Who was your favorite of the three ADV Dub Tojis?

With me, the undisputed king is Joe Pisano. He pulls off Toji's jockness with such flair that it's hard for me to find anyone who can top it. Michael O'Connor's Toji sounds like it's trying way too hard to copy Joe in every sense of the word. As for Brett Weaver, he just sounds like his generic Brett Weaver self when voicing Toji that it sounds like every other role he's played. Not much variety to it which isn't fun. How about the rest of you?

I'm talking about the three original ADV English dub Tojis. I really should've clarified it in my title, sorry about that.

What is a dub?
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

It is usually followed by the word "step," and classifies a certain genre of music, which generally speaking isn't handled by musicians experienced enough to explore the genre properly.

@ TOPIC: I honestly saw the English dub once, and couldn't tell the differences between them.

I'm serious. I had no idea there was more than one voice actor playing him. It's not like were talking Hyuga and Jive Turkey Hyuga here.

I only knew there were multiple English VAs for Toji because of the audio commentary.

I apologize if i came off as rude. Yeah, it's true. Joe Pisano played Toji from episodes 3-18, Michael O'Connor did it from episodes 19 to 20, and Brett Weaver voiced him in the last two episodes.

Justin Cook is better than them all. Though it would be neat to here someone with a southern accent or something to match his Kansai accent.

That's really interesting, I never knew this. I'll have to see if I can pick up on the differences next time I watch. Since Pisano did the bulk of it he's probably the voice I most associate with Toji.

Episodes 03 and 04 are the only NGE I actually had to watch dubbed to start with -- the guy in town we used to rent anime from ordered the wrong tape -- so I'll go with Mr. Pisano.

Same here. There have been more English Tojis than in-universe Reis.

I felt that the performances of all three ADV voice actors were actually pretty good, considering the few lines of dialogue they each had to work with. In particular, the "Don't you have any balls at all?!!" line from Episode 4 always manages to elicit a chuckle out of me.

IMO Justin Cook's Funimation-approved voice sounded wrong coming out of that character's mouth. It just wasn't deep enough for what I expected that character to sound like. Hey, sue me.

However, I must admit to a certain affectionate bias toward Brett Weaver, if for no other reason than his hilarious portrayal of Gai Daigoji from Martian Successor Nadesico, as well as Nabeshin from Excel Saga.

What I can't get over is that they had Brett Weaver voice extras for Rebuild but they couldn't be assed to have him do Toji again.
