While it has been many, many years since I've seen it on toonami, I remember enough of it say if you haven't seen it, keep it that way. The basic premise is all right, but they dumbed down the characters so much, that the only way it would be redemable is if it is confirmed that the show was a parody of the entire franchise. And even then, it isn't a good parody.

On another note, I'm through episode 3 of Gokukoku no Brynhildr, and while I don't believe it's bad at this point, I'm not sure if I'm going to continue it. The reason is not from what I have seen, but the reputation of the person who had created the original manga as he is the same person that created Elfen Lied. Now, I haven't seen that show, but I am well aware of its reputation. I have also heard that GnB will eventually go down that path later on. And while I haven't seen nothing on the show mutalited other than a cake, I'm a little concerned with going on with this.

I'm a little bit sad, that they didn't manage to come up with a own visual style for the series. Instead they seemed to have opted for Bakemonogatari Light. So much for wasted potential.
...
It's still beautiful and diverting enough though, so'll I keep watching. Also, I'm still not tired of Shinbo squirting all over Anime.

Well, we saw Kanade melted down in ep 2. The EL manga was very, very good, at least as far as it went. I would have preferred a different basic premise than the one we got (the norms weren't all that interesting to me, and the SoL antics did nothing for me), but most indications so far suggest that GnB is avoiding most of that. My main worry is that it will go seriously grimdark in nothing flat, only the fact the manga's ongoing has stopped me from going into full panic mode.

But yeah, it obviously can't end well given the basic setup. Best case scenario is that they take down the Laboratory and everyone in it and that they get to have a little peace in their lives before they die.

Hmm. There's still some gaps in my Tenchi viewing, this being one of them, as well as the later spinoff series (GXP and War on Geminar), not to mention OAV eps 14-20, and all the Sammy spinoffs.

Started my spring pickups. DAL II was meh on the first ep but picked up in the second. Sidonia is looking good once I get used to the character designs and I like the op. Black Bullet picked up in the second ep with Kagetane's antics - what else to expect from someone who names their gun Spanking Sodomy?

Kiss Dum episode 6: To be fair, some sort of very rudimentary plot seems to be slowly emerging, but this episode is just more Garzey's Wing awesomeness. The oh so random crazy villain girl is great, though, as she seems to be realizing that only high camp can salvage this show. Besides, she's immune to QUALITY and she likes taking her clothes off.

Ninja Cadets: 1990s OVA schlock with pretty good production values. The plot resembles Puppet Princess quite a bit, except in this case the story is left totally unfinished in the finest OVA tradition. One thing I really liked is how the female ninja cadets are really tough fighters all the way through and not relegated to mere support roles (fairly hilarious in retrospect, considering the main girl is named Sakura). Nobody's overpowered but everybody's skilled, and that leads to some pretty good teamplay action.

Knights of Sidonia 01: Can it be? A 3DCG animuh that occasionally looks something other than buttfuck awful? We have here an adaptation of a Tsutomu Nihei manga that I started a while back and dropped because I forgot how much I hate Nihei as a character designer - almost as much as I love him as landscape artist. Though I didn't get far enough into the manga to really appreciate this, Knights of Sidonia appears to be dyed-in-the-wool Eva pastiche, right down to Black Space Gods as foe - but what makes this better than much else in this vein (apart from Nihei's god-tier backgrounds and engagingly bizarre world design: main character is a pitiful mole man, intersex folks as purely normal part of mainstream society, clones everywhere and bear lady wtf) is that you get the sense Nihei really understood what made Eva good and appealing (and same could be said for other greats of mecha that preceded it, Gundam and Macross most especially) - far before any of the weird psychoanalytic namedropping or overwrought religious symbolism there was just solid, well-written exploration of the consequences of the ridiculous fantasy of teenagers piloting superweapons in existential warfare. Such is what we have here, but IN SPACE! And that (actual understanding of what makes mecha show more interesting than disposable cartoon about robots that punch things) is what is most encouraging to me about this show, though excellent soundtracking & sound design in general also pleases me and the CG looking if not Q-quality then at least passable is a huge bonus. Character design is still kind of bleh but at least in color & with VA there is a bit more to help me tell one from another. And I'm amused by use of intersex & (presumably) clones in diegesis as sly commentary on why all animes are filled with androgynes and samefaces. Picked the fuck up.

Bubblegum Crisis #15-16

Somebody found this show's existentialism button, and it feels like they're about to push it. Also shipping and lesbians, in those same episodes. I'm really liking this show.

Knights of Sidonia 3: Not gonna lie, this ep pissed me off. The whole damn op went to hell because of a girl, and that's very much not the sort of thing we need to see in our entertainment these days. Hope they get away from that in future.

Trying to finish Majestic Prince after putting it on hold and rewatching Madoka for the first time after its initial broadcast. I decided against the combilation movies as retelling 2 hours straight is a bit too much for me at the moment. Will go for Rebellion after I'm done.

The problem with Mardock Scramble is that it throws philosophical/symbolical stuff at your face that makes no sense whatsoever.

Eva doesn't make sense in a good way, this one doesn't make sense in a bad way.

I don't remember that being a problem, honestly (see GitS and, to a far greater degree, GitS: Innocence for that). MS's problems mostly related to pacing issues and boring antagonists. Despite the movies' quality animation and explicit visuals there was ultimately something . . . dreadfully mundane about them. That's hard to manage given the show's high concept setting, but it managed it nonetheless.

Awesomely Shitty

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity
