Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

I would be more than willing to take public transportation, really. It's not that it's unappealing, it's that the public transport in Tampa is a bloody nightmare in terms of inconsistency and tardiness. It's not unusual for a bus to be 20 minutes late.

So, strictly speaking, I could use it, but it's such a kludge that it just isn't worth it.

"With" or "for" - a very important distinction, especially in the case of parents!

Well I'm my father's apprentice, so I'm in this funny position, especially considering he actually relies on me.

The friend...

Well, as I said, we think the new man is bad for her. He is, to be blunt, a misogynistic bullshitter. Well, he can be charming, and can talk about many things (he has a PhD, though it doesn't show), he is attentive to her... And that's where the trouble starts - he is the sort who doesn't help so much as does it for her. In my book that starts to become disabling. And he can talk about almost anything - in fact whatever you talk about, he has a story to top it! Wonderful experience of life, or bullshit?

Anyway, my wife went shopping with her, and brought up that we felt we didn't get on with him. This quickly went downhill, as she responded that he finds it difficult to get on with us, and we are her only friends for whom this is a problem. To avoid disaster, my wife didn't go into any more details of issues, and over our last meal before we came home, we were all excessively polite to each other.

In particular, my wife didn't bring up that she had expressed concern over both our friend's previous marriages, and had been proved right! Nor, that our friends who have met the guy feel the same about him that we do. Now it's time to think of ways for my wife to meet her friend alone in the medium term, I think.

Yep. Infatuated people aren't known for making the most level-headed analysis of their potential partners and tend to lash out at anyone who dares question the source of their emotional high.

The Germans have a phrase: "Liebe macht Blind", that applies here.

I wish I could say something meaningful, here, Hodges, aside from tell you what I would do in such a situation. You're really stuck between a rock and a hard place. I'm not sure about the nature of the relationship, but is there a chance that she would realize her error and try to mend things with you (in due time, of course), were you to tell her?

Story toppers are some of the worst people; but we'd probably hate them more if what they say were more than just bragging lies and just simple brags.

Bringing it up directly was a dangerous move and what followed is probably what you expected to happen. Having said that, distancing for the remainder of their relationship while your wife and her friend probably meet less often themselves is the best it will be at this point.

You can always try to go back to how it was when she inevitably starts to see his bad points herself - should you want to.

I'm inclined to agree. Surely 40 years has to count for something, no?

Lovely.... don't know if it's a clog or an airlock of sorts (since it was fine earlier) but it seems the plumbing responsible for draining the washing machine and the toilet is blocked with half the washers water ending up on the floor as it came flooding out of the toilet. The water is mostly cleaned up now thanks to my shop vac except for under the washer since it's way too heavy to move by myself empty, let alone with water still in it.

I'm also tempted to pull the toilet up since no doubt water is trapped under it.... don't need the floor rotting out again like a few years ago.

This is just fantastic.... Hopefully the block will release and no plumber will have to be called.

Regardless of how things turned out you still made the right choice, pwhodges. Not saying anything would just have resulted in something a lot worse down the line. Now that the door's been opened you can keep trying to step through it.

Yes - I think that given that the fact there is a problem has been seen from both sides (as it turns out), having it out in the open to some extent is the better place to work from.

Quit smoking two days ago. Just wasn't really doing it for me anymore. Everyone I know has switched to a vaporizer. I'm giving it a week wihtout nicotine then I'm going to decide wether or not I'll pick up vaping or not.

Headaches aren't that bad but my eyes hurt for some reason whenever I get a craving.
It's difficult in times like these; ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality.
It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical.
Yet I cling to them because I believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.

My iPhone battery has been acting weird the last couple of weeks, not charging when the power cord in inserted, have to stick the power cord in at a weird angel, screen pixilating, etc. I tried updating the software this morning, but the damn thing got stuck on the loading screen. Since I had the power cord connected at one of those aforementioned weird angels, I tried adjusting it. iTunes read that as me disconnecting the phone. This apparently screwed everything up and now I had to restore my phone. This deleted everything. EVERYTHING. Furthermore to access my "new" factory settings phone, I need to have my dad's email and password for his iTunes account, since that is what I'm using. Only I don't know his work email, so I'm left with a useless hunk of plastic and I have to pick up my sister sometime today, only now I don't know what time because she was going to text me. I can't call anybody else because my dad's place doesn't have any landlines.

FUCK

The silver lining is at least I'm going to get a new phone.
