I'm all right for now, as I laughed at mdo7's attempts to preach -- it's just that SONEs expect the world to go around them and everyone else to kiss their asses.

I'm not familiar with mdo7 (is that someone here I've never noticed?) but kpop fans in general tend to be extremely catty and obsessive. I guess that extends to fans of particular pop groups/artists in general (Beliebers, One Directioners, etc.), but because kpop is such a niche it tends to stand out more.

It all started when someone posted his findings on Asuki, and then as expected a debate on the future of J-pop, until he himself showed up and started his windbag shtick. Looked up for him and, yeah, very obsessive to the point of ridiculousness... Oh, well, seeing that he's nuts I gave up on debating and watched the TL;DR flamewar instead.
Trust me, it's terribly hilarious.
I may be a 48G fan (if not a wota) coming from a long background listening to rock, but that doesn't mean I should attack other people's choice of music (last time I defriended a former colleague after he openly lambasted J-pop, after a long time I tolerated his growing obsession for K-boybands and never once I said anything negative).

I will say it is refreshing in this mdo7 guy's case that he actually seems to like other groups, including 2NE1 whom most SONEs hate because of fangroup rivalries. I don't care for 2NE1 either but that's purely because I've never heard a song from them that I actually liked.
But yeah dude seems like a total poopoo jerkface overall.
Obviously it doesn't apply to everyone. As a SONE myself, by that same logic I also called myself catty and obsessive.

You know, I sometimes scare myself with the depths of my own stupidity. I've been working on the 2.0 model for my digital dashboard. I posted about the original (hideous) model around this time, last year, I think. Anyway, it involves a lot of programming, and I completely changed the paradigm that I used, so that means all my old code is out of the window and I start over from basically scratch. That's not a problem, debugging everything is.
I ran into an oddball "bug" that kept giving me strange values for battery voltage, things that are impossible, like -16244 volts. I spent something like an hour and a half trying to fix this bug. I thought it may have been a UART frame error (module is a ISO9141-2 to UART converter), not having the right library linkages for floating point support (libc-avr, IIRC, doesn't have float support for ((v/f)s)printf/((v/f)s)scanf and you need to link a separate library), or even the module itself being bad. It turns out, the controller module that I bought wasn't the problem, it was that my software was never sending it the messages because I forgot to uncomment the "send request to the module" line in the code. Because of that oversight, I wasn't asking the module for the battery voltage (or anything), to start with. So, basically, I was seeing garbage data from the buffer because it was never filled, because I never asked for it to be filled, in the first place.
When it gets to this point, I just throw up my arms and say "WELL, THAT'S ENOUGH FOR TODAY!" I believe the technical term for this is a PEBKAC error.

But really, what programmer hasn't been there at some point? In fact, I had a similar experience just last week on some Software Testing-class homework. I was trying to run a parameterized JUnit test and was getting some compile-time error that didn't make any sense, and I kept looking between it and a previous one I'd completed successfully, wondering what I was doing wrong, and I swore the two were exactly alike except for the relevant and necessary differences, and then at some point after an embarrassingly long time I noticed I'd forgotten to put "@RunWith(Parameterized.class)" above the class name (that is, I forgot to specify that I was doing the whole parameterized test thing at all).
Things like this are clearly why they invented pair programming -- a fresh set of eyes can do so much to prevent headache down the line.

I was covering both mine and Catamari's experiences with that statement.
Speaking of which, Catamari, why didn't you use a debugger?

I find hard to keep writing the series idea I'm working on because everyone who's looked over it have told.me that it was a waste of time, it's also hard because I'm trying to fix problems I have like anger issues for instance witch gives me practically no time at all. Really a shame to because writing is one of the few things that makes me happy.
Also yes I will admit this one is stupid.

I normally would use gdb, but I was programming for an AVR chip (ATmega328p, a microcontroller, the same chip the Arduino uses). While a version of gdb for AVR does exist, the programmer board I use is a USBtinyISP programmer. I need a JTAG programmer to use avr-gdb, I believe I have to use Atmel's JTAG ICE, specifically (it's not exactly cheap). Because of that, I'm basically limited to assert and printf debugging through RS232 or an LCD.
So what? What's a waste of time, about it? If it doesn't make sense, try to work out the kinks. If you enjoy writing it, write it.heavytread wrote:I find hard to keep writing the series idea I'm working on because everyone who's looked over it have told.me that it was a waste of time, it's also hard because I'm trying to fix problems I have like anger issues for instance witch gives me practically no time at all. Been arguing a lot with my dad lately, seems like every time, he says it's ok for me to get one of my top wishlist items Platinum or a complete set of the Tokyopop manga from Sailor Moon, bills always come first and then he says wait until next time, then more bills, wash, rinse, condition, rinse, repeat. I'm in an endless cycle. And I'm angry at him, I understand money is tight right now because we're moving my brother out tomorrow, moving to a new house next week, but I kinda feel lied to. Then today I asked if I could preorder blurays of Saving Mr. Banks and Frozen for my birthday for my bday from best buy, he said no anime stuff, plus the two wishlist items were supposed to be for Christmas. Anyhow, he got pissed and said no, wait until they come out in store, I said it's better to preorder they're popular movies and they'll be sold out by then, but he's too stubborn to listen me and just likes to pick fights with me and make me cry.
In other news the mean girl at my school at my school has been threatening me when the teachers aren't looking. I haven't told them yet, but I swear she just drives me crazy these days. She said she wanted to start over, but she's already earned a reputation as the school bitch.

Best solution would be to get a job and get the stuff you want yourself, I mean you are 21yrs old. It's only a matter of time before your parents tell you the same thing.

I finished an online programming test for a game company I applied to a few days ago. It's the same one I applied to two summers ago, and, to my surprise, the programming test was exactly the same. Good thing I'd been practicing on this exact test for the past several days.
However I realized later that my solution has a memory leak .

@Princess Asuka:
This sounds like you're acting spoiled again. You dad likely has a lot more to worry about that a couple of movies you've probably already seen anyway.

This. Do you want a couple of stupid movies or do you want a roof over your head? Try to understand your dad's situation, bills really do come first.

The world of adults is not always a fun place, Princess. Sometimes you have to choose between two things, picking the lesser of two evils, or doing without something because the other is of greater importance. I'm not really one to talk, having grown up and currently living in a stable financial environment. If living on my own and going to college has taught me anything, it's self reliance and priority maintenance. Despite being relatively plentiful, I do have to make smart decisions about how I spend my money. If I could, I would spend all of my money on Nendoroids, LEGOs, and parts from Digikey. Unfortunately, things like rent, outstanding medical bills (soon to be paid off, w00t), electrical bills, gasoline, and food expenditures come first. They are mandatory expenditures. I generally have a little left over, every week, to spend on what I want. I don't normally have to make financial compromises. Time is a lot like money, and I do have to make temporal compromises. I'd love to spend all my time watching anime, but I can't. I have to balance my time watching anime with schoolwork and my job. Allowing one too much time cuts into the time I can spend on the other two. If I don't spend enough time doing my job, I can't afford to pay for what I need. If I spend too little time on schoolwork, I get shitty grades. If I spend too little time enjoying myself (anime, EE work, reading, etc), I get worn out. Part of being an adult is being able to weigh outcomes and use what limited resources you have (time and/or money) on what's important.

To be frank, I would consider myself extremely lucky if I got half as many presents and goodies as you do in a year.
Naturally paying bills comes first, otherwise you would be living out in streets surrounded by merchandise.
