3.0+1.0 can have two meanings at the same time:

- Being the fourth and final movie in the series.

- Closing the circle between 1.0 and 3.0, with the "+" sign being the upcoming movie itself (time-loop theory anyone?)

Look closely. Don't you think "3.0+1.0" has the same meaning as "|"?

Uh guys, what was the segment with Suitcases about? I was told it happened after the 3.0 NTV live stream.

I hate all this "Anno trolled us" bullshit. It's such a childish & entitled way of looking at things. Frankly I think it's just a case of Anno & Khara will release info regarding the film when they feel ready for it & right now they aren't willing to share anything.

In any case 3.0+1.0 could refer to replacing Q. As in it begins directly after 2.22 and we see what happened during the time skip + something completely new.

What if Q never happened, or Shinji is now equipped with the knowledge of what happened in Q and wakes up at the end of 2.22 with this new knowledge and changes things. Gets a second chance to REDO things.

Would also explain why they didn't show any footage. If it goes back to before Q, then the trick will be revealed as soon as they show any footage of the past time period.

I've always had the idea after seeing Q that Final would begin with maybe a 10-20 min flashback detailing what happened in the timeskip before cutting to the present. I would very much like this.

I am completely unsurprised by this development. I thought the wait for and release of Q made it pretty obvious that you should never get excited about anything Eva until something exciting is right there in front of you. Anticipation for whispers, shadows, and phantoms is for suckers. (Meaning, yes, I was a sucker once, too.)

I'm glad to get confirmation on half of the title but I'm especially glad I kept this airing far back in my thoughts & wasn't counting down the days to it's airing.

Well, such an awkward title, isn't it? There is no origin... Hm. Maybe a subtle hint that we shouldn't speculate about what happened prior to 3.0 and 1.0, because Anno doesn't intent to explore it further with 4.0. But what do I know.

Seriously. Just say it aloud. Sounds really strange for one movie.

I liked this. I thought it was surprisingly informative, in that it cleared up the mystery of the lamp. Now we know what "3.0 + 1.0" refers to. It's amazing how just a little context clears up the meaning of something otherwise mysterious.

I suppose it helps that I had little to no expectations that we would see a full trailer or anything like that. And I'm not sure I would have been happier if we did. I'd worry that it would present us with just enough information to cause undue worry -- like the trailer for Q did. I still remember all the detailed analysis of that short clip and the predictions 1) that Asuka would go up into space twice and 2) that she would not survive the movie. The one little piece that had so many making such dire pronouncements turned out to be this like total throwaway moment in the actual movie.

This time they're not giving us enough rope by which to hang ourselves.

Now, having said that -- I have this bizarre suspicion, which I hold only very loosely to my chest, that "3.0 + 1.0" and "Final" are actually two separate things. In other words, what if one of those predictions made back when the lamp was shown, that 3.0 + 1.0 might be some kind of interquel, is actually true? Have these two titles, 3.0 + 1.0 and "|", been shown together?

But I repeat that I hold this only loosely, because Anno loves his multiple titles, and he also loves changing things up in mid-stream, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is just the new name for what we previously thought would be called 4.0.

The official announcement pic had the Japanese names of the three films written in giant letters, and in letters just as big they announced the new TV preview.
I don't know if Anno is directly responsible for this, probably not, but that was misleading as Hell. I'm OK with Anno not showing anything yet, but then why mislead us? The release of the last film should be exciting for its creators and the fans. If they didn't announce anything, it would have been cool to know that the film's name really is 3.0+1.0.

And yes I'm really excited to get my hands on dat 3.33+1.11 BD. Best name ever for anything.

I'm pretty sure it is what Gendo's Papa says. I really like this interpretation. A callback to the roots of the project, and something that still holds true (everybody says 3.0 kind of feels like a first half in some way).

P.S. I won't get into any crazy theories why the movie is titled 3.0 + 1.0. I'll just assume until the creative crew tells me otherwise that the title signifies the 3rd & 4th films NEED to be viewed as one long film told over two parts. Kinda like how they were supposed to be just one 90 minute movie when this whole franchise was announced back in September 2006.

Reading that post makes we wish the only information we'll get about 3.0 + 1.0 before it's release is the announcement of the second half of the title - whatever You *** (Not) ***** segment will be if they even keep that - & a release date.

No trailers. No magazine spreads of a new Evangelion ready for battle. No pictures of the female pilots in brand-spanking new or shredded old versions of plug suits. No female pilots wearing helmets that have fans getting all giddy about it having "cat ears". No bullshit really.

Between now & release - just a full title & a release date.

That's what I want now.

Maybe out spite they can make 3.0 + 1.0 into the equivalent of Death, you know, a RECAP movie of the first three movies with new animation and voice acting, just for shits and giggles.
