You could alter that any which way you want just for the sake of the story. In fanfiction, almost nothing is sacred.

Incorrect. If you're going to move the Black Moon the only legitimate options are Ethiopia, Israel, or Armenia or something.

What, like...more than placing the source of all humanity underneath a suburb of Tokyo?

Honestly, if you're going to move the Black Moon...who cares where you move it? Move it to Canada, for all I care: if it's good for the story, it's good for the story.

StarShaper7, it's funny you should mention that, because that was my original plans for Someplace Vast and Dry before it started changing early on. The goal was to get the whole Ikari clan out to Iran or Saudi Arabia (as this was the location of the Black Moon), and have them adapt to being in a completely foreign country while fighting this otherworldly invasion. That's still KIND of the goal, but I'm less interested in that than seeing where the story takes itself.

It would be interesting if Shinji happened to be a fan of a TV show that the target audience is little kids or girls. Definitely not meant for his age group and/or gender. The show helps him get away from his problems, even for a little while, and this is discovered in some way, probably by Asuka. Hilarity and perhaps even some touching moments ensue.

A story with the Black Moon in neutral territory and all the world powers scheming to get control of it would be neat. Set it in the 60's and make the main character a sexy, sassy female scientist out to prove herself to her sexist peers.

Starring Ritsuko as said sexy, sassy female scientist and Kaji as the 007-type secret agent trying to make her yet another one of his Kaji girls.

That said, there is nothing keeping one from moving Lilith's body somewhere else in the world, to divide and confuse the Angels.

Has anyone done a story where the Angels have some strategy or whatnot? Coordinating attacks, retreating, taking out Eva production plants, massacring populations in France or whatever to lure Evas away from the Black Moon...

Or perhaps some form of crossover with Bustgunner, since I can easily see the... what's the phrase used? Galactic antibodies? being Fruit of Life beings.

There is nothing obvious about your reasoning. It seems completely arbitrary to me.

Honestly, that one makes less sense than any of them. Yes, that's where humans originated, but it's not where life originated, which is rather more relevant given Lilith's role in the whole affair.

Anno already threw that out the window with the original story, so I can't see how setting it anywhere else is any different.

And as far as we're aware, life did not originate on the Japanese archipelago either.

So in that case, the Black Moon should rightly be sitting on the ocean floor... except no ocean floor on Earth is that old, due to plate tectonics destroying the old ocean floor via subduction and consequently sinking the Black Moon too deep into the planet's crust to be accessible with current human technology.

The only loophole I can think of is the Black Moon having once been located in the segment of the Tethys seafloor that became the Himalayas. Which would be a nice reference to Mount Olympus in Greek mythology.

i) You don't know that that's not where life originated.
ii) Human life is the fulfilment of Lilin, it'd be natural for it to emerge in the area of Lilith's and her LCL's greatest influence.

I think the point that Bagheera is trying to make is that while human life looks to have originated in those regions (specifically Africa), saying that the Black Moon can ONLY be placed in those areas is absurd, because the Black Moon isn't the source of just human life, but ALL life, and there is no determining where that came from.

In canon, however, it's in Japan. So, if canon says all life came from Japan, then there's no reason why the Black Moon can't be placed ANYWHERE ELSE on Earth.

Life originated in the oceans, so yeah, I kinda do. I don't know exactly where, but I know it wasn't on land (during the Archean eon, when life emerged, that part of Africa was likely landlocked).

So, the Amazon basin, then.

But of course that's silly as well, since Lilith arrived four billion years ago. The Earth was very, very different then. Making assumptions about what happened then based on modern biodiversity is comically absurd.

Also, what Gob said.

I'd like to see an Evangelion Fanfic that blends continuities to an extent.

A fanfic that starts out like Angelic Days or The Shinji Ikari Raising Project. Wacky Harem Hijinks, highschool life. But progressively becomes more and more bleak and like the Canon Evangelion as the story goes on.

Shinji grows up with Yui and Gendo, unaware of the project to protect the world they are working on, and has a relatively healthy home life up to that point. But becomes more depressed and unhappy after his mother dies in a mysterious accident involving the project, and his father starts shutting him out, and then he's drafted against his will into piloting the machine that will save the world.

Yui raises Shinji, but still ends up dying and becoming one with Unit 01.

Gendo starts out as wacky!Gendo, but after losing Yui shuts Shinji out and becomes more like his Canon counterpart.

Rei Starts out as less weird pale moe alien girl, and more like her character in the spinoff Mangas. But as the story goes on becomes creepier and more alien, like her Canon counterpart.

Misato is a friend of the Family, and Shinji's teacher, and takes Shinji in when he's still grieving for the loss of his mother.

Asuka be Shinji's childhood friend like Angelic Days. But has a similar history to her Canon counterpart, dead mother, a prodigy, a crush on Kaji. Like Shinji, is also drafted into NERV against her will.

Just a few Ideas to knock around.
I’ll escape now from this world, from the world of Jean Valjean, Jean Valjean is nothing now! Another story must begin!

All the setup in the world is pointless unless there's a payoff. What is such a fic supposed to say to the reader?
