Not really a poem but too short to be considered a story.

BLACK SQUARE

Black square in the back of my mind keeps growing, getting bigger and bigger until it hollows out my head. I'm seeing things in my peripheral that I know can't be there. It's so stupid; today I even tried to pray although I knew no one was listening besides them.

Frantic, twitching rapid eye movements. Unexplainable things have happened here. And I can feel it all reaching to a boil. The inaudible whispers get louder and louder. I can feel something constantly watching, waiting for any sign of weakness that I might show so it can attack when I'm at my most susceptible, dragging me beyond the visible spectrum into the dark inbetween. I hear a noise. A low frequency rumble that makes my eardrums vibrate. A hungry sound.

When they find my body, I don't want to just get chalked up as another twenty something suicide. I need people to know there was a war in this tiny apartment on 352 Crescent street. A war which, if you're reading this, I obviously didn't win. I need people to know that in the winter, the days aren't nearly long enough when you combat the night. I need you to know that if you put enough belief in your fears, they can literally come to life and eat you alive.

Like the moon over
the sea, my genius and brawn
are lost on these fools.

Yeah, I jacked this off from Super Mario RPG......but it's the only way I remember how to form a haiku, so fuck it.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

@Dataprime That was good. Maybe something a little bet lengthier next time? No rush -o-;

@Kazuki Nice job. You should consider expanding into a longer format.

@Guy Plagiarism nets you 0 points in my book. :P Haikus aren't even difficult, look:

Ad Principessam Lunæ

1. A blue dress is taut,
stiff, and crinkling.
Where I am it’s known not,
a sad state of being.

2. Taut is this as well,
a bit sweeter, despite
the trembling almost as hell.
The cool heat within white.

3. But what is even tauter
is your motions and their anima.
To not see the thoughts they offer
the eastern savior’s pure, heißt lamia.

4. And I know you cry beyond your heart
and within, but remember that Heaven bled.
If we forget the wish and wist, in that part
let us at least have had near-perfection, what so briefly we said.
~ibi cubávit Lamia, et invénit sibi reiquiem~

Time moves only forward like a river
Like a ticking clock that will stop one day
Every end has a beginning
Every beginning has an end
Life becomes death
and death becomes life
My story also has a beginning, middle and a end
As our hopes and dreams turn into darkness
This light shins no more.

Hahaha I wrote this in college and I just found it on my hard drive.

Necropolis

cities are different

termite mounds
rabbit warrens
beehives

die and go to earth

cities of men
necropoleis

die and fester
old buildings
old bones
old roads
old skins

dried, peeling, dread

cities of men are dead

darkness on bodies of cities
funeral soil

seeds in soil

grow and grow
mind to heart
heart to mind
mind to dark
soil again

Lights and lights
are sick too

girls, girls, girls
cash for gold

sick churches
dead lights

zombies in the dark
rolling bones

colored chips
swaying hips

walk of boards
boards are bones
bone-white
the cruiser rumbles
down the walk

drub drub drub

no one looking out
no one looking in
dead lights on windows
dead lights outside

the light of the sun
dies on the moon

pieces of eight
pieces of ass
callow marks
not worth the time

serve and protect
protect who

from what

on the sea out there
the dark waits like glass
it will always be

I'll stick to prose.
the prophecy is true

Statistical fact: Cops will never pull over a man with a huge bong in his car. Why? They fear this man. They know he sees further than they and he will bind them with ancient logics. —Marty Mikalski

I remember those eyes.
The colour of the sky, clear and free
Not clouded by pain
Or shadowed by doubt
Nor lifeless marbles
Coldly killing time.

No, they were alive, those eyes
And I would have sworn by my right hand
By dead gods, the fantasies of a forsaken child
That I could learn to live again
That what was dead could rise
That I could learn to love again
All I had to do was want it.

But those days are over now
Cold winter drains the summer pale.
Perhaps I only dreamt the morning
And woke upon strange twilight shores
Without a soul beside me
With no-one there to guide me
Alone.

But though my body is broken
My mind ruptured beyond repair
Though my heart is a twisted ruin
I will remember
Your eyes
The colour of the sky, clear and free.

I always thought I might be bad
Now I know that it's true
Because I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you

Lighting as blue as water
Flashes before my eyes
The rain is so bitter cold
As my beating heart slows
With the sound of thunder
This sky is dark, yet familiar
My hands stretch out with boredom
As I sit down to watch the rain fall

I'm new, been drinking, and just wrote this. Feel free to be critical.

reflection

I look into myself
I see rejection
murky and freezing
it flows in waves
I am consumed.

An obsidian sea
I tread it
my head peaking from a swell
to catch a breath
only to sink.

I tumble in the tide.
the darkness covers me
I don't know what to do
I fail.

My vision clouded
I see only black
immersed in the abyss
the cold stings
I am numb.

I feel nothing
I want to escape
what I see inside of myself
terrifies me.

I want
to remove this inky vision.
it is rooted deep
I need help.

Others see me
grinning
they reach in
I can't see them
they touch me
they feel no life
I can't feel them
I can't feel anything.

I try to forget
what I see
It's impossible
the fear
the hatred
inside of my self
works its way out
it becomes me.

Tears flow
they join the darkness
enrich its hold
the tears stop
they never return.
the darkness deepens.

flout and bell
the grapes of wrath;
the fruit of loins, untested,
so unmarred by swaying currents
of the virtuous corruptors
and the cruel gentility of others...
yes!
Display to all, thine righteous indignation swell
And feeble-minded loutish ones shall crumble at the sight
of prolix banter, flee from abstract thought, abscond,
Make haste,
So leave the coil to suppurate
and putrefy within
Magnanimous intentions
To expose, try, judge, and fell
All that which spurs
To bleed its venomous, foul nectar
From the ulcerated mouth,
A self-devouring, primrose coffin
Hermetically ajar-
It runneth over, so, alas, clouting the mind
With utmost diligence, and
By no one's grace
Floating on flames of providence,
A funeral pyre, expectant matushka:
Conceive the inconceivable,
Imperceptibly perceptive
Un-begotten, foolish, wisdom
baffled in its code, inert
Metronome, auxiliary consciousness,
Locomotionless

I wrote this sonnet for a school project. It's about the book Winesburg, Ohio.

It is your love I need, Ned please don’t leave
Currie, Oh please don’t leave me here alone
You acted like it was set in stone
And now if Ned comes he will not want me
I’m so lonely it’s like I’m under sea
I don’t blame you, for my youth has been thrown
Cause of you, I don’t recognize my home
My fear grows that I will never marry
But I can’t help falling in love with you
It feels like I’m going down a dark drain
And it feels like I am stuck in this store
There are so many things that I can’t do
But now I am caught in this cleansing rain
I feel like there is light behind this door
[/i]
We are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

Lots of good stuff here, folks; keep it coming

upside-down smile

She is wearing an upside-down Smile,
Listlessly lingering,
Impotent crown.

There is beauty in Sadness, said the Madman,
So they furiously cast upon him their hate;
Mouth and mind heavy, left but dead to himself.

She'll be wearing the upside-down Smile,
Inextricably tied,
Sealed, Stamped, Signed,
and Carbon-dated by rigorous measures,
deviating degrees of certainty
may only extrapolate
Where and when, how and why;
At the favored boutique,
For a meager expense by and down
Hasty markings of quill-tips,
Where the fashion resides in embalmed beauty rest,
Anyone can summon the sloom
of derision.

There is Fear in your madness, said the Madman,
So, once more, they did castigate, in blindness,
And exiled him thus, far away from himself.

She was wearing an upside-down Smile when they found her
Dressed in skin for the season;
Where the blue meets the red, seeping forth crimson,
And did flow on so gently now onwards-
bent around at the neck, painted choker;
Gossamer canvas, sanguine creation,
At behest of its artist, Monochromatic.
Picturesque thanatopsis;
Pallid veil of the flesh,
draped in sorrow,
Sideways-frozen coryphée,
With her head bowing backwards
Unsupported, hanging outside the frame,
Maiden countenance fitted with only an algid blank stare-
Bloody wings flying off of the bed, to the ground...
Rite of spring, wish fulfilled.

There is freedom in Death, wept the madman,
yet, for once, they agreed.
So they granted him freedom.

Freedom wears an upside-down Smile

Do you love me
The question is asked
but he doesn't know
if his feelings are true
the boy must search
but where, but how
only the heart knows
yet the heart will not answer
thus the boy must find a new way
to the question
Do you love me

The greatest genius

There was once a genius. She was more intelligent than Einstein, Galileo, Copernicus and Newton. Smarter than Pasteur, Faraday, Turing, Socrates, Plato and even Krauss. Well, the last one is debatable, but she worked longer and harder than all of them combined without hyperbole amd with far, far less help. How did she do it? Firstly, she was far less distracted by the sheer fact she lived in a place where there was never, ever anything interesting to do. Secondly, it was her fascination. It didn't matter even if she couldn't think of any practical use for it, she loved it. She was the world's first teacher and what she was teaching was the world's first language. Creating that language puts Newton's creation of calculus, the invention of the printing press and the discovery of the Higgs Boson to shame. The influence it had down the ages is incomparable. She is the mother of every person on Earth. We have everything we have thanks to her despite the fact most people go their entire lives without even thinking of who she might have been.

The hippie and the sociopath

The sociopath sees the beauty and wonder and how special it all is. The hippie is filled with hate and desires to see everyone die a painful death. The sociopath would fight to the death to save the world because he knows there may be no other world. The hippie has desires to see a world where pain and sadness are gone, but would never do anything to achieve it. The sociopath thinks he is stupid, worthless, weak. The hippie thinks he is unlucky, unrecognized, but powerful. The sociopath cries and keeps crying. The hippie charges into battle screaming. They are actually one.

The hippie and the sociopath 2

The sociopath wants nothing more than just to talk with her, see what she's thinking about. The hippie wants to keep the peace at all times, to forgo happiness, to never cause her to be uncomfortable. Plus, the hippie doesn't think anyone would ever accept him. The sociopath can't take it. The sociopath refuses to accept how beautiful she is. The sociopath will not fucking stand for this. Such a perfect person makes him infuriated. But he hopes so much that she realizes it at least.

Identity
I am what I was once
I am what I someday will be
Dancing in spirals, sand grains twisting
Fill me with despair, so that I may be emptier still
I am what you swept away long ago
The ghost that hides under your skin
Under the sea of blood, waiting
Forever believing
That someday
You will say
'I need you'.

Drowning
A dream of drowning
The serenity of the dark blue
Golden word-bubbles tumble past
Yet they can no longer fill my lungs
Make me breathe
I dream the sunset of memories
Painting the water halcyon gold
But here it is cold, bitterly cold
Let me see
The place where I once was
When I still dreamt of joy
Before I filled my pockets with stones
And came here
To drown.
