Dream: I'm sorry to see you go. I always thought you had a lot to contribute, and I'm truly sorry recent threads have alienated you. I hope you return someday.

Well goodbye Dream, didn't get to know you very well but i wish i did, good luck in the future.

Now at the cost of sounding ever so arrogant: is all the leaving recently something to do with me? cause seriously every time i join a forum or for example a guild in an mmo 90% of the time it has a mass exodus a few weeks after i join, i wouldn't be asking this is this had not happened at least.....i think its around 5-6 times now?
Somebody please explain if im doing something wrong here cause i don't exactly understand.

Forums have people coming and going all the time; just occasionally people try to make an issue of it, like this - but actually it's perfectly normal.

You've nothing to worry about; it seems clear to me that Dream is particularly sick of smart-arses with everything to type and nothing to say[s:2cgwuq0j]---[/s:2cgwuq0j]perhaps, also something Monk Ed said but didn't type[s:2cgwuq0j]---[/s:2cgwuq0j]not someone who might be considered "thin skinned". If seeing anyone's veins has anything to do with anyone leaving, it seems more because the community is too eager to shut down conversation on the premise that someone (imaginary or real) might be cut deeper than they could ever cut themselves.

Most are just bored, and blame everyone else for not entertaining them.

It is curious that Dream should have noted that it "deeply pisses [Dream] off" that others would imply they are in the wrong for not liking the place, whilst insinuating that others are actually wrong for liking the place. We're all hypocrites, nowadays.

The lack of rational discourse in that squick thread triggered something I guess, it certainly wasn't all you, that's for sure. You're at a tender age so it's sort of understandable. I'm straying off topic.

Farewell Dream, message me if you ever want to talk about whatever.

Just wanted to explain (and apologize for) the tone in my previous post and address some points that were raised in replies to it. I desire this to be my last post on the matter.

SPOILER: Show
View Original PostMonk Ed wrote:I said what now?

Well, the nonchalant way you joked about CJD's departure rubbed me the wrong way since it came off like you didn't really care about his departure or the reasons behind them. Wouldn't know if that's true but i still apologize for having been so rude in that previous post.

I was actually planning a much smaller version of this post a couple months before coming back here again by accident, but what really got my panties in a twist is this kinda tribal attitude the forum has towards all the people who say they're leaving... I don't care, this is perfectly normal, we're not here to entertain you, etc. If the current state of things was a result of staff and members looking at the forum or themselves and this being the direction they wanted to take then that's just how it is (and i'm sure some members did just that) but by and large it just looks like EGF doesn't give a shit about how it's perceived and is pretty content to let things decay to wherever they end up at. If that is perfectly normal then all the more reason to jump ship.

Plus, aside from the current forum having a hell of a bloat/spam problem, there's a lot of poison coming from some members here and a sort of tribalist/combative attitude that really kills things here for me. I don't really get why some of you hold this perception that we're just bored and demand entertainment... I'm not bored, i'm sad and frustrated that a place which used to mean so much to me has decayed to a point where little more than banality and/or poison are what you get out of reading the threads. To tell you the truth i didn't plan or desire to go into much detail (within the open forum at least) in my departure post aside from the personal cirscumtances because i far preferred to silently step off like i did back in march, in no small part because i knew that the replies were going to lean more towards combat than a constructive discussion, but i guess the recent posts in this thread got me a little too impulsive. Sorry about that.

Finally, to clear one last thing up i don't really believe people are necessarily wrong for liking this place. It's certainly not for me and i think the forum culture has a lot of very serious issues that need taking care of, but Bagheera and Gob made a better job of summarizing the good aspects of this place than i ever could. Oh, and Rose, none of the issues i take with the place have to do with your posts and i'm sure no one has any issue with your activity either. You're not doing anything wrong at all.

That should be all, i think. Thank you for all the farewells. It really means a lot that you were so nice and civil even when i was not. See you around and stuff.

I honestly have to say I have no idea what you're talking about, Dream. It's like you're speaking in code. I've heard similar complaints from the 'skype group' crowd but I sincerely do not understand what it is you guys are on about.

I urge you or others who do understand this to go to the feedback forum and try to explain it.

I can't help but feel that this is partially my fault, as Dream and i had a falling out due to drama in the Skype group. Dream, if you're reading this, i forgive everything. I overreacted, and i'm very sorry.

I log out for twenty-four hours, and when I come back EGF is having an identity crisis. I suppose that's not unexpected given all that's happened over the last week or so. I figure I may as well weigh in and comment on a few things while I'm here.

Dream, I always enjoyed interacting with you and I wish you the best of luck moving forward with your life. I apologize if my own actions had any contribution towards your departure as I know some of the latent hostility people are discussing is attributable to my own temperamental nature.

CJD, while I can never really say we got along very well, you brought a lot of personality and liveliness to this place. Regardless of our past interactions, I'm sorry to see you go. Best of luck to you as well.

As for the state of the forums regarding how it resembles the EGF of the past, I have this to say. There's less chaos now, but there's also less enthusiasm and less dynamic engagement with other posters. As a result, while this place isn't as fun as it once was, it's also more balanced in my opinion. At the same time, it's not stable, because we have different classes of users who have different experiences and different opinions on what EGF should be like. Hopefully recent events prompts open discussion about this, so we can cultivate a compromise between the old, free-flowing EGF, and a more subdued and orderly EGF. This way, we can try and accommodate as many users as possible.

And finally, I know I can be a bit antagonistic and temperamental towards certain things. I'm currently trying not to get so riled up and combative over things, so I can fulfill my share of the bargain in making this place more hospitable.

I think that's about everything. Hopefully, we can get this all sorted out. I have faith in this place and its users in making that happen.

I’ll be the first to agree this place isn’t that much “fun” anymore. But then, my idea of fun a lot of times was just clicking on the “Eva Graveyard” section and grabbing a bag of popcorn. A lot of that energy that we remember fondly might have actually stemmed from the animosity that built between posters and such. Sure, there was never a boring day with HAL on the forum, but it ended up with AWL being chased away us.

I’m not saying there can’t be fun without it being directly linked to fights, but I am wondering if we’ve ever really had that kind of fun around here.

SPOILER: Show
Though I guess I shouldn’t paint that in such black & white terms. After all I was a part of the ever-so-fun “Film Fag” clique that was on around here. (It was a terribly inappropriate name if one wasn’t in on the original joke.) I think there was even a fanfic being written about us by someone who used to (and still might, I forget) frequent here. Then I just got so busy with actual video and film projects that I decided to just do my own thing apart from that.

I have nothing left to contribute, Mainly due to me being young and, well, boring. The interests of people here don't really mesh with mine and for a while now I've been going to this forum as a secondary while TalkClassical has nothing going on.

I'll probably be back when Shin comes out.
