So upon looking through the CG World article about Eva Q again I've noticed there is one screenshot in there that is nowhere to be found in the actual movie.

It looks like a typical, highly-industrialized modern port.
Problem is, why was this modeled?
It's not part of the Japan Marine Ecosystem Preservation Research Organization facilities from Ha and it only share a select few of the assets.
I've checked the best I could but it doesn't look like any of the facilities on the shores of lake Hakone either.
Why is it part of the Q related article but not in the movie?
The landscape is red. There's a what looks like a destroyer happily floating there.
At this point my only conclusion is that this is one of Wille's facilities around the world that got cut because reasons.
Tentative proof shit isn't as fucked as Shinji/the audience were lead to believe?

Notice the rest of the landscape is Also colored Red.

Interesting, but only time will tell what this is all about. I like the idea of the world not being FUBAR though.

Maybe it came from the early development stages of the landscape briefly seen as Fourth Impact's vortex rings are extending, but before it was treated to be all red:

Although by the look of it, the final shot looks like a real photo to which they added a red filter, maybe what we see in the CG World article was the first attempt at that shot, but was since scratched in favor to real photos with a red filter?

I think ElMariachi has some good thoughts on what's up with it. Could very well be proof things aren't as screwed up though.

Oh I would really love that it was a proof that the world isn't as screwed was we (and Shinji) were led to believe in Q, but I doubt that such an huge revelation would be spoiled in a specialized magazine on 3D CGI.

But a red filter on those buildings and I'll be dollars to donuts they are the ones used in the "preview" where Eva-02+08 fights Anno's MP-Eva Final speculation macguffins.

Well, it doesn't seem like it's the exact same location, but it does use a lot of the same assets.

The images in the book don’t look like they’re very well rendered CGI anyway. The lighting is very basic, and it looks like it was probably only meant for pre-visualization animatics or something like that.

Yes, there's a lot of very basic, preliminary rendering examples in both the CG world article as well as the making-of feature on the BD.

Still, that's a complete set that got built at least for testing footage.

Interesting to note that the core effect is clearly visible on the tankers, and building in the next-time preview. I can't tell if the effect is moving however

Another interesting possibility is that the industrial complex shown appears to be a chemical plant or refinery of some sort. Perhaps this place was built after N3I, to try and process/contain whatever "contamination" might have been spreading out over the landscape?

Seeing how the whole landscape is turned to core material, that seems like a futile effort, even with a big industrial complex.

So Near Third impact started a slow process of Terraformation? Thats what I'm getting from this.

Maybe it was a Military base built to protect/observe Unit 01 during those years Shinji and Rei were impaled in the circle of pillars?
