I might have rather conflicted feelings of Xard as a person now, but I wouldn't want him to leave forever. Also I'm waiting for the next polar opposite opinion after Macross and my idea of sexuality, lol.

Maybe it just rubs me the wrong way that such an intelligent person person can have such out there things to say. But then again, it widens my horizon and tests the limits of my tolerance... So there's that.

(or maybe Xard needs just a big gay hug from me)

I'm gonna be starting watching Macross Plus soon, on my way to seeing the legendary Macross 7 (somehow), and I enjoyed Xard's reactions to my viewings of Nadia and I'll be looking forward to his opinion of my opinion of the greater Macross series.

That's true, it's still jarring to read such an intricate essay of plain miss-information by someone I though who knew better, lol.

Eva geeks sure is an obscure place. Kind of an intellectual 4chan at times, but that's why I love it.

That's true, miss-informed was the wrong word. What I meant was drawing strange conclusions from sketchy selected information in such an essay to build a house of cards - thesis is not something I expected Xard to do.

And yes, I'm sorry, I should stop now.

I'm out too. It's become increasingly evident over the past few months that I vehemently disagree with the moderation on EGF, both the official moderation applied by the staff members and the peer and social moderation applied by the other posters. In many ways, that latter form disgusts me more than the former. Given that the only joy I derive from EGF these days is either sardonic pleasure or outright baiting, it's clear that I should just leave and accept that it isn't the place I used to love.

I'll presumably pop back in when news of 4.0 is announced but otherwise don't expect to see me around. If anyone wants to contact me feel free to message me on Steam, Skype, or MAL.

Ciao.

Anyone who's "disgusted" by the current roster of EGF (mostly decent human beings IMO) is better served elsewhere. Better people find what they want among like-minded individuals than try to force a community to be something it doesn't want to be.

People come, people go. Happens all the time - it's a (largely) free world.

Seriously, if someone doesn't want to be here, then it's no benefit to us or to them for them to stay, and there's no good reason to try to persuade them otherwise.

I think it's less they're "disgusted" by the people here and more annoyed by the current hugbox-y atmosphere that has pervaded the forum of late. EGF used to be a fairly lenient and "libertarian" place where you could actually discuss stuff. Now I feel there's an increasing attitude to prioritize not hurting other people's feeling over actually having a meaningful conversation, not helped by the fact that some individuals are far too easily offended (not going to name anyone because that isn't helpful). I think people could stand to be a bit more relaxed and develop thicker skins. It's a similar reason to why satire is practically dead- in society now there's this all-pervading dread of offending people. In any case, it certainly is a shame when longtime members like Mugwump, Lucretius and Merridan abandon the forum.

In any case, I think people full stop (not just talking about EvaGeeks) need to learn to stop letting their jimjams be ruffled by something someone says on the internet. Remember, for all you know they could be a gerbil.

@Sorrow: Xard is anything but a non-entity. He's got a long and lelsworthy history with this forum and he does some of the best anime reviews I've ever seen (there's a reason that Xard-post is practically part of the EGF dictionary).

Xard probably also had to tone a lot of his former hilarious hijinx down some because he became a mod. He's also probably watched more anime than anyone on this forum and he knows his stuff when it comes to reviewing things.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

For as long as I've been here, he has been a non-entity. This Hal fellow had more presence, before anyone mentioned his possible return.

I've never heard of a "Xard-post", and his history has been irrelevant until after the very recent "controversy". I don't doubt that he was once a more "energetic" member (as many of you love to label your heroes), but what I said isn't off the mark.

I don't think they abandoned the forum because people had thin skins. Rather, I think they abandoned the forum because they were bored out of their skulls. And that's unfortunate, of course, but it's not up to us to entertain them. If they don't like the forums they have the option to participate and change them. If they choose not to that's on them, not us.

I'd like to hear from Mugwump, Essel, and others as much as anyone, but I can't control them. If they don't want to interact with me they don't, and short of them communicating with me directly there's nothing I can do about that. At that point I can only let it go and wish them the best. Which I do, wholeheartedly. If they want to come back, I'll welcome them. If not, I'll carry on as best I can. That's all I can really do.
