A few songs I'm obsessed with at the moment...

I was thinking about "Specialist" pretty recently because I've been listening to Antics every other day or so; it's a pretty beautiful little track and wonderful representation of that TOTBL/Antics Interpol sound. That bass line is just like something you'd hear on a Joy Division track.

"The Suburbs" is a real repeatable track as well. I was pretty obsessed with that album as a whole back in the wonderful spring of 2011. Reflektor's title track didn't quite live up to its predecessor though.

Mew has a new track which I've been messing with a couple times a day, Satellites and for the past month or so I've been very much enjoying Seo Taiji's Sogyeokdong.

I've always been listening to a couple "classic" albums from 2005 at least a few times a week; Boy Night Out's Trainwreck and Bright Eye's Digital Ash in a Digital Urn

I just love the tempo change mid-bridge and specifically that line; "Speak when you're spoken of / Catch up on your sleep girl," then that almost seven minute build-up to that post-rockesque guitar riff climax. I fuckin' love it when they dabble with that stuff, man - a la 'Roland' on TOTBL or even some of the more extended, meandering cuts on OLTA or the self-titled. In fact, I think that's what actually lets down the weaker parts of those respective albums; they don't fully embrace that progressive experimentation in their sound, almost like they're too mindful to wander too far from their post-punk vibes.

While on the topic of Interpol actually, El Pintor sparked something of a renaissance of interest in the band for me (obviously). I've been listening to at least one full album a day since September last year. I've finally fully listened to and can appreciate OLTA and the self-titled LP, whilst before I only really had love for TOTBL and Antics. For instance, Interpol can't hold a candle as a complete work alongside the first two albums but I think the A-side of that record just might be some of my favourite music of theirs in general, hands down. I adore 'Memory Serves', 'Summer Well' and 'Barricade'. Heck, David Lynch even did a little animation for 'Lights'. In comparison, the B-side has only one decent track; 'Try It On'.

To be honest, I had no idea this was an Arcade Fire song until a few days ago. For years I'd heard it on the radio and always missed the name. I had just assumed it was some random folksy artist. Kind of ashamed that I couldn't piece it together that it was them, though.

Dude's percussive variations are beautiful. That whole Kindred EP is great, actually.

Jens Lekman has had a project in which he's been writing and recording a song a week and then posting them to his blog, and surprisingly he hasn't missed a week yet. What's unsurprising is that not all of the songs are perfect, but his seventh release in the series is easily my favorite song of the year so far. Every time I remember that it exists I'll give it a couple listens ;

Also been jamming out hard to Cold Cave's God Made the World. As is the case with most of his recent singles, the synth work is angry and wonderful.

Gives me hope for his next full-length; I'd like something akin to the sound on 'God Made the World' and 'Nausea, the Earth and Me' but pushed into further Depeche Mode territory maybe (Wes needs to get more crunchy bass/low end happening as well). His Uusitalo stuff is really good also. There's quite a lot of this kind of electronic music done in Finland. Probably because of Pan Sonic as well as Mika's and Ilpo's (of Pan Sonic) influencial solo efforts.

The only thing that I've been listening to for the last two weeks has been the new Leviathan album Scar Sighted. Not his best work but pretty great, and one of the best full albums I've listened to in a long long time.

Yea, totally man. "Oceans with No End" is probably my favorite Cold Cave release, and even though a song like "Black Boots" isn't right up my alley, I appreciate what he was trying to do when he wrote it(I always liked the b-side "Meaningful Life" much more). I'm big on "Confetti" but the rest of CtLY sounds too clean and streamlined and his voice isn't as low as it is on other recordings; it's more Duran Duran than Depeche Mode. I always did love the line in "Villains of the Moon," "You can go anywhere you want/ But you're here" though. I think when he released "Full Cold Moon" Eisold basically said that after a couple years he wasn't really in love with CtLY either, so go figure.

Heh, thanks man. Recently, late at night, all I seem to listen to is electronic stuff, plied with a little post-rock and shoegaze as well. Then in the morning it's all hardcore punk.

Cheers, I'll have to check it out. I've already dug into the Multila LP, and even though it only has one beat-oriented composition, the soundscapes and tone by themselves are to die for. I'm interested in checking out his Luomo moniker as well - apparently Ripatti produces more conventional house music with that brand.

Yeah, 'Confetti', 'Underworld USA' and 'Burning Sage' are the only tracks I can do, which is a shame, because I like the presentation and feel of the album itself.
