Live action trailer is available. This is a 1.5 minute version of the 30 second trailer.

I expect some Hanji antics.

Is this supposed to be the same setting? Because, ah, there are an awful lot of Japanese in that trailer, and IIRC Mikasa's the only one in the actual manga.

Hanji has an RPG. They are obviously not gunning for accuracy.

Well it IS a Japanese production- finding the requisite amount of European-looking people who can speak fluent Japanese AND act well is going to be difficult.

Looks surprisingly good though, not gonna lie.

As long as people don't try to compare it to the anime/manga too much, it might actually be decent. Just being honest, I can already tell just from looking at this that I'm going to prefer the manga/anime (no Annie for starters) but that doesn't mean this has to be terrible as a result.

I'm just interested in the effects work in the live action movies because that will be a huge indication of what to expect effects wise in Anno's Godzilla movie.

Limited release dates have been announced for both parts of the live action version.

It's in my local theater so I'll be dropping by this week with my Costco Supersaver passes to save some $.

Meh, they'll have trouble convincing any fans to see it after the films got skewered online and I don't see much appeal to the casual moviegoer either. I can't see them making a profit, much less breaking even on this although a lot of people might show up just to see if it's as bad as they've heard it is.

You abandoned it on that famous epic chapter? Hmm.

Well, lots of shit happened since then, much more in the conversation-esque of things and less action but it's still alright; a couple of interesting twists.[/b]

Still stuck in that stupid fucking crystal. Best girl has been out of action for over half the manga now.

Update: Saw the live action Part 2 2 nights ago so I can put everything all together.

Saw Part 1 on September 30. About 50 people in a 200 person theater, still much better than about the 5 or 6 when I saw Appleseed theatrically in 2004.

Some Funi trailers for upcoming theatrical releases (e.g. Arise, Psycho Pass), then a trailer for the movie before it starts. Shortly after the credits roll is a trailer for Part 2.

Overall the movie is not great but not terrible. It is more enjoyable if you go in knowing that it is a loose adaptation and try to roll with this alternate version instead of overly focusing/getting hung up on what was left out or modified.

For Part 2 on October 20, about 46 people in the same sized theater.

I only like Part 2 a little less than Part 1 since it makes a few more key changes, gets more ridiculous, and will likely piss off more fans of certain characters that weren't already by Part 1. The cast by the end has taken heavy casualties, 1 of them was unexpected. Still I like it more than I do Battle Royale II, and this is spoken as a BR fan.

There is an unanswered question raised early on and a post-credits ending scene that leaves the possibility for more open, but less than a handful of people in my theater stuck around to see this scene.

Saw part 1. Holy fuck, was that awful. Mikasa got the refrigerator treatment in the first half, then came back and hooked up with Levi in the second. Levi was all asshole, no cool. And Sasha . . . !

I have zero interest in tracking down the second half, and want a refund on the time wasted watching the first half. What a fucking joke.

Well when adapting something from such a large source material into a movie, SOME things are obviously going to have to be left out for the sake of keeping the running time sane.

That is not what I'm complaining about here.

^If you were already pissed off by Part 1, Part 2 won't make you any happier and likely more pissed with the ending.

I knew from reading the ANN review that this was going to be a loose adaptation, but until you see it you don't realize how loose it is. It is not just a running time issue. The location and time switch are big (i.e. Germany to Japan and the future vs. ~17-18th century) and the characters who do make transition to live action were dramatically changed.

I would like to see the Hangeki no Noroshi miniseries as those cover Hanji and Sasha with some ridiculous training scenes from what I could see from a Vietnamese upload.
