NiN - And all that could have been

Of Monsters and Men - King and Lionheart. This is the only soundtrack I need for EoE, seriously (though it also fits Rebuild, imo). Actually, I find that the whole album has Eva-reminiscent stuff.
SPOILER: Show
Taking over this town, they should worry,
But these problems aside I think I taught you well.
That we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run.
That we won't run, and we won't run, and we won't run.

And in the winter night sky ships are sailing,
Looking down on these bright blue city lights.
And they won't wait, and they won't wait, and they won't wait.
We're here to stay, we're here to stay, we're here to stay.

Howling ghosts they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
A lionheart.

His crown lit up the way as we moved slowly
Past the wondering eyes of the ones that were left behind.
Though far away, though far away, though far away
We're still the same, we're still the same, we're still the same.

Howling ghost they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
And in the sea that's painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you're the king and I'm a lionheart.

And as the world comes to an end
I'll be here to hold your hand
Cause you're my king and I'm your lionheart.
A lionheart.

Howling ghost they reappear
In mountains that are stacked with fear
But you're a king and I'm a lionheart.
And in the sea that's painted black,
Creatures lurk below the deck
But you're the king and I'm a lionheart.
A lionheart.

And now, for the most cliché Asuka theme, at least from ep 22 to EoE: Florence + the Machine - Shake it out

If I could change your mind -- The Alan Parsons Project
kind of reminds me of Komm, süsser Tod
"This is for the record. History is written by the victor. History is filled with liars. If he lives, and we die, his truth becomes written - and ours is lost..." -- Cpt. Price
"Damn the torpedoes" -- ADM Farragut
"I have not yet begun to fight!" -- Cpt. John Paul Jones
"Don't be alarmed, we're taking over the ship" -- Cpt. Jack Sparrow

Listening to A Thousand Suns again several months ago (short version: I've grown to like it more than I did last time I mentioned it in the Music Thread), I noticed a few of the songs were pretty dead-on for Eva.

Imagine post-EoE here (and character-wise, both Asuka and Shinji can apply):
Burning in the Skies  SPOILER: Show
I use the deadwood to make the fire rise
The blood of innocence burning in the skies
I filled my cup with the rising of the sea
And poured it out in an ocean of debris

I'm swimming in the smoke
Of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve
What I don't deserve

I held my breath as clouds began to form
But you were lost in the beating of the storm
But in the end we were meant to be apart
In separate chambers of the human heart

I'm swimming in the smoke
Of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve

It's in the blackened bones
Of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve
What I don't deserve

I'm swimming in the smoke
Of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve

The blame is mine alone
For bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve

What I don't deserve
What I don't deserve
What I don't deserve

Here's the dead wood to make the fire rise
The blood of innocence burning in the skies

One that's obviously for our favorite mope:
Robot Boy  SPOILER: Show
You say you're not gonna fight
'Cause no one would fight for you
And you think there's not enough love
And no one to give it to
And you're sure you've hurt for so long
You've got nothing left to lose
So you say you're not gonna fight
'Cause no one would fight for you

You say the weight of the world
Has kept you from letting go
And you think compassion's a fault
And you'll never let it show
And you're sure you hurt in a way
That no one will ever know
But someday the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go

Hold on, the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go
So hold on, the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go
So hold on, the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go
Just hold on, the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go

This one could cover any number of characters during EoE:
Waiting for the End  SPOILER: Show
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
Though the words sound steady something empty's within them
We say yeah with fists flying up in the air
Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there
Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear
Until we dead it, forget it, let it all disappear

Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
It's out of my control
Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It's hard to let you go

I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
All I want to do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got

Sitting in an empty room
Trying to forget the past
This was never meant to last
I wish it wasn't so

I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
All I want to do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got

What was left when that fire was gone
I thought it felt right but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
And trying to figure out what it's like moving on
And I don't even know what kind of things I said
My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead
So I'm picking up the pieces, now where to begin
The hardest part of ending is starting again

Again, take your pick of characters and it'll probably fit:
Iridescent  SPOILER: Show
You were standing in the wake of devastation
And you were waiting on the edge of the unknown
And with the cataclysm raining down
Insides crying "Save me now"
You were there, impossibly alone

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go, let it go

And in a burst of light that blinded every angel
As if the sky had blown the heavens into stars
You felt the gravity of tempered grace
Falling into empty space
No one there to catch you in their arms

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go, let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go, let it go

Let it go
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go, let it go

And finally, back to Shinji:
The Messenger  SPOILER: Show
When you feel you're alone
Cut off from this cruel world
Your instincts telling you to run

Listen to your heart
Those angel voices
They'll sing to you
They'll be your guide
Back home

When life leaves us blind
Love keeps us kind
It keeps us kind

When you suffered enough
And your spirit is breaking
You're growing desperate from the fight

Remember your love
And you always will be
This melody will bring you right
Back home

When life leaves us blind
Love keeps us kind
When life leaves us blind
Love keeps us kind

The lyrics and song title remind me of Kaworu in Episode 24 and 3.0..

After watching this AMV then this song will remind me of Eva.

Not sure if it counts, but the Shadow Temple theme from Ocarina of Time gives off a very Evangelion feel if you ask me.

Reminds of Evangelion, in fact a lot of the times when I'm listening to classic rock I picture Evangelion fight scenes in my head.

ooh my posts from my duplicate thread got moved here, let's replace them with songs

Here's another song, then.
Six Trillion Years and Overnight Story (MafuMafu cover) by Kemu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBuA6WPBTZk
Parts of this just really fit to me, like
SPOILER: Show
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know anything of the kindness after a scolding, or the warmth of a hand after the rain. But really, truly, honestly, I feel very cold.
I can't die, why won't I die?
I can't even see one single dream.

This one has the bonus of MafuMafu's voice sounding (to me at least) like a convincing Shinji.

Two Examples I can I think of right now
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

Another contribution to make up for my fail

Breath of Life by Florence + the Machine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0EVEXX9kpk

I don't care that it was tacked on to that crappy Snow White movie...
Definitely a Shinji song, lots of association with Kaworu as well
SPOILER: Show
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I was looking for a breath of life
A little touch of heavenly light
But all the choirs in my head sang,
No oh oh

To get a dream of life again
A little vision of the start at the end
But all the choirs in my head sang,
No oh oh

But I needed one more touch
Another taste of heavenly rush
And I believe, I believe it
So oh oh oh

And I needed one more touch
Another taste of divine rush
And I believe, I believe it
So oh oh oh

Whose side am I on?
Whose side am I?
Whose side am I on?
Whose side am I?

And the fever began to spread
From my heart down to my legs
But the room is so quiet,
Oh oh oh

And although I wasn't losing my mind
It was a chorus so sublime
But the room was too quiet,
Oh oh oh

I was looking for a breath of life
A little touch of heavenly light
But all the choirs in my head sang,
No oh oh

To get a dream of life again
A little vision of the start at the end
But all the choirs in my head sang,
No oh oh

[Instrumental]
It's a long way and it's come to claim her
And I always say,
We should be together
I can see the look,
Because this song has began it
And if you are gone,
I will not be long (Be long, be long, be long)

And I started to hear it again
But this time it wasn't the end
And the room is so quiet,
Oh oh oh

And my heart is a hollow plane
For the devil to dance again
But the room is too quiet
Oh oh oh

I was looking for the breath of a life
A little touch of a heavenly life
But all the choirs in my head sang
No, oh oh

There are a lot, really.

Halo by Depeche Mode

Poor Shinji. That is all.
SPOILER: Show
You wear guilt
Like shackles on your feet
Like a halo in reverse

I can feel
The discomfort in your seat
But in your head, it's worse

If Only Tonight We Could Sleep by The Cure
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgHalgiywmo
Really haunting, which is part of it, but the verse under the spoiler gives me a startlingly clear mental image every time I hear it.
SPOILER: Show
And an angel will come
With burning eyes like stars
And bury us deep
In his velvet heart

Linkin Park-Incandescent

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpt7RJUGpdE

The song seems like a good song for an Impact. Lines such as "You were standing in the wake of devastation" and "With the cataclysm raining down" reminds me of Second Impact and Third Impact and the destruction they caused. The phrases "in a burst of light that blinded every angel" "as if the sky had blown the heavens into stars" remind me of the general awe and spectacle produced by the Impact, as well as the fact that the Impacts are linked heavily with the Angels, and every Angel must be destroyed to start SEELE's desired Third Impact.

The chorus can also be linked to the character of Shinji himself, as he feels "cold and lost" towards the end of the series and often is forced to confront sadness despite building up hope (the loss of Kaworu, for example). In the end of EoTV and EoE, Shinji seems to "let go" of his problems and seems to become happier, as well. It could also be associated with how Shinji bids farewell to Yui at the end of EoE. In the context of Impacts, "Let it go" could also be linked to how humans are urged to let go of their physical bodies and return to LCL to participate in Instrumentality, and also lose their pain and sadness during Instrumentality because they are a single entity instead of separate beings.

If the song was slower and had a "Komm Susser Tod" kind of feel, it would be great music for Third Impact :D .

View Original PostReplicator wrote:"Man That You Fear" by Marilyn Manson reminds me a lot of the Instrumentality sequence from Episode 26'. The lines "The world in my hands, there's no one left to hear you scream. There's no one left for you" makes me think about the part where Shinji decides to reject Instrumentality, and the final quote "When all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed" matches so well with the premise of EoE, that I swear it could have been a theme song for the movie.

Seconded to hell and back.

Also: Don't Fear the Reaper by the Blue Oyster Cult. The third verse of the song especially, when it comes to Shinji's mental state before and during Third Impact.

And of course Classical music.

At this point, basically any piece of classical music makes me think of Eva now. Obviously ones used in the series/EoE a lot MORE so, but it's like the entire genre has that association by default.

This song, Drowning in a Wave of Grief though...wow, does it ever remind me. The link is to the YouTube version which isn't subbed cause I don't think everyone here has a NicoVideo account, but if you DO have one you can watch it with subs on there.
The video itself has a beautiful, eerie aesthetic and I think the lyrics are very fitting, it seems a good Shinji song to me.

Counting Crows's When i Dream of Michelangelo strongly reminds me of Shinji and NGE as a whole. "You know i don't like you, but you wanna be my friend" is totally something i can picture him thinking.

This song always reminded me of Kaji due to the lyrics. Also reminiscent of NGE is this song by the same group.
"Every line is a joy" -Kaworu Nagisa.

"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." - Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Oh and I almost forgot the very best LAS song.

A song that reminds me of Shinji in particular is 'No Sunlight' by Death Cab for Cutie; a song about the death of childish optimism. Of course, this hit Shinji at a much more immediate time, but I believe it still resonates.

Lyrics:
SPOILER: Show
When I was young, lying in the grass
I felt so safe in a warming bath
Of sunlight
Of sunlight

Fast open sky could do no harm
Like an embrace of a mothers arms
In sunlight [4x]

With every year that came to pass
More clouds appear until the sky went black
And now there's
No sunlight,
No sunlight.
And now there's
No sunlight,
No sunlight anymore.

You dissapeared with the same speed
The idealistic things i believed
The optimist died inside of me
No sunlight [4x]

You dissapeared with the same speed
The idealistic thing i believed
The optimist died inside of me
No sunlight [7x]
No sunlight anymore.
