SOME thought must have gone into this... why did they choose those colors and what could they mean?

Isn't the color white in Japan linked to death?

The colour ao (青) is a confusing one, since not only are blue skies said to be aozora (青空), but green traffic lights are also ao.

According to Gendai Kokugo Reikai Jiten published by Shogakukan, ao is the Japanese name for the printing ink colour "cyan", and it is used for both green and for sky blue and sea blue.

The Koujien dictionary's entry also says that ao is the name of sky blue, sea blue and green. It also explains that according to one historical explanation, in ancient Japan the only colours were aka, shiro, kuro and ao. This dictionary also notes that historically aoi meant a medatanu iro, a "dull colour", and was used even for grey. It now covers colours as far apart as ai, a dark blue, midori, green, and sou, the colour of grass.

Because everything has a deep, symbolic meaning over there.

/Generalization

Maybe Anno just chose them cause they looked colorful? I mean, the colors alone are enough to "pop out" at you in stores in the DVD/BD sections.
Please just call me Ian, "TheFrisky" is more of a title.

It's me, or every new cover have the lines of the words thicker than the precedent?

It's not just you, but I'm not sure what sort of significance it implies. As to the color white, it does indeed symbolize death. So does the number 4, or 四. The number four is pronounced "Shi", which is similar to the character for death, which is 死, or "Si". Also, FINAL is going to be the fourth movie. As far as I can tell, there's a helluva lot of symbolism surrounding this.

Fun fact: The Chinese also have an aversion to the number four for the exact same reasons. Did you know that death rates spike in both countries on April 4th?

Oh yes he can. We'll know when FINAL premieres in Japan simply because of the frightened screams of emotional release and serenity that is usually thought to accompany a real life Third Impact.

Bad end seems too obvious now.

Hope we get a good one.

Are we 100% certain Final's color is white? That could just be a placeholder color, lots of sites have white as backgrounds. But they could be going with white, of course.

Anywho, considering all the rainbows in New Movie Edition, having the color spectrum sort of going on for the 4 films makes sense to me.

I propose FINAL's color scheme be Lime Green. I then suggest that the movie have no connection with green at all, just to confuse the fans and have the over speculate for the next ten years so I have something to make fun of.

HEY! Still need to watch that series!!

---

I can only guess, why they've chosen red as colour for the first movie, but I think the second is orange because it fits with the theme of "advancement", and cyan, because it already implies the contrast the movie actually is to he first two.
So maybe the fourth film will be those three colours mixed together, as the final part should connect the jo and ha with the kyu.
(What do we get if we mix red, orange and cyan? I don't know).

But I also like the 4=death=white theory. We'll see.

All of the backgrounds for the PREVIEW screens have been white. I could also be that the placeholder page for the FINAL movie on the official website is simply keeping in spirit of the PREVIEW screens.

Yep, we really shouldn't take the white as an indication, as the Q link was black before they revealed the English title.

Surely if they're calling it "FINAL" rather than "4.0", they would be trying to avert the east Asian fear of the number "4"?

Ah, who am I kidding. FINAL looks like it could be another EoE.

Nothing could possibly contain as much mindfuckery as EoE did. It would be an impossibility. Oh god, I hope it's so much worse. It needs to give us actual orgasms when we're watching it from the awesomeness and fuckery; that's how fucked up it needs to be. I will not stand for anything less than people creaming their pants when they see FINAL.
