Does it count as controversial when I see people post this every year.

What show is that for the non moon-rune readers amongst us, Tines? Looks like something I might enjoy.

The Magical Girl + SoL series Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru I think; he's mentioned it before, in his blog perhaps, and I put it on my list.

^Yeah, Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de aru is probably the only series that started in the last twelve months that I honestly liked.

I do feel like the selection of anime has been a bit bare on the ground recently. Last year we had some decent shows like Kill la Kill but this year there's only been YuYuYu and most of the rest of the stuff I've seen like Terror in Resonance, Psycho-Pass 2 and Fate UBW has been lukewarm at best.

I always thought I might be bad
Now I know that it's true
Because I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you

What if there were a web service that could identify an image? What if there were sites that listed anime series for at least the last 18 months (the period under discussion) with their promo images?

I have my browser set up so that I can simply right-click an image and choose to search for it in Google, Saucenao, Bing, TinEye, Yandex, and a number of other places. That's what I did above.
Example -   SPOILER: Show

And that attitude being common on open source software forums is what gets them such a bad reputation. There is a balance to be found.

It's pretty much replaced tineye or iqdb for that sort of thing (unless you specifically know the image is on one of the boorus) -- drag the image and drop it on the page just under the text box.

If you do watch YuYuYu, be aware that it's actually part of a multimedia project, and you should also track down the prequel LN Washio Sumi ha Yusya dearu* that came out at the same time as the anime (watch an episode, read a chapter). The most obvious fan translation also contains a bonus and an epilogue chapter that should only be read after the final episode. There's also a VN (translated) and a PS Vita game (partially translated), and another VN due with the final BD release in a week's time, but those are purely fan-service, rather than world-building.

The world-building comes in the dense "show, don't tell" of the anime -- which is one of the things that made it quotable to refute the thesis that there had been no good new series in the past year (and some of it is then spelled out in the LN, just in case -- consider it the "Classified Information" of the series, only with first-tier canonicity).

*Have fun with the multiple possible romanizations of the titles.

What is the show or manga depicted in the last image (the one to the right)?
"The will to lose one's will?"
"Absolutely. The will to make oneself completely free. Will is the wrong word, because in the end you could call it despair. Because it really comes out of an absolute feeling of it's impossible to do these things, so I might as well just do anything. And out of this anything, one sees what happens."--Francis Bacon

Nah. Oregairu, Sidonia 2.0, Blood Blockade Battlefront, Food Wars, Plastic Memories . . . plenty of good shows this season.

I only enjoy BBB and Punch Line this season, last season was Death Parade and Yuri Kuma.... Next season seems to be pretty dire... Only Gatchaman will be up my alley, from what I can see, unless there is some surprise.

No eye cancer here, as I love it all. Well, I'm not a fan of the effect used for dissolving placenta, but apart from that it's all good.

Assuming they have the guts to play it straight instead of wimping out and finding a way for her to live, yes. Fingers are crossed.

Ooh, new Gatchaman? Neat! I hope. That might be pretty strange, now that I think about it.

Yeah, I'm pretty stoked, it's the same staff, after all. It seems that this time the theme will be one's place in a society that has given up being one. Besides that I'm more than ready for more Hajime in a show infused with Kenji Nakamura's frantic energy.

Oh, and that I am a Hajime fanboy is my controversial opinion of the day. :shifty:

But is Hajime still Hajime? I got the feeling she'd become someone completely different at the end there.

For me the issue is more that Hajime has become Berg Katse. But we'll see what happens. If Hajime is still Hajime with bonus Berg Katse action! it should make for a fun second season.
