I apologize for the lack of updates, and regret to inform you that I don't have any awesome updates for you guys... yet.
I do have two things to announce though: The first thing is that I've canned the idea of making this game isometric. Making all those isometric sprites for everything would add a lot of time to the development, and IMHO is not worth it. So it's back to traditional top-down perspective.
The second thing is that I'm changing the name of the game from Pokemon Purple to Pokemon Bakelite version.
Also, a third thing I guess... I'm also going to be developing two other Pokemon games alongside Bakelite version, Kunzite and Hiddenite versions, which won't be Evangelion crossovers... they'll just be straight-up Pokemon games, taking place in Johto. But I'm gonna be going for a more serious and realistic style, so you can kind of think of these games as being extremely heavy re-imaginings of Gold and Silver.
You won't be able to trade your Evangelimon from Bakelite to Kunzite and Hiddenite, but they will be Mystery Gift compatible with one another.

My apologies for not keeping you guys updated.
Sadly, this project was put on indefinite hold when I lost the majority of my work thanks to a hard drive failure. That was a few months ago. I've since decided to begin work on one of my own original game ideas. But recently I've felt the desire to resume work on this game, so I probably will once I finish the first chapter of my other project.
I'm not going to make any promises of when to expect something playable. Military obligations are going to frequently prevent me from working on this project as much as I'd like to. But if I had to give a guesstimate of when I might be able to release a playable demo... I'd say November or December. I'll probably have the meat of the game systems programmed before then, but I'll be deployed and won't be able to release a demo until I get back.

Please, please, PLEASE bring this back from the dead. This is the most epic idea for a video game I've seen in ages.
If you do not make this happen, Kozoman will come after you with his meat tenderizer.
Seriously though. This is epic, and I hope you can get it done some day.
Best of luck!

I've finally gotten out of my slump with regard to this project, and plan to resume it as soon as possible. Unfortunately, "as soon as possible" will probably be mid-October/early November, though I'll do my best to try and find as much time before then to begin work on this.
I want to have a demo of the battle system out by Christmas, with the full game to follow sometime around the middle of 2014.
In the meantime, here's some hand-drawn mockups of a couple screens. Unfortunately I had to censor most of the good bits... I can't put all my cards on the table just yet. Rest assured though, I've got something pretty good up my sleeves. ;)

Please tell me that in some cases, if you can't run from a battle the notification will say "I mustn't run away!"
