Thought it deserved its own topic.

I. Friggin. Hate. FROZEN.

It robbed "the Wind Rises" of the best animated Film Award it rightfully deserved! Now this? Oh. . .now I'm mad.

I take it you're not into Disney that much. -o-;

Now, I both Agree and Disagree with you. I really like Frozen, cause it is a good movie, but I agree with the over-hypeness it's getting.

But, hey, if people prefer an optimistic tale of learning to accept yourself over a harsh tale of learning to accept yourself, then hey, that's their choice.

Oh I love Disney. . .But it's taken a major nosedive in terms of quality lately. Dreamworks is putting out the better product these days.

Not to mention noone outside of Asia is even bothering to make high quality hand drawn animation anymore.

Evangelion falls to Frozen because frozen has the family audience supplementing the otaku fanbase. It appeals to everyone Eva is way to harsh and dark for kids. Especially 3.0.

You go watch Legend of Korra immediately.

Back on topic, you should precise in the topic that Frozen won on DVD and Blu-Ray sales, at first I thought that it was it had beaten Eva in theater entries.
Although I didn't know that the holder of second place was 2.0, although it's not that surprising: 2.0 was far less divisive than 3.0.

Still, the difference in selling is brutal:
Eva 2.22: 357,000 copies first week
Frozen: 1,553,505 copies first week

Although, I if for Eva the sales could had been diluted between the DVD and the BD (was BD well implanted in 2010?), I'm curious to see both film's score on their BD + DVD respective sales, although I'm sure that even then Frozen will win.

Anyway Frozen mustn't be that bad of a movie if it sells so well everywhere around the world! Also take in account that it's a family movie, suitable for everyone, children as well as parents, which makes a target demographic much wider than Eva, where even in the upbeat 2.0 we got a giant humanoid having its arms impaled and shredded in a fountain of blood and another being disemboweled and the inside half devoured in full details! (3.0... well I don't think there's even the need to talk about it!)

Seriously, that is the most fananked theory I've ever heard, more than Mari being Marty McFly travelling through time to keep her parents (Asushin) together. -- Jäeger

Already a big fan, but Legend of Korra is produced and directed by Americans, but its animated in Korea.

and about 3.0. . .agreed. That movie was just. . .blood and angst.

That movie was what the second half of Eva was, darker and more traumatic, except cranked up to eleven the same way 2.0 cranked the epicness and fanservice up to eleven.
Everyone who knew NGE and entered Rebuild knew what to expect, that sooner or later the depressive stuff that is what made the series so famous would come back after the light-hearted shenanigans, the change from light-hearted to darker feels (and is) more sudden due to the film format. (I can even precisely pinpoint the moment the shift from light-hearted to dark and dramatic happen: 1:08:00 in 2.0, the moment Asuka notices Bardiel screwing with her cockpit)

Considering Frozen is more popular than Christ in the US alone, this is hardly surprising. I get guests at work asking me who my favorite Frozen character is despite the fact that I have yet to see the movie (and I own it on BD and it's still in the wrapper). Even if it came neck and neck with Eva, I'm pretty sure it still would have done better than Q considering how Q's sales were lower than 2.22's.

Everyone who knew NGE and entered Rebuild knew what to expect, that sooner or later the depressive stuff that is what made the series so famous would come back after the light-hearted shenanigans, the change from light-hearted to darker feels (and is) more sudden due to the film format.

That's not the problem people have with Q. It's one thing to be darker and depressing, it's another thing to be dark and depressing without giving justifiable explanations for it.
Please just call me Ian, "TheFrisky" is more of a title.

Well luckily we still have another movie that could potentially gives us answers on how and why things came to be in Q before writing the whole thing off. If Anno could info dump the 13 angel revelation from EoE with Misato in under a small amount of minutes without pacing suffering then i cannot see how he can't do the same for the time skip.

And yes, i do understand how the film giving out little answers itself on key elements could lead to a frustrating experience for plenty of fans.

^ I guess it's appealing to a wider audience than Eva is. Just because something sells more does not necessarily mean that it's the better option, though. (Even though Frozen is pretty damn good.)

Though, honestly, between the two sources should we really be surprised?

When it comes to the content, Optimism isn't Naivety, and Cynicism isn't Wisdom.

I'm always surprised when Japan loves American stuff more than the stuff they create.

It's the same with Americans like Japanese stuff more than our product. It's the exotic culture angle that entices our curiosity.

That....and the massive amounts of porn.
