Not enormously surprised. Dawkins has something of a history of cringeworthy statements.

Oh, for sure. But IMO he comes across as a huge jerk (is that really the image he wants to give off, as a man of science?) because of such.

You do realize that many of those affected are single, right? Or people involved in open relationships who aren’t cheating at all? I recall one case (perhaps mentioned here? Can’t recall) of a guy from Saudi Arabia who used it to meet people while he was working abroad. And of course, since he was gay secrecy was very important to him, what with homosexuality being a capital crime in Saudi Arabia and all. So when the leaks came out he had to flee the country and get an emergency visa to stay in the U.S. lest he be executed by his own government. But I’m sure he totally had it coming, right?

There’s nothing ethical about these leaks. That’s just a bullshit excuse to indulge in mayhem at others’ expense. It’s fine to say you have no sympathy, but my question is this: what business is it of ours, anyway?

S' pretty dumb, I concur. Sex bots are going to happen, opposition or no. Porn (and sex, of course) drive everything in some capacity.

If we die because people are too lazy to seek proper partners and actual relationships then humans deserve to be extinct, frankly i couldn't care less as i will be long dead by then but i think you are overestimating the effects these things will have.

Besides if i was a genius with robotics one of the first things i would do with these new models is try to give them a sense of self, see if i could replicate a "soul" not for any reason, just simply because i could as the concept of a robot turned human has always interested me.
