like Satoshi Kon's Dream Machine, where there's just not sufficient funding and Kon being too much of an auteur for it ever to be finished.

And for Khara, it might mean they'd have to close doors sooner or later, or "go to sleep" like what happened to Ghibli without their figure head.

All of those events would be very sad and a great loss for humanity.

(I'll return to the thread to answer this one post.)

View Original PostRay wrote:Isn't it sad that we're so selfish?

We're not concerned about Anno as a human being dying, we're concerned about his creations not being completed. A 'what have you done for me?" mentality.

Yes, this. When Satoshi Kon died, I felt sadder than I ever expected for that man. Not the saddest I've ever felt for a human being dying, mind you, (Hell, some tragic shit has happened to my friends that even Shakespeare would be surprised at,) but still sadder than I thought I would be. The news came outta nowhere for me, happened to a relatively young man (40's is too young to be dying), and he had left behind his grieving friends and family in the process. His body of work was the only way that I was able to connect with the man, and even that left a very distinct impact on me as to what kind of person this man may be like. I felt like I knew certain aspects of him that I wouldn't have known of most other filmmakers without needing to watch a documentary or hear an audio commentary, and it was all just from watching his movies. When I heard that he had passed away, I was sad that this man, a man who thought these things and felt this way, had died. It wasn't until after I heard of his death that I found out that he was working on a now un-finished film. And, yes. I did want to see that film. Hell, I still want to see that film, even if it's in its unfinished form. I want to see it because I want to see the last filmic words of a dying artist, and what he was trying to say to us. I didn't want to see it because I was selfish or anything. My interest was purely in the sense of "I'm here, Kon-san. What is it?"

I feel the same would be the case of Anno had died. Heck, if he dies before finishing Shin Eva, the only thing I'd want to pick up from him, entertainment-wise, would be the script he left behind. I don't care about the movie. Hell, I'll watch EoE at the end of Eva Q. I'll even watch Godzilla Resurgence as the follow-up to Eva Q. It doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is what this man wanted to tell us in his last days on Earth. And, if for some reason, he wanted to keep his last days on Earth private, to keep his last filmic thoughts locked away from us forever, that's fine too. It doesn't matter to me. I'll still support the work of Khara. I'll still support the work of Moyoco. I'll sob reading his obituaries. This would be my grieving process to the news of a death of one of my favorite living filmmakers. It won't be some rage about his unfinished works never being released, and it certainly won't be about how the world is better off without him. It'll be about his family, his friends, and his legacy. In that order. That is all.

Good day to this thread, sir.

Apparently Kon chosen to be silent about his cancer or whatever happened, can't remember, regardless I like to think everything he did prepared him for death and just spent some time with himself or people he cared about.

I would hope more people would be upset with his death than 3.0+1.0 not coming out. What a morbid, dark thread.

Pretty sure people rolled their eyes and never overreacted or posted (oh xsomething's post was so provocative), others just have to assume something's wrong with people to have stuff to bitch about. All the time.

Wow, I don't look on this forum for a few months and suddenly people are wondering what would happen if Anno died. These times sure be crazy!
But don't worry, Khara and Anno have probably built some secret Magi-like supercomputer that could decide the best directorial choices in Anno's absence.

Speaking plainly, there's a greater likelihood that someone who posted in this thread - myself included - will die before Final comes out then Anno.

Either way, speculating about a person's death simply in connection to "Will I get to see a movie or not" is pretty shameful. There doesn't seem to be much to add to this conversation.

Not least because I'm fourteen years older than him! He's only seven years older than my first child. But I'm still confident that I will see his next two films at the very least.

Dragonball sucks.
Not saying you are wrong but mhe he's just trying to nerd with people.
Like, Idk, manifesting love in public to a cool girl will make people jealous while horrible ones will make people puke. You don't see it in real life because that'd be stupid and wouldn't make those around you shine.
The op could've asked about Anno's heritage and f4 would write nerd rants the op never went for. Or at least I want to give the benefit of the doubt to teens since they are dumb

The film would still be released regardless and of course in his memory.

But unless something bad happens, Anno will be okay. He is not that old.
