But when it's PETA vs Islam, the correct response is to draw up a chair, grab some popcorn, and just watch the entertainment.

How bizarre. Aren't Indians mostly vegetarian anyway? I always thought they were, apart from a bit of chicken or fish here and there.

Hindus are, because of the belief in reincarnation (even if the soul resides in animals or plants), and that cows and monkeys are considered sacred and should not be harmed. However they also live with a combination of other Hindu sects, and then you have other Indians who are either into Islam or Buddhism or in any form of Christianity.

For this supposed organization to meddle with sensitive matters and local beliefs is like trying to strike a match inside a munitions plant.

The Jains and some Buddhists, perhaps -- everyone else is in the "meat is for feast days" routine, like most human societies throughout history (and the celebration of the end of a month of fasting definitely counts as a feast day). Some meats are ritually sensitive, but chicken and mutton are fairly standard everywhere they can be afforded.

Right. I knew it was definitely a Hindu thing, but thought it had carried over into Indian culture more generally regardless of religion. I can sorta see why they thought it might work -- if you're mostly vegetarian anyway going meatless on a feast day wouldn't seem like that much of an ordeal. But fucking with a religious holiday . . . yeah, bad idea.

Old news at this point, but in case people don't keep up with this stuff, you should probably make sure your bash is patched. Some people saying debian and ubuntu is safe because they run dash instead, but make sure your version is actually running dash. Apparently EC2 AMI's don't.

The protesters should have been put in the cages.

While this exhibition wasn't necessarily satire, it does talk about people who miss the whole point about the nature of a performance. I think this Cracked article about satirists who've suffered because of people who missed the joke or don't understand the underlying nature of a performance provides an interesting take on why this kind of thing happens, citing a "lack of faith in humanity".

Alas, the impending death of satire, the ability to make judgment based on intelligence, and common sense.

I'm with Stryker. The protesters definitely missed the idea of what the performance was about on this one.

Yep, can't say I'm surprised. False flag games are all the rage these days among the more forceful SJW crowd.

Unfortunate that it was a deception, but a relief that it was that, too.

Though while this threat turned out to be a hoax, doesn't mean the negative commentary that her speech wound up getting was, however. This hoax here that got piled into it was probably just a really misguided reaction.

I mean, I'm disappointed with today's people inability to distinguish satire and sarcasm from reality, and the tendency to be completely gullible, convinced that what they read online is seen as true. Or that some people are so wrapped up on being white knights that they cause more damage than supposedly trying to save something.
