So it depends, how long Final will be, but I guess 1 1/2 years to 2 years would be a realistic assumption to make. Assuming full production starts somewhere around Anima(tor) Expo has finished, we might see the movie in late 2016 or in 2017.

It was reagarding your post. My question was is there was any specific thing about the production times. I mean that post was 5 posts over me, of course I read it. Duh.
i found something else posted in another old thread regarding someone who could get access to the google calendar of somebody working for/with khara. Maybe you were referencing that. There production (or at least it is wjen first animation production cuts were given to animators for part A of Q) started in sept 2011.
dont be offended, I read your posts :cringe:

Ah, yeah. That could've been the source. But I think there was an interview as well floating around somewhere.

Don't worry. It was not meant as harsh as it seemingly was conveyed. Might have been due to the lack of emoticons. I certainly don't read every post, so I can understand, that you sometimes miss stuff. But if you've read it, it's cool too.

Don't know which interview it was, but when Anno said the 6 year thing, it seemed he was joking a little.
In my opinon, you should take time for a production, but not too much, because you might get disconnected from the work (maybe?).

Also thx Trigger.

Edit: I could be wrong, but I think they don't mean the pre production. Just animating (the Trigger guy talking about this is talking about animating the film).
So script, designs, even storyboards could be done or being worked on.

So, is it confirmed that it's never been in production?

There are various stages of film production.

EGF Twitter apparently got replies (about the FINAL not in production tweet) from @dankanemitsu himself (Khara's in-house translator, he's been mentioned on the forums before), but they don't show up when I look at the timeline. Not sure if they were deleted or just a glitch, so for reference:

Actually Ikuto Yamashita has talked about having already spent months working on Eva 4 on Twitter.

I think the meaning of the expression, "in development" is open to question.

And I remember Anno saying at a university he visited (it's a sticky post somewhere) that he was rewriting the film again and again. Pre-production 100% confirmed. ^_^

What counts as post production in animation films? I know that sometimes the VAs will dub the work while the animation isn't completely finished. So I don't know if that counts. Maybe we won't have to wait that long for Eva 4?

Yamashita is usually involved in the design stages and he has been doing the usual workplace tweets like complaining about the air conditioning in the studio and staying late, and praising fridays quite regularly.

He also did this tease:
http://forum.evageeks.org/thread/16623/Not-actual-news-thread/

Presumably that's some reference book of designs on his shelf.

As for what counts as post-production, nothing really. Post-production is a thing only useful in filming where actual physical filming with actors and editing/effects/whatever else are done afterwards.

When it comes to animation you only have the pre-production/design/scripting/storyboarding at which point the film is already roughly edited because they need to know ahead of time how much effort each cut needs down to a frame count. Once full animation production strats it stays that way pretty much until the end. Some of the time stamps on the in-progress shots for 2.0 are dated to within 1-2 months before theatrical release but that has an additional delay because back in 2009 most theaters still needed film prints and you need extra weeks to get those made and distributed. Since Q it's all digital cinema and they can probably push it less than a month before needing a final cut and theatrical release.

The things to keep in mind are:
Ikuto Yamashita works in-house at khara and is usually involved from the earliest stage.
Koyama Shigeto is a freelancer who has done both design work and animation for the Eva movies so far, so he could come in whenever in the process.
Sushio is also a semi-freelancer now under Trigger's roof and has so far contributed only final key animation, so he would probably be called in when they ramp up full production.

There's no doubt that all sorts of design work could have taken place by this time even if it's just for various staff members to bounce ideas off eachother, maybe that's what Dan Kanemitsu is trying to say: that they haven't been just sitting around doing nothing at all. But still, given Animator Expo they really couldn't have ramped up production to full force yet.

With Anno also being pretty obsessive and perfectionistic apparently, and with this being the final film, I doubt it will be a fast production. He will probably want several versions of each thing, will change stuff, etc. But it won't be six years.
What might take six years is the release of a certain film in the tetralogy in the US. ;)

Could it also be that Anno may have delegated certain parts of production to people such as Yamashita and others he has worked with over the years that don't require his day-to-day oversight while he works on other projects such as animator expo? For all we know, there might be CGI work being done by the 3D animators and Shiro Sagisu could be at his piano working on the score.

At this point I do not care, for me Q was decent kinda bad Movie and the Rebuild Series is kinda pointless in this point, maybe they should cancel the last Movie and do other things. I am more interesting in Khara independent projects that Anno projects (rebuild series kill my respect for Him).

I partially agree, they should start other projects, that's why they started rebuild : to gain enough financial support to do whatever they want.

After 10 years, still waiting. And no, I'm not gonna take 30 (great) 5m. shorts into account

And no, this time budget or schedule are no problem. I repeat, perfectionism has nothing to do with such slow pace in the production. Any other studio would be despised. I have no hurries, my life is full of other things, but don't lie ourselves. If we talk about bussines, they aren't being productive. AT least 10 years for 4 movies, one of the a remake, the second one based on a prevoius story, all of them based on a previous story, is not productive. And sorry no "but they are geniuses" speeches or "you don't know how industry works" because you don't know either, but you know that other studios work more, faster and has nothing to to with talent. Being a genius and being productive is possible. The release of EOE proves it.

It's Anno himself who made studio khara possible, so I think he has the right to take as long as he wants.
Before the Japan Film Festival, I complained too. I thought Anno just didn't kow what to do in part 4 and was intentionally not talking about it.
Turns out he was really depressed. So the only other solution to be productive woud be to just put another guy in the director role and slap the Eva name on it, which would be cheap.
The last film will probably release in two years, maybe even less, it's not that much time.

I am not a Fan of Eva for the Sci Fi elements, I do not even like the Mecha genre.

The Animator Expo is a great project I love those Shorts and they give me some hope about the Future of Khara, I really want see Khara doing something different.

Being a genius and being productive is possible. The release of EOE proves it.

Please do not compare Rebuild Series with EOE, that kinda depressed me.

Actually that sound good for me, maybe other director can make a Better Movie that Anno (and tsurumaki), who knows?.

Anno is quickly becoming the George R.R. Martin of anime.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996
