His shirt's loose at the back, and there's a shadow of his lower body (and the image is very dark there, so you can hardly see the distinction). I don't think his back's out of order at all.

Now that is something I would've LOVED to have in the series, Shinji doing something special for Asuka's birthday, even for just a meal. Such small acts would go a long way. :)

Who's wrong? Me? Everything I remember from figure drawing flashed red when I saw that fan-art. I think Shinji's neck is too short, or something. It's a really weird effect and has me internally screaming "hunchback!" when I see your posts now. Probably not what you were going for!

What you might be seeing as the line of his back is actually his far shoulder, thrown back by his pose. Yes, his head's also pushed eagerly forward as far as it goes, but I think it's still OK if you parse the image correctly.

When I started learning to draw manga about 2.5 yrs ago I had to unlearn almost everything I learned about human anatomy... >_>
