New captions

From 2004 to 2008 there was a thread where people offered captions reinterpreting scenes from the show, or fan pictures, in, well, whatever way they fancied, really. It got locked, but I don't know why - I've seen this work well on other forums. I reckon that seven years on, we could do it a bit more, as a distraction from getting too worried about the final film!

It's not a contest; just offer something that amuses you! But reuse previous images if you think you can do better.

I'll start the ball rolling, with nothing special - just to get the more imaginative to come out of the woodwork:

Are you sure, Shinji, that if I eat a slice of a melon Kaji grew I'll become more attractive to him?

You got the idea from my image in the pictures thread, I presume? The old caption contest thread was locked by request because it became too large. I really don't remember why it wasn't restarted...and man, 2008 was loooong ago!

Yes - plus the fact that I've run a similar thing at QC for the past several years, and it's remained popular. There it's a new thread each week with a single new image - but that fits with taking frames from a continuing comic and wouldn't be the way to do it here.

And yes, that image is seriously way out - that's why I started with it, really.

IIRC, the old caption contest thread was locked because it eventually became a spamfest. However, our forum culture has evolved quite a bit since then, so I'm trusting that we'll be able to enjoy this privilege again responsibly.

Whatever the reason for the old lock ("locked on request"), this thread is up as a sequel - a good six years, two months, and two weeks after the old one was locked.

It was locked because at the time, the exact same thing was happening in the regular "Pictures" thread, so we had two threads where people were just posting pictures and a bunch of people would add some script-like dialog. When the thread was created, more people actually captioned the pictures, and there was no point in having two threads that did the same thing.
