Don't know what to make of that -- I wonder what's animating the version running around with Gendo, then. I also gotta wonder about Gendo's and Fuyu's mindset . . . I mean, were they just gonna sit around forever until someone got around to bringing Shinji back?

Current rating is 3.14, compared to 4.02 for 1.0 and 4.48 for 2.0.

It may be loosing repeat viewership because the movies depressing. Sure Shinji nearly ended the world, but damn it he was awesome, and save Rei. People wanted to see that again. This probably is less appealing. How it works in the Long run probably depends on how 4.0 ends. I've heard that orginally people hated the end of Empire Strikes Back, due to it having that downer ending. Now it's considered one of the best ever. But that's only because of how Return Of The Jedi was able to follow it.

You have to remember there are more than one kind of Eva fan. There's the die hard fans. The guys who analyze everything. The like the Psychological stuff, the Symbolism, the Darkness. They post on forums like this. Then you've got the more casual fans. They watch Eva, they like the Charecters, and the plot, but damn it they wish they'd explain just what the fuck an angel is and where it came from. And that maybe Shinji could win and get a happy ending. And I suspect those make up more of the moviegoing public. And Anno trolled them way harder than he did the other kind of fan.

I'm going to have to start a thread with my analysis of Shinji's actions. Too long for this.

I can honestly see 4.0 bieng this. Shinji snaps totally. He now wants to cause fifth impact. Because people are so aweful they all deserve to die. And he deserves to die the most. In the end Ghost Kawrou, Rei(maybe ghost), and Asuka barely talk him down. So Shinji manages to restore the world, but still kills himself because he honestly believes that it would be best. Asuka tries to stop him by confessing her love, but Shinji just tells her that it's better if she just forgets him. Suicide rate in Japan skyrockets.

No, the collar was not a hoax as far as I can tell.

When Black!Rei shows up in Eva 09 and Shinji leaves with her, Misato is shown holding the switch as if about to press the button, but she hesitates for too long and then he is out of range (as shown on the display of the switch itself).

Suzuhara Sakura yells at Shinji something like, "Do as you please but, DO NOT PILOT AN EVA!"

Note that at this point Shinji does have some reasons to doubt Misato and the others (i.e. they told him Ayanami was no more and nowhere to be found, but then he hears her voice coming from the Eva... he also appears surprised that Misato & Co. want to fight against Eva 09, and they suddenly tell him that they are now a different group devoted to fighting NERV....)

Less than 24 hours from the first post, and already THIRTY EIGHT pages?!?! This forum is not called Evageeks for nothing I guess :-) Anyway, the leak from 2ch and those pamphlet scan are now all up in the major anime sites in Japan, particularly the matome sites (e.g. http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-12958.html ) so anyone can be spoiled as much as he wants (yeah, I've got my share). My feeling perhaps goes to show how far I:ve come since EoE days - I bumped into the spoiler instead eagerly waiting for or seeking it; I do not feel devastated by what happened to Asuka and even somehow thought at least most of the characters lived beyond the age of their death at EoE. As for Misato gathered the force to fight again -- somehow it has an Anima vibe.... To be honest, those older character design give me a feeling more akin to Ghost in the Shell than Evangelion, I don't know why.....

Anyway guess I just might as well check the first 6 min of Q given what I know already...

And are they seriously that the last film will just be tagged with a Coda symbol? How are we going to pronounce it?

I'm just glad that the initial rumor of Asuka being an angel was debunked. I'm OK (to varying extents) with almost all the other weirdness, but that would've been a deal-killer.

Still, from my perspective it feels like reading early accounts of paleontologists trying to decipher the "missing link" using a single molar and an associated femur that may or may not be from the same creature. Of course, we have to make the most of the limited information we can get at this point...

Anyhow, I think I've gotten my spoiler-itis out of my system, and can wait until a camrip hits. Worst-case scenario, I'll wait the 9-12 months before the Japanese 3.33 DVD is released. Either way, it seems that I'll stay on the Rebuild train until the bitter end.

Any sightings of Kaji? Any references to him even?
Are there any scenes where Asuka and Mari are face to face?
How important are the new characters? The only we've seen doing anything is Toji's sister.
Whats with the lifejacket on Unit 2?
Does Misato lose an eye or is it just her glasses breaking?
Do we see whats under Asuka's Patch of Power and/or is whats happened to it explained?

BTW, im been having great fun at the moment posting on the youtube vids of the trailers going 'you wont believe the shit thats going down in this film', then having people PM me with questions, then answering them and watching their minds unravel.

Welcome back, Lili! If you have a moment, here are some questions from me:

- What's going on with Eva-01, -06, and -13? We've heard that Eva-13 is someone made by combining the first two, but it doesn't make narrative sense from the spoilers we've seen so far.

- Can you tell us anything about these severed Rei heads? And there's supposed to be a huge one that Gendo is talking to at one point?

- Is there an Angel attack that occurs at sea? If so, could you elaborate, from what you recall?

- Are there actually Eva corpses at the site of Third Impact?

- What's going on with Lilith? One of the poorly-translated spoilers said that she was decapitated and rotting. And any thoughts on the scene in Dogma, with the giant skulls and the giant red cross? We only have some screenshots to go by, so it's pretty "WTF?".

- What's the "Mode 777" that Eva-02 enters toward the end? And is Eva-02 still intact by the end of the film?

- Do you recall any of the images from the 4.0 preview?

Sorry if that's a lot, but... so many questions!

The two, Shinji and Kaworu, solved the problem by killing Asuka by their joint effort (the final killing stroke by Kaworu)

Apparently this didn't happen, they trolled you, pictures from that book show a perfectly alive Asuka that recovers Shinji from the entry plug after 4th Impact, there's also an illustration which apparently shows Shinji and Asuka hand in hand...
Shinji, Kaworu and Rei apparently fought against Asuka and Mari but they didn't kill each other, or so I heard.

IIRC, first he does impale the Eva 13 to close the Door (Shinji also seems to feel this), but then he does die by going 'splodey. All the red goo/blood gets splattered against the invisible barrier between him and Shinji... which Shinji is attached to. Ouch.
Oh, IIRC, before he dies he does tell Shinji, "We can meet again".

Kaji: I have not seen him. Maybe I was too overwhelmed by everything happening on screen, but I honestly can't remember him being there at any point!

Touji: his demise, although not certain, seems heavily implied. Shinji is given a shirt. He notices the shirt is a bit too large for him, and then Touji's name inside. He kinda freaks out a bit. Kaworu notices he is upset. Shinji explains he is wondering what happened to the city/his classmates that were supposed to be standing above what is now a gaping hole. Kaworu takes him outside and shows him the consequences of the 3I Shinji initiated.

3.0 Preview: I honestly could find very little, if any, relation between the actual movie and the preview included in 2.0...

4.o Preview: The only thing I remember about the preview for the next movie is a terrible, terrible half pink/half red Eva.... Maybe I hallucinated it.... *sporks eyes*

I am sorry if I cannot answer all the questions at this time, I do have a lot of studying to do and there is a lot about the movie itself that I need to triple check... I will try to keep your questions in mind for the next time(s) I go see it though.

:EDIT: On a related(?) note, IIRC Asuka detonated Eva 02. I think later on they show what might pass as the sorry remains of this unit being carried away.

Asuka herself is alive and kicking at the end of the movie. She pulls Shinji out of the entry plug and gives him the "Misato Treatment", trying (in vain) to shake him out of his shocked state. Black!Rei is also with them. IIRC, Asuka says something like, "We gotta go to a place where the Lilin can reach us". The SDAT falls at Rei's feet, she looks down, but we don't get to see whether she picks it up. Off they go leaving a trail in the sand, Asuka literally pulling Shinji by the hand/arm, Rei following.
