How young is too young to see NGE?

This is the place to start: Feel free to introduce yourself, have general conversations and casual discussions about all things Evangelion, including chit-chatty topics like "Sachiel is adorable" or "Which Eva kicks the most ass?"

I first watched Eva when I was 12 or 14, I definitely felt too young after seeing it.

I'd say anyone who is still a fetus would be too young.

Obviously, since their eyes would be sort of unfinished and blocked from the screen by mommy's abdominal wall.

If you still hold childish innocence, still believe that people are inherently good, world is wonderful place and your parents will love you just because they are your parents... You're too young.

With Eva I think it really does come down to the person. I saw the series first when I was about 9, but honestly most of it went over my head beyond thinking "This is really weird...". I didn't really start thinking about the themes and ideas of it until I re-watched it a few years ago along with EoE, at which point, having seen it already, it was more of an enlightening experience, seeing details I had missed before and piecing the story together.

On the other hand, if I had watched EoE along with the original series I would most likely have freaked out, cos that's where I really started to feel like something serious was happening beyond being just a 'tad' weird.

So maybe mid-teens would be a good age for people to be capable of appreciating it. Beyond that it really just comes down to tastes I think!

A couple weeks ago I found some of the first release DVDs in a Goodwill and was looking at them. Some 7-8 year old kid noticed them too and I know he was curious because after all it is animation, but no way did I let him look and besides, I did think about getting them for a few minutes before changing my mind.

I think we can all agree that the first half of Eva is fine to watch
even for a young kid (anyone under 8) "part 2" gets a little crazy
so you might want some parents present in the room.

I genuinely love how good Evangelion hurts
