Now that I think about it, Kaworu's fate in all 3 continuities (TV series, manga, Rebuild) involves something happening to his neck. :uhh:

^Oh, my. Crazy in a fun way, I hope?

NEW POST

I posted my sixteenth book review today! This time, it's Neon Genesis Evangelion Sega Saturn Perfect Guide, one of the books that Jäeger requested. It's about two Evangelion video games. The first one, simply entitled Neon Genesis Evangelion, involves Shinji getting amnesia due to an Angel attack, and hilarity ensues as he tries to regain his memory. The other game, 2nd Impression, introduced Evangelion's first meganekko (glasses girl), Mayumi Yamagishi! I hope you enjoy the review!

For my next review, I'll be covering Neon Genesis Evangelion 2nd Impression Bible, a book devoted entirely to 2nd Impression, so you can look forward to seeing even more pictures from the game. ^_^

I always felt sad Mayumi didn't get as much love as Mana. They're both sweet but I'm LAS all the way :asukahearts: IIRC, some fans ship Mayumi/Kensuke and Mana/Musashi (forget his name).

The DVD version of the first game was fun, though I could never clear the battles. Thanks for the reviews! Never understood what choices you needed to make to get the Second Impression Asuka route? I remember the Rei route being sweet. Mayumi and Asuka were sadly alike in their pasts. :(

Yeah, I wish Mayumi had gotten more love. I would have liked to see a bit more of her... not in a shipping way, but as a friend for Shinji and perhaps the others as well. Imagine Mayumi and Rei becoming friends because of their shared love of books!

Hmm, yes, her tragic past did have some similarity to Asuka's. Even though Mayumi wasn't an Eva pilot, she sure had a backstory like one. Those poor kids. :(

Thanks man!!!!! iI was eager to see this. Those game are the forgotten ones because they never felt "canon" (I know it's not the best word) like GOS did. We'll, it has sense......one was made by the series staff, it fits in the chronology, Mana's charisma and Sadamoto's design, the story..... The other two...outsourced, cheap, and full of weirdness, starting from new angels. We could say that the saturn games are alternate continuities (It wouldn't be a lie) and GOS is a good example of what a side story/gaiden for the series : it's official, it takes place in the canonical continuity but is not cannonical. And don't forget GOS was released after the series and just before the movies, when everybody was clear, beginning from the characters and their relationships. . And never forget that the first 2 games were "real" games, with battles and routes, but GOS feels like an OVA turned into a visual novel : your only choice/real action is choosing the ending, which made the game look even more "authentic". The role of Maya in the franchise and expanded universe is the best example.

Ahhhh, Piko Piko is weird and crazy in a fun way. Does "Uresei Yatsura" ring a bell???

^You're welcome! It sure is fun to see some of the wackiness that happened in these games. Heh, it sounds like Piko Piko has a lot of wacky fun as well! Hopefully it will get an English translation! :D

They are wacky because I'm pretty sure they were part of the partnership of SEGA and Gainax to produce the series and they were developed to be released during the broadcast of the anime, so they don't take into account a lot of things. They feel like cheap merchandise (despite their charm) unlike GOS, which was a very polished product, with an story that fits in the series universe (it was released between the series and the movie, so everything was clear) and feels authentic thanks to the series staff. It's not the most popular EVA game by chance (It was released for Windows, MAC, Saturn, PSX, PS2 and PSP) and I don't need to talk about Mana's popularity (present even in Sadamoto's artbooks)

If you want to understand Piko Piko's sense of humor its easy : grab your Evangelion Comic Anthology and read two stories from the same author

I just posted my seventeenth book review! This time, it's Neon Genesis Evangelion 2nd Impression Bible. So if my previous review whetted your appetite for more pictures and information about the 2nd Impression video game, I hope you enjoy this! ^_^

Thanks for the review, this reminded me that the game comes with a CD single (those little CDs) of Mayumi and Asuka's songs.

Mario_Abel: Unfortunately, I don't have the resources to do videos, but thanks for your interest! Also, I like your avatar! :kaworusparkle: :asuka_thumbsup:

AR-99: That's a fun thing to include with a video game. I have the Soundtrack Edition of the 3nd Impact (that's pronounced "Sound Impact", not "Thind Impact" ) game.

Jäeger: Yeah, they're not the greatest songs to come out of the Evangelion franchise, but they're cute. I particularly like the gentleness of Mayumi's song.

I posted my eighteenth book review today! Someone who read my review of the bonus items that come with the Volume 14 Premium Edition (Sadamoto's manga) asked if I could review the Volume 13 Premium Edition extras as well, so that is the subject of today's review: Neon Genesis Evangelion Volume 13 Premium Edition.

Yes, despite my claims that I won’t bother with doing reviews for manga series that are already available in English, this is my second time reviewing something from the Sadamoto manga. But I only discussed the bonus items that come with the Premium Edition, not anything about the plot. The extra goodies for this volume are very nice!

I agree in preferring the v13 extras to the v14 ones. But I have to say that I prefer the original cover image to the premium one in both cases... Still, I get the proper ones on the Viz copies, so I'm happy.

OLD POST

Yeah, I also like the regular Volume 13 cover more than the Premium one. The regular one looks so much more interesting and exciting. For Volume 14, though, I have trouble deciding which one I like better... I think the regular cover with Shinji in the snow is very beautiful, but the Premium one with all five Eva pilots is really cool. (I have a fondness for pictures of all the pilots together.) Basically, I think the regular Volume 14 cover is more "Awwww... " while the Premium cover is more "Awesome! :D "

NEW POST

I posted my nineteenth book review today! This time, it's Rei: Evangelion Photograph, the first in a series of four books that each focus on a different Eva pilot (Rei, Asuka, Shinji, and Kaworu... hey, why is there no book for Toji?!). The first book is filled with pictures of Rei, and shows them alongside poetry written by none other than Megumi Hayashibara, the voice of Rei!

I hope you enjoy this review of the Rei book. I will be discussing the books for Asuka, Shinji, and Kaworu in my next few reviews, so stay tuned!

^Maybe because he didn't actually drive an Eva?

Or because Touji never got to the same level of being a series icon as the other 3.

^Yeah, that makes sense. Still, I feel a bit bad that Toji didn't get a book. I would have bought it. ^_^

NEW POST

I posted my twentieth book review today! This time, it's Asuka: Evangelion Photograph, the second in a series of four books that each focus on a different Eva pilot (I already reviewed the Rei book last time). The second book is filled with pictures of Asuka, and shows them alongside poetry written by none other than Yuko Miyamura, the voice of Asuka!

NEWER POST (March 20, 2015)

I posted my twenty-first book review today! This time, it's Shinji: Evangelion Photograph, the third in this series of four books that each focus on a different Eva pilot. As you can probably guess from the title, the third book is filled with pictures of Shinji. As for the text, if you've read my reviews of the Rei book and the Asuka book, you might be expecting it to contain poetry written by Megumi Ogata, the voice of Shinji. However, this is not the case. So what does the book do instead? Read the review to find out!

Well, that takes care of the Rei, Asuka, and Shinji volumes of this photograph book series. I will be discussing the Kaworu book in my next review, so stay tuned!
