So, yesterday I picked up an Evangelion figurine from around 1997. I'd like to know a bit about the story so I thought I'd post a bit about it in this thread as a way of asking if anybody knows what it is.

It's part of a series of nine, according to the back of the box, with EVA-01 being the first, the latter half 00 #2, 02 being #3, earlier 00 #4, 03 as #7, VR. TEMUIN, VR. VIPER, and VR. RAIDEN (from a different robot anime it looks like), as numbers 5, 6, and 8 respectively. The figure, number 9 in the series, is one of the mass produced EVA. The toy comes with the wings and blade used in End of Eva and it also has an Asuka card in the front. If it helps anyone I can get some pictures of the guy in the box and post them. I appreciate the help!

They're the SEGA Real Model... It has articulations in the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees I think... visionfactory has the angel Sachiel from that line and I have a Zeruel...

Well, those are practically pre-internet and tricky to find nowadays... Even info on them... Practically all the photos you see of them are of the Evas in the packages, and normally on sale given it's collectible status...

They are kinda sturdy (I've seen an Eva 00 in the hands of a boy, and man, does it take abuse!) but for so long in the package, maybe it's fragile now, who knows... You plan on opening it?

Yeah, probably as a desk toy. I got it for 10 bux at my LGS, and the box isn't in too good of shape anyway, but the plan is to just take the staples out and try and keep the rest in tact. There's some yellowing on the left arm, too. The LGS also had a Rei figure that had interchangeable parts so you could have her look bandaged and etc in her plugsuit, but I felt it was too ironic to buy. :V

The cool thing is that the figure is supposedly from Williams' own personal collection too, hehe.

I feel like I should have a bit more information on it if it's going to be a desk piece. Makes for a more interesting conversation if I know more about it. :)

hmmm im kinda on the fence with Unit 08b the wiile armour makes it kinda too fat to my eyes imo i like the Alpha version more since it looks more sleek and prettier

Evangelion Test Type-01 [Revoltech Yamaguchi]:

Such a solid sculpt. The body and torso look really good (which I don't think my pics convey very well). The only major let down here, as we all know with this figure, is the head.

That weird, weird horse-face.



I've come to the conclusion it is probably because of a lack of presence by the eyes, which are nothing more than little white slits (as you can see). Perhaps if they were more prominent, the effect wouldn't be so bad.

Again, like I mentioned with the Mark.06, I'm really surprised how much I've fallen for the metallic/glossy finish on the paint with these things. Something which I didn't like at all initially. Now I think it better compliments the more stylised take/design with these figures.

So yeah - Don't know why it took me so long to unbox, haha. Maybe I was just too smitten with old Mark.06 to care. Though watching more of Seele's YT reviews definitely got me more and more, umm, appreciative, I guess. Heh.
I don't know.


Okay, so now that I've got my pre-orders sorted as well, list of Revo Evas should ultimately end up looking something like...

Evangelion Mark.06
Evangelion Custom Type-08ß
Evangelion Mark.09

Evangelion 13 looks amazing but will be giving it a miss, as there will probably be too much aesthetic crossover/overflow between it, Eva-01 and the Mark.06. But let's see if I can start to resist the temptation once you guys start posting about yours though.

Well I think they are the most film accurate figures to date, that's why I like them a lot, but the bad thing is that they don't do much cause they have only a few articulations.

Also Yamato re-relased the real model Sega figures with metallic paint for units 00, 01 and 02.

Possibly old news, but there's a WAVE figure of Tentative Name Rei Ayanami up for pre-order. Release date is November.

The booster structures aren't actually perfect pyramids. They're slanted inwards and all the engines are aligned parallel to the longitudinal axis of the whole "craft"
