I saw it only once yesterday. I think the thing about the whole body being a core, is you can't kill them, unless you destroy the whole thing (gotta confirm on second viewing). They look like Evas, nothing special about them, but the whole body is a source of energy maybe? Mark 09 lives even though the head is being blown off by Mari. Also, the first time we see it, the jetpack is not in it's aggregate form, but just small extensions which flutter (?expression) in the wind, like a scarf or like Zeruel's "paper" arms (this is what we see in the theater program, these 3 extensions). Maybe the Jetpack is part of Mark 9 and not some kind of attachment, e.g. it can shapeshift etc.

I wanna write a short summary of the visuals (we got the translation, so there's no more need for text I guess), but I'm not sure where to post. The forum has gotten a bit messy, and I don't have the time now to go through each and every thread. Can one of the mods tell me where to place it?

Yeah, the dialogue has been more or less translated, but pending camera rips or whatever, we can still take everything we can get regarding the visual component. This thread should do. Thanks!

The same way it happened in the original anime. When he stopped inhabiting Adam's physical body, he lost the right to consider himself the 1st Angel, properly, since souls don't really HAVE an angelic designation.

"Adam" isn't yet confirmed for NME, Aura. Yes, they imply that Kaworu was something before he was Kaworu, but until this whole "Adams" mess is sorted out we can't be certain precisely what the First Angel is.

Mana, the word that Kaworu himself uses is about as vague as can be: he was literally "demoted", or perhaps we could say "cast down", from the 1st, to the 13th. The details here are quite obscure at the moment, since the dialogue is the only thing that can be readily checked. According to Mari, the 12th Angel was supposed to be the last. Kaworu intimates that his 'casting down' was engineered by Gendo... somehow. I guess it was important to his plans for some reason that we probably can't hope to penetrate any time soon.

@ Aura: I don't remember him ceasing to be the first angel even after the soul of Adam was placed in his body in the original anime. I was under the assumption that he has been both the first and last angel at the same time because of his soul and body. But I guess maybe in NME souls really don't matter enough to have designations?

They use the phrase "Adams" (plural) persistently. Mark.09 is referred to as an "Adams' vessel", Eva-13 a "survivor of the Adams".

Let me get this straight, Third impact actually happened on 3.0? As per the illustration, it is telling me that it did happen.

The climax of 2.0 actually counts as Third Impact. Apparently, even though it was stopped from completion, it did cause a massive catastrophe.

Posting this after the discovery that the giant flying battleship AAA Wunder was shaped like a spermatozoon... all the red Eva-01 bodies heading towards Lilith are trying to be the ones to "fertilize" her and create a new form of life post-Impact.

It also leads me to think that Lilith's black moon is literally meant to be an egg this time around. I don't know if any parts of the egg cell wall are meant to disconnect when the egg needs to fertilize or something (during an Impact), but I guess there's a whole lot of biology being tossed in now.

So, in RoE 2.22, Third Impact did happen but was halfway halted by that lance, dunno what the name is, which was thrown by Kaouru. So basically, it kinda happen but not really much. Haha!

Going to RoE 3.0, Fourth Impact happen? My basis would be the illustration that was provided on the first page, with the red earth and all. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Fourth impact is started in the climax of 3.0 but Kaworu uses his Jesus powers to stop it from completing. The full effects of 4I we won't know until 4.0

Probably just speculating but it was interesting to see that someone thought the tower like thing to be the bottom of the Nerv pyramid. I think we can stop pretending that Anno meant for the visual to convey world-scale devastation at the time 2.22 was finished.

The Q script was probably rewritten again and again, just like the 2.22 one, and they simply hadn't thought of the timeskip thing yet.
You could argue that some of the things if the preview DID in some form make it/were implied in the backstory, but it's not comparable to the 2.0 trailer where while the visuals weren't the same, the events took place as described, on-screen. Asuka's arrival, EVA 04 blowing up, EVA 03 arriving, Kaworu descending from the moon...

Was it world-scale? As far as I can tell, in Q we only know that Tokyo-3 itself was destroyed.

IIRC there's a long circular shaft in 3.0 where Zeruel broke through and remains of the pyramid are still there at the bottom. The ground over the Geofront is cracked up in a cross shape, but not gone. I'm only asking myself then, why the moon can be seen in the Geofront during the last few seconds of 2.0...? Weird.

Who knows what the podest is. It looked Egyptian/Mayan (sand colored bricks if I'm correct). Definitely not like modern architecture, and even less so like a part of the Pyramid (exterior). The shaft under the half-pyramid is thin, so when awakened Eva-13 is rising, he's easily pulverizing it on the way to the podest. It's never as huge as the structure next to the stairs, Kaworu and Shinji climb down to see the After-3rd Impact world.

Well, Kaworu says something like "Mass extinctions aren't unusual on this planet..." when explaining the situation to Shinji.
